+Anoop Kumar Exactly my thoughts! She put up more of a stink about it than the ballboy did! She couldn't give two shits about if the ballboy was ok. She wanted an easy win and that's pathetic.
I don't think Broady really cared about the ball boy... looks to me like she was trying to profit off a mistake made by Ostapenko and win a match against a better player using tricks.
Completely wrong. She wanted the right call to be made. The shock it wasn't, caused her to lose control and forget she isn't the judge. It was all emotions. Not tactics.
Tayden I bet she was spoiled as a child. Did you see her rubbing it in her face at the end of the match. Poor sportsmanlike conduct by both of them. Millennials...
The game has rules. She is within her right to seek a penalty if she thinks there was a violation. A pro should not be reduced to okay I guess I am cool with it. The umpire should be held to enforcing the rules.
Doesn't matter if the racket throw was intentional or not, Brody does not care about what happens. She was emotional and just wanted anything she can get to win the match. Ostapenko gave her the two points she needed so she can celebrate a very rare win.
@@jamesc8709 rules are rules simple as she should have been disqualified otherwise you open the gate for every player to claim it was an accident when they throw their racket or hit the ball in aggression in someones direction
@@arung7205 nick is far far super talented than her ...do charity works and have a tennis foundation...its just his mental temper things those leads him to shitty path.
D. R. It really has been a long time but, the attitude is very important. Your opponent has made a mistake but that reaction is disgraceful. That is what I wanted to point out . And also where you end up with the wrong competitiveness...
It amuses me how many people are ranting that "she doesn't care about the ball boy." Where does she claim she cares about the ball boy?? There are rules about throwing your racket, smashing your racket, arguing with officials etc that ALL players are subject too. She's arguing that ostapenko has committed a racket infringement, that is really serious, because it ended up hitting a ball boy. Do I think she should have argued about it so much and got distracted and emotional about it? No, she shouldn't have. But all this straw man bullshit that she's supposedly "pretending to care" about the ball boy is nonsense.
I genuinely thought Broady was concerned about the ballboy. Turns out she just wanted her opponent disqualified. Both were incredibly unprofessional in my opinion. You should never throw a racket as it is potentially dangerous and she was no where near the ball in fairness. Broady accused her of deliberately throwing the racket at the ball boy but didn't have the decency to see if he was okay. Poor from both players.
@@Graziano45 she gave absolutely no concern to the ballboy who was hit with a racket. Her instincts were to try and win a tennis match instead of checking on the well being of a child. Very unprofessional in my opinion
@@philtaylor5592 Saidi is correct. Throwing the racket and hitting someone is enough for being disqualified. Broady, although she didnt give a toss about the boy, its not her concern. She was right to call this out.
Cheers for generalising mate, no true sportsman would want to win because of this but of course since she’s British she wants to because she’s greedy. What a tosser
She threw her racket at the ballboy so there's no denying that she should of been DQ. She didn't mean to hurt him but it's gross disrespect. That ballboy is just doing a job. He isn't being paid to be disrespected like that. That said, Broady made herself look bad by making such a big deal out of it. She should of left the decision to those responsible for making these decisions.
The racket did not hit the ballboy, was cetainly close but the images show that It does not reach him. So it was very unfair and triky try to get a disqualification of her opponenent, like she did
@@doct0rnic I am saying that although Brody was the one moaning, Ostepenko is ALWAYS complaining and bending rules and shouting at umpires and taking unnecessary medical breaks to slow the action so the shoe was on the other foot.
What about actually going up to the ballboy and making sure he's okay and sincerely apologizing rather than doing that half-hearted hand gesture thing that tennis players love to do.
+Mick Rumping And if it were not for Broady, nothing would have happened to Ostapenko, meaning the rule that the tennis federation put in place meant NOTHING. When you see something wrong, you speak up!! That's how change is made and how progress is made. You DON'T look the other way...!
No one ignored rules. Ostapenko was penalized. This issue here is Broady's ugly, self-serving, self-righteous and dishonourable behaviour. Broady is disgraceful here. No class whatsoever.
Wow, taking the low road so openly public & blatant w/o one bit of shame or embarrassment says so much about the true character of this immature little girl child. From how she was raised to what she thinks of others, this says A LoT ! - If she genuinely cared about the ball boy then she would have went & checked on the boy at least when the match was over but nope. It was all about her her her. *break an ankle B.*
how is it taking the low road? YOU'RE taking the low road by hoping she breaks her ankle. Grow up, little guy. This is professional sports, not mommy's backyard hand-holding session, feelings-circle, lets talk about our "trauma" and try to make everyone else pity us day on the swing set. Do you have any idea how much money is at stake here? Nobody gives a flying fuck about the ballboy. He was fine. Stop acting like he was mortally wounded.
Did you see what happened to Djokovic? He unintentionally kicked a ball and accidentally hit the lines woman, gets defaulted. It didn't slip her hand, she threw it out of frustration. Accidentally hits a ball boy. She should have been defaulted.
Yeah yeah look what happened with djokovici and he just hit a ball slowly that accidentaly hit the line refere... ostapenko is realy stupid if that raket hit the ballboy in the eye he can remain blind...
@@weston9106 The rule is that if you throw a racket and it strikes someone, you are disqualified regardless of intent. The umpire erred by not enforcing that rule.
I think she should have been disqualified, rackets are heavy and can seriously hurt a person. Professionalism at all times on the courts. Many players are getting away with way too much. Keep the integrity of the game and carry yourselves as mature adults.
Why the fuck does Broady care what the fuck happens, what a poor excuse of a human being. She is just trying to jump on any opportunity she gets... She nearly started crying as well ;D
I remember a men's match. The player threw his racquet at a CURTAIN. It hit about 5-6 feet from a line umpire. It continued and hit her at like 2 mph. She folded like a deck chair and insisted on medical help. She was in her 60s and should have been in a rest home.
Broady did poor at Wimbledon. Out in first round of qualifiers. Out in first round of doubles. Out in first round of mixed. Goes out first round of most things she enters to be honest
It doesn't matter. Rules don't only apply for the top players. All those non top players are still fighting for rank and in turn sponsorship and media coverage. The other player threw - or released - her racket and it struck a ballboy in the shoulder. There should have been a penalty for that and not just a warning. Both of them look like Karens to me but Broady was right. They official went too easy on her. Other players in tennis did the exact same and were DQ'd, but she didn't even lose a point.
@@jcasetnl only question is who gives a fuck?! I just watched Sinner v Kyrgios in Miami, Sinner just went on with his business while Kyrgios went bat shit crazy. That’s a true champion right there, not someone who whines about how their opponent didn’t get disqualified. And from her record, it seems pretty obvious she did that to get a easy win
This is similar to when Djokovic hit a ball and accidentally struck a linesperson. I felt like both that and this situation were about the same level of accidental, yet Djokovic was disqualified *from the entire tournament*. I'd say Ostapenko got off easy here.
Exactly, people posting here have never played tennis before or know the rules. Intent doesnt matter, if you hit anyone with anything on a court you get the DQ, the end. Broady handled it poorly but she was right. If umpires let this shit slide anyone is free to hit an umpire or a ball kid and just say "woops, accident".
Damn who are these bags giving women in tennis a bad rep? When Djok hit the line judge on accident, he immediately checked on them, apologized, respectfully listened to the official, and walked off.
And Nole got disqualified but she didn't?? Where's the logic. She literally threw a whole RACKET on a ball boy and did not even care or ask if they were okay. While Nole hit one with a ball by accident and checked on them and everything, but still got disqualified 😐
@@grantmalone probably cause of the lack of sportsmanship? Could have been a lot worse and that woman that got hit ended up fine... What logic are you struggling with?
@@grantmalone What do you mean lol? Umpires literally give point penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct(i.e smashing racquets) all the time? Which, in reality, harms no one but the players' pockets. The racket was thrown on purpose, but not aimed at ball boy on purpose. A penalty was certainly in order for throwing racket, but entirely up to umpire. Brody's behavior after was a disgrace.
@@dorian763 I stand corrected, she intended to throw the racket at the ground once she saw she couldn't reach that ball, but changed her mind and tried to stop herself in the very last millisecond, which caused her to lose the grip and even miss the ground. Djokovic was DQ'd for hitting a ball. Anyone in the men's would be DQ'd for throwing their racket like this and they know it. Anyone who says the women are treated unfairly need to watch this.
Not defending Ostapenko but Broady's behaviour here is probably the most pathetic thing I've ever seen on a tennis court. And I've watched probably around a thousand games by this point.
***** As I said, I was referring to the behaviour of players, and not to some knife stabbing maniac. "Pathetic" is not the first thing that comes to mind when I think about the Seles incident either btw, "terrifying" is more suitable. Now go troll elsewhere, I'm done feeding you.
Well, I wouldn't say most pathetic seen I've seen on a tennis court, but certainly on that court. The way she BEGGED for help with the match by attempting to manipulate the situation should have gotten HER a misconduct penalty.
@@sailorman8668 it means that, just as if she hit the ball blindly in frustration and the ball went into the stands and hit someone. That's what u call an ACCIDENT.
@@1deonlucas9 If a player hits a ball into the stands full of people, why would it be surprising that a spectator would bet hit? The same with a thrown racket. In fact, we shouldn't be surprised at all, as someone WAS hit by the thrown racket. It's almost as if you don't think the player should have received any censure/penalty at all, for their reckless actions?
@@sailorman8668 I see your point. It's just that it seems obvious that it's not intentional. It's all about intent. The player hits a ball blindly out of frustration. You think the player is thinking "let me hit someone"? My point is that it was an accidental incident and not a big deal.
@@1deonlucas9 Indeed, the racket wasn't specifically thrown at the ballboy, but nevertheless, the racket was deliberately thrown, which should incur a default point for racket abuse, at the least. The reaction of the other player was ridiculous. Anybody would think that she was the one who was hit by the racket, lol.
It's disgusting how she tried to squeeze something out of this that would be advantageous to her in some way. Those fake tears were not for the ball boy - she couldn't care less about the boy. Instead, she was angry she didn't get her opponent punished. Absolutely horrible behavior.

Broady was looking for an easy way out. I never in my life saw something like this. When I first saw the video, Broady was soooo upset and protesting left and right to the umpire, I thought it was SHE who was accused of throwing her racket at the ball boy. When I realized she was petitioning the ump to DQ her opponent, I thought...."wow, shameless."
Exactly. What a f***ing selfish drama queen. It was none of her business and obviously not her call. Not to mention that it was clear that however the boy was hit, there was clearly no significant injury. Ostapenko got a code violation which was entirely appropriate. Ridiculous and pathetic for an opponent to argue for a DQ. If you wanna make those calls, then become a chair ump.
Not an easy way out. But fairness. It could have been her and she could have been penalised heavily. Of course we wouldn’t know if that will be the case, that’s why she wants fairness.
+Rajeev Shrivastava exactly, but the way the media span the story was that she had somehow clearly targeted the ball-boy which it's obvious from the footage she did not.
+croydonrudeness I agree she did not target the ball boy - but that was a very hard throw and she did it in a fit of anger and frustration. It showed reckless disregard for other people in the area. She's lucky that racquet did not hit the ball boy or worse yet fly over the wall and clobber a spectator. If that had happened I believe she would have been disqualified and justly sanctioned by the ITF
The throw was intentional out of frustration, but the hit was accidental. She wasn't even looking at the ballboy so there was no intent to hit him, she just miscalculated where the racket landed. On the otherhand, Broady should be penalized for unsportmanslike conduct, she wasn't concerned about the ballboy at all, she just wanted her opponent to get disqualified for an easy win. How lame.
@@CDogBeast1992 and we all knew novak’s was really accidental and still he got DQed. Ostapenko should have gotten DQed. So fitting cause DQ also means Drama Queen
To me Broady is the one to be negative here. Her try to convince the umpire Ostapenko intentionally hit the ball boy is pathetic, it's not her job to decide. She is so miserable.
I love that Broady was in no mood to just let Ostapenko's violence and mendacity go unchecked. The "smart" thing to do is to just keep focusing on only your side of the net, but Ostapenko is a classic tennis brat that thinks she should get away with assaulting a ball boy. I know she didn't mean to hurt him but she did mean to throw her racket and she should have been defaulted immediately. Shame on the chair umpire for his cowardice.
Broady is a typical opportunistic hypocrite. Nothing more. Umpire should be ashamed for not giving her a warning for pathetic attempt to force disqualification of her opponent.
It's weird to see Broady who didn't commit the violation -- and who's actually winning -- being so upset over this. True champions don't beg an umpire to disqualify their opponents. They want to fight and crush them.
Even as a viewer, I'd want to see this game forfeited. It would suck buying tickets to a canceled game. But there needs to be consequences for things like this.
@@roybaty7439 check the rules just because you are a top ranked player doesn't mean it's OK to randomly throw your racket around with any thought of the little people, yes the crying was over the top but I respect her sense of fair play. The umpires are there to apply the rules not show favoritism

rumor on the tour that year proclaimed that Broady put her top on backwards and found that it fit better.......... which was the reason for this strange outburst.
The annoying thing is none of the footage shows whether the ballboy was actually hit with the racquet or not? If he was hit its disqualification. If he wasn't hit its a caution.
Only in tennis does this racket / equipment abuse happen so often . However in cricket the bat abuse happens quite rarely which quite tells us how these tennis players kinda feel entitled that they think they can throw rackets n expect no one to get injured . Never should that kind of behaviour be allowed in any sport
