Today I am highlighting a few of the men that inspire me in the field of social work. You will hear from social work podcasters, influencers, entrepreneurs and more!
In part 1, the men will introduce themselves and their roles as well as what led them to become social workers. They will also share why men are well suited for the field and their BEST ADVICE to other males that hope to pursue social work.

Being a male in the field of social work, I feel that we can be stigmatized greatly. Especially since it is a primarily female-dominated role. I think the mindset is changing for the good. I am currently a case manager on a high level of care dual diagnostic team or the act team, and I love my team. It may burn me out by the end of the week, but if I see a client starting to improve it brings me a lot of joy and reminds me why I choose this field is to help other people. I will be getting my master's in counseling, and getting my license as an LPC. Everyone much success on their journey!

I agree with everything stated in this video. I think it is so important to have men in this field as it really challenges the narrative that men can’t show emotions or be compassionate and caring. People need healthy male interaction and support when necessary and our society is so socialized to not receive it.

Honestly this was a really great video to watch. I am Sophomore Social Work major and I honestly have only seen 2 or 3 other males in any of my classes and i got a little self conscious, especially when in 3/5th of my classes i was the only male in the room. Its really refreshing seeing other males in the Social Work field that are successful and hearing their stories.

I'm glad I bumped on this video bcos next month will be the start of my freshmen college in social work. At first i doubted to take this course bcos in our country social work students are mostly females and this made me think that i might be left out. The advices on this vid helped me a lot to really pursue this course! Wish me luck

I have never seen any commentaries on any platform in any format which effectively addresses the staggering lack of interest shown by men towards social work as a career compared to women. One of the speakers in this video suggested the possible benefits for service users of seeing themselves represented, in terms of their perception of identity, by their social worker. I would suggest men and boys are very poorly served by social work in this respect. What is underpinning such a fundamental lack of diversity in social work? Alternatively it is also legitimate to ask "does it actually matter that only 15% of social workers are men?"
