Prominent voices from across the Middle East joined in the annual commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, designated by the United Nations General Assembly to honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, and millions of other victims of Nazism. As we mourn the loss of innocent victims of war and terrorism, we pause to recall the Holocaust and its universal lessons such as the vital importance of combating antisemitism, hate and intolerance, in all its forms. This year, we took special note of the 80th anniversary of the creation by President Roosevelt of the War Refugee Board, the first official effort by any government to protect the citizens of other countries from the ravages of racial, religious or ethnic-based persecution.
This virtual program was hosted by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. Speakers provided remarks in their personal capacities.
