The best and most important part of this film is when Caine and Ronnie go visit Pernell in jail, and Pernell tells Caine: ‘Take care of my son. I can’t do shit for him in here. Teach him better than I taught you, man. Teach him the way we grew up was bullshit.’ This film is a near flawless depiction of people that where consumed by a time and place that was difficult for all involved.

Movie was based off LA lifestyle and how most all California gang cities were at the time. Every city in California was having gang wars in the 90s especially with the movies, and banging on wax bs made it worse
If we made the film today with the exact screen-to-paper transcript of the original screenplay of Menace ll Society, the film would resonate just as much. Change the setting to Chicago? Mmmm, maybe.
That’s because back in the day when they made trailers for movies they didn’t reveal The entire plot of a movie unlike what they do nowadays were they reveal everything plus The movies that come out nowadays are trash anyways everything has to have a politically correct message attached to it it’s a shame we don’t get movies like menace to society or any of the movies that we had back in the day anymore because of how much Hollywood doesn’t know how to be original anymore the only thing you get is a bunch of Overhyped superhero films which a lot of people are starting to begin to get burnt out on the entire superhero movie genre
Watched this at 10 in the movie theatres.Some people came out of it emotional and crying like crazy.I was hyped up and missed the message.Just a few years later i ended up in alot of the same type of scenes in the film.Hardheaded.The 90s were a great time.
You can see some scene cut from the movie. Cain crying to shareef, more than likely about Harold, or little Anthony outside and Stacy telling the police about the drive by. Definitely would have liked to see that.

quick trivia, the movie is modeled after martin scorsese's Goodfellas, which at the time was a favorite of the hughes brothers. they loved the brutal honesty and authenticity of scorsese's gangster movie, that they wanted to portray a gangster's life in watts with the same level of authenticity. both goodfellas and menace II society revolve around the theme of consequence, and the actions that land both protagonists in the places they find themselves in - death and witness protection, respectably.

Ron Davis The movie was still cool and effective like it was presented but man having those two scenes in there would have added an extra emotional punch to the film just to see the pain on the other characters' faces when one of them dies to have that feeling really sink in for the viewer.
Marc Thomas That is the aftermath of the driveby at the end of the movie. Stacy, Anthony and Ronnie are sitting outside of Ronnie’s house being questioned about the shootout that I guess just took place. There are also shots of police running through the parking garage in this trailer, which is not in the movie. Also, you can see shots of Harold’s funeral scene, which was cut from the movie. I want more Menace to Society, as much footage as I can get my hands on! 😭
Butch Coolidge I also heard about a prison riot scene that was entirely cut from the movie bc it would bump the movie to an nc-17 rating I am really tryna look for that scene
SandiestDock722 I think you better stop looking. I very vividly recall seeing an interview with the Hughes brothers where one of them mentioned that the prison riot scene was never filmed. It was one of their first days shooting Menace and they were just like “lol, we can’t do this.” It was too difficult to shoot I guess. The interview is most likely available on the director’s cut DVD and/or RU-vid.

This movie was a big part of my adolescence for all the wrong reasons, me and my homeboys didn’t really the grasp the message of the movie. We was more interested in the gangsta part of it. Looking at this trailer now though fuck it really touched a nerve lol.

This song has more of a somber tone to it asking why people are killing each other whereas N.W.A. and 90s rap took an angry tone to the topic.
