I had full on Meniere's disease for 3 years - I tried everything they threw at me and nothing worked. The episodes of vertigo were extremely debilitating, and my life closed in around me as activities and events (esp loud noises), driving, things that I could do before, were dwindling down to the walls of my house being as far as I wanted to go. I opted for the full dose gentamicin treatment delivered into my inner ear and I did that twice. Yes, I lost 80% hearing in that ear (remedied with hearing aid) but you know what? I haven't had a vertigo attack in 10 months since that treatment. I have my life back, I drive, I plan activities, I have confidence that I can come and go and not be knocked down with a sudden, unexpected vertigo attack that left me on my hands and knees praying for death. Pros of gentamicin are no more vertigo, the cons are you lose significant hearing in that ear - I chose to lose my hearing in one ear in exchange for being able to live my life freely without fear again, I do not regret it one bit.

I've been diagnosed with Meniere two days ago after a MRI hydrops. I've got vertigos all the day and constant tinnitus in my right ear. I feel depressed and lonely. I was prescribed treatments to alleviate the symptoms but when I read some scientific comments about them, they cause more side effects than benefits. Therefore... The nightmare has begun for me. I can't dance, I can't run. I can't. Thank you for your comment. 🙏 from France 🇨🇵

@@idaloup6721 You're welcome Ida, if I can help someone else avoid years of suffering then I am happy. It is a drastic step to do the gentamicin treatment, but the rewards FAR outweigh the partial loss of hearing. Go get your life back.

@@idaloup6721 yes, it is unfortunately - here in the states Meniere's is misdiagnosed every day and people suffer for years trying everything they can think of and there is no reason to suffer. I've had ignorance from ambulance drivers, nurses, doctor's, there is not enough empathy and paths of being cured for the percentage of people suffering from this insidious disease. There are different doses of gentamicin, either given all at once and suffering hearing loss or given once a week in small doses and that dissipates the percentage of loss in that ear.. talk to an Otology Specialist, he/she can offer you options. I opted for full dose all at once because I don't live near the specialist I wanted and weekly drives were impossible.

@@laragon4175 I have an appointment with my ENT on friday to talk about it because I can't stand the treatments like Betahistine or diuretics which are for me absolutely ineffective. It's 6.30 a.m here in France and I've slept only 3 hours. I was prescribed sleeping pills but not very effective too for the tinnitus. Thank you very much for your comments. 🙏

I have had menieres most of my life . I’m in my 30’s and had it since childhood. Anyway never been diagnosed officially but I manage it like everyone who has menieres does. I even made a RU-vid video about it. Just recently found I have genetic haplotype and CIRS. So I’m thinking this is why my menieres has been undiagnosed by ENT “specialists” because it’s autoimmune versus general causation of menieres . My haplotype is the dreaded 4-5-53 I’m trying to understand this genetic component more if anyone has some insight I manage my menieres effectively as I researched a lot as a child when no one could help me/ believe me or give me a diagnosis The reason ENTS don’t believe I have menieres is because I still have my hearing

I have the exact same condition and my left ear has lost more than 80% hearing and the ringing sound gets too loud at night that I yell and cry sometimes because of not being able to sleep. Vertigo episodes last for hours, I can't even stand up when my head start to spin. I ride bike moat of the day and I'm afraid of having an accident because of my Meniere's disease.. I don't have money for the treatment..

Riddle me this: I was diagnosed with this last June.. Mine was brought on by stress.. never had any issues before..I had a strong disagreement with my daughter and I had an unwanted house guest. After confronting the un wanted guest, I worked out..I l laid on my bed face down, picked my head up and the room what violently spinning..it almost felt like my eyes were tangled. This is not a condition that runs in my family… I take good care of my body..the whole thing is making me blue.. also the Betahistine di hydrochloride..has way too many side effects for an active person..

I really hope I don't have this. I have always had ear issues but in recent months at first during movements like sitting up, or bending my head I would get room spinning dizziness, still do sometimes, but now it happens even if I don't move my head at all. I can be still and suddenly the room is spinning, nystagmus is happening I think, etc. I do have mild tinnitus I think it's both ears, but so far no hearing loss I don't think, but recently also have been feeling pressure like on a plane but just in my own house. I don't know what it is. Blood pressure is fine, etc no other symptoms that I can think of.

There's no medication that really helps. You must eat a low sodium, no processed foods, healthy diet with lots of green vegetables and fruit. Figure out what foods trigger attacks and don't eat them. Meditate for stress reduction. Good luck.

Does the vertigo always last for at least 20 minutes ? I’ve been suffering with vertigo for about 2 years but the spinning never lasts for more than 30 seconds but I do suffer with ear fullness and tinnitus from time to time .

Vertigo doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll go away.. Meniere’s is Vertigo for a longer period of time.. so you for sure have Vertigo and from what I was told and from what I experience, meniere’s gives someone Vertigo episodes for 20 minutes to hours… I typically get one for 20 minutes to 4-6 hours even up to half a day or whole day… meniere’s (like they said) recurring (multiple in a week or month) and long episodes

@laragon4175

@@RIZWANALI-pi8qu Yes there are side effects. You lose some hearing in that ear and you have some balance issues that you have to overcome. The balance issues are minimal and easily remedied. The hearing loss is fixed by a hearing aid. All in all, you alone have to decide if that is worth doing to lose the unpredictable, intense and often debilitating effects of a vertigo episode. I do not regret my decision one bit.

Ive noticed the effects of caffeine and smoking intensifing the issues greatly and have stopped both completely but no let ups on the episodes yet. Im wondering if anyone else doesnt get the full 20minutes of vertigo but flashes of diziness and vertigo whether im walking, sitting down or even trying to sleep which can then lead to pretty extreme panic attacks?..
