Menopause marks the end of reproductive years in a woman’s life, when menstrual periods stop permanently. Menopause usually occurs naturally, as a result of declining levels of reproductive hormones, estrogen and progesterone, produced by the ovaries; but it may also happen prematurely after surgical removal of the ovaries, as a side effect of cancer treatments, or in a condition known as primary ovarian insufficiency, where the ovaries fail to produce hormones.
Menopause is usually preceded by a transient period called perimenopause, when hormone levels start to drop. The last couple of years leading to menopause may bring symptoms such as hot or cold flashes, mood swings, insomnia, vaginal dryness, urinary urgency, and dry skin. Some women may also experience temporary heart racing, headaches and hair loss. The most telling sign that menopause is approaching is the irregularity of periods. Skipping a period or two is common. The cycles may also be shorter. Periods may be heavier or lighter than usual.
Most symptoms usually ease in the years after menopause, but low levels of estrogen may cause other health problems. Because estrogen influences bone density and has a protective action on blood vessels against cholesterol plaques, low estrogen levels increase risks for bone loss, known as osteoporosis, and cardiovascular diseases. Low estrogen also weakens the tissues supporting the urethra, causing urine leakage, or urinary incontinence. Risks for urinary tract infections also increase after menopause.
While menopause is a natural stage of life and does not require medical treatment, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle including physical exercise and diets sufficient in calcium and vitamin D, to counter the risks of heart diseases and osteoporosis. Women with persisting or severe symptoms may also benefit from certain treatment options:
- Topical estrogen in the form of cream, tablet or ring, administered directly to the vagina, can be effective for treatment of vaginal dryness and urinary problems.
- Kegel exercises strengthen pelvic floor muscles and may help treat urinary incontinence.
- Estrogen replacement therapy is effective for treatment of severe hot flashes and may help prevent osteoporosis. However, it is associated with higher risks for cardiovascular diseases and breast cancer, and should be considered only for women with high risks of osteoporosis who cannot take non-estrogen medicines. Hormone therapy should be used at the lowest dose for the shortest duration needed to achieve treatment goals.

Being a woman sucks. When you have periods, you hate it. When you don't have periods you worry. Then you have to go through childbirthing pains. Worst of all you have to put up with all body aches, joint pains and urinary problems during menopause! Damn we women are so strong physically and mentally. Above all, we still have to babysit men!

I know how you feel and then to top all of this off this perimenopause started as soon as the doctors gave me a brain injury that affects your sleep . I have been living with this brain and neurological injury for over five years now . They abruptly took me off all of my meds and I needed back surgery as I have two herniated discs and a spinal cord tumor. They left me in the corner to die and never helped me with anything. I was on Valium for my back spasms and that is what caused most of the damage . I went two years with no sleep and people being mean and being tortured with noise in my apt so I couldn’t even get an hour . I am on supplements now for the hormones and they seem to work good . I can no longer take any chemicals or have any kind of surgeries ever . I will most likely develop Alzheimer’s. It’s sad I know but I am ignored by everyone in this regards and the doctors got away with attempted murder . I would like to try the bio identical hormones . I paid for my mom to have them . It cost me a lot of money . Unfortunately now I can’t afford that .

I’m 36. My period became light for a few years, averaging 1.5/2 days of bleeding. I told a gynecologist this and she did nothing. Now, my period has completely stopped. I was thinking that it’s hypothyroidism, but maybe I’m experiencing early menopause… the crazy thing is that I just went to two doctors appointments right before I missed my periods and they said that my blood work was normal. So, I’m trying to see another doctor, but it’s hard getting an appointment. The earliest availability isn’t for four months from now. I never had children, so I’m feeling a little sad that I might not be able to.

I went through menopause for one year and it was done. There's other reasons for fluctuating hormones and symptoms. Our bodies need an exercise warmup every morning with stretching, may need fruits and veggies to prevent malnutrition symptoms, remove chemicals from the food supply and water supply to prevent of health symptoms, need proper diagnosis of symptoms from healthcare professionals, and some people just need to fast for 3-5 days to resolve certain health conditions as well. Matthew 6:16-18.

I am a fan of the medical, and scientific literature; the short version regarding risk is that bio-identical hormones prescribed with due diligence reduce the risk of breast cancer, heart dis- ease, stroke, osteoporosis, muscle loss, cognitive decline, and more. In My book(Happy Healthy Hormones), I have references to back this up. Here are some basic points I’d like to address at the outset: • Estrogens should be applied externally-not taken by mouth. They should be prescribed in a transdermal form (applied to skin, or in some instances, to the mucous membranes), known as “Bi-est.” Testosterone, likewise, should not be taken orally. Transdermal or transmucosal application works excellently for both of these major hormones. Progesterone and DHEA are preferred trans- dermally but can be given orally as well. • Transdermal and transmucosal hormone formulations are comprised of two components: a “carrier,” which is known as the “base,” and the hormones that are added to the base. In fact, less than 1% of the total formulation contains hormones, and over 99% is the base. Bases, understandably, contain strong solvents to obtain a uni- form dispersion (solution) of hormones throughout the container. Because these solvents are strong chemicals, I am a major fan of using an organic oils formulation for the base of all transdermal and transmucosal hormone preparations. This specific base does not contain any solvents. For this reason, the organic oils base plus hormones is a suspension: the bottle does require a hearty shake prior to each use.
@nat5992
@nat5992 Год назад
What is the scientific data to support your suggestions? The hormones are the same chemical whether given orally or transdermally. The base of the transdermal product is likely to change the absorption of the hormones which will affect efficacy

I’m 26 and I think I’ve had maybe 2 periods this year? I’m experiencing most of these symptoms. I am nauseous as soon as I wake up. It lasts all day long. I’ve only just started throwing up the last few days. Normally I just feel like trash all day. Food and drink don’t always help. I’m at my wits end. I will get so hot 🥵 my whole body goes red and I have to take off all my layers then I start sweating terribly (I might throw up at this point) it subsides and I immediately get the chills. I’m peeing all the time even if I haven’t had that much fluids. I’m losing my mind.

Yes, you are probably in perimenopause which means pre menopause and can last about 10 years. Actual menopause is 12 consecutive months without a period. After 12 months and no period, you will be post-menopausal. My ob-gyn told me I was in perimenopause when I was 42 which i didn't think much of it. I'm now 46 and having all kinds of symptoms especially the last 6 months. I'm sorry you lost your mom when you were young.
