In this 3rd episode, we continue to follow Jennifer's journey through perimenopause.
She shares her experiences of losing control over her body and mind, feeling shame for relying on pharmaceuticals. Jennifer deals with anxiety, depression, anger, and joint pain independently, and at one point, her depression becomes so severe that she almost requires hospitalization. She also, describes a muscle contraption around her abdomen that feels like a heart attack. To manage her pain, she resorted to taking strong painkillers like hydromorphone and morphine.
Jennifer tried different approaches to manage her symptoms, including cognitive processing therapy (CPT), which surprisingly helped her control abdominal pain better than painkillers and eventually eliminated these abdominal muscle spasms completely.
She also decided to try Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), despite feeling ashamed about it. Along with estrogen patches and progesterone micronized pills, Jennifer takes Escitalopram to treat her depression and anxiety disorder. Taking these medications daily has played a crucial role in maintaining her well-being. Additionally, she has found solace in incorporating marijuana into her personal well-being routine.
Jennifer acknowledges that a significant part of her anxiety stems from the state of the world. As she grows older, the pain and intensity of global issues seem to amplify. To cope with this distressing feeling, she consciously limits her exposure to news and social media.
Currently, Jennifer finds herself in a transitional phase of life, feeling like she is in-between different stages. She recognizes that many individuals struggle in this limbo-like space, as people often find comfort when they fit into a defined box.
To manage her anxiety during difficult moments, Jennifer keeps worry stones scattered throughout her surroundings. She believes these stones can be helpful and comforting, serving as a non-toxic way to address anxiety in the moment.
Jennifer encourages individuals to prioritize their well-being, urging them not to let shame deter them from seeking potential solutions that can provide relief, including the use of pharmaceuticals.

➡️ ➡️ Menopausal Hormone Therapy
Hormones are chemical messengers in the bloodstream that regulate many critical body functions such as temperature, digestion, sexuality, reproduction, and bone generation.
Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) has been scientifically-proven to decrease the intensity of several of the many women’s menopausal transition symptoms, specifically hot flashes and night sweats, bone loss and vaginal dryness. It has also been proven to reduce future health complications related to hormonal change such as dementia, heart attack and stroke, osteoporosis and vaginal atrophy.

The work you are doing here is saving lives. You need to know that--I wish I could tell you more but as a sole earner--I can't risk anything about my performance lacking. Thank you for shedding light on what some women are going through. Especially those who have the ADHD & PMDD link making this exponentially worse. I don't have family or a spouse to support me, just women like you.

I definitely feel less alone watching your videos. When you were talking about your anxiety & that you don’t think HRT is helping. You mentioned how you have always been a compassionate person open minded to other people’s suffering, I feel that I’m the same. I am also a HSP (Highly Sensitive Person). You think you also may be too?

Jennifer here. I am just starting to delve into this. I'm more a reader of explanatory science articles than self-help books (and to each their own, of course), but I bought Judith Orloff's book, The Empaths' Survival Guide (drjudithorloff.com/empath-survival-guide-description/) and very much see myself in it. Particularly the negative coping mechanisms, ahem. She goes off onto some bad "woo" tangents like adrenal fatigue which is not a thing, but overall some thought-provoking ideas. Social media has driven me away, and I have to take regular "news breaks". Standing and staring at a rhododendron bush in full bloom today, or bees mining a hydrangea yesterday. Micro moments of beauty seem to get me through the day if it's a bad one. - Hugs from Herstasis x

You are not going crazy! Most importantly, you are not alone in your feelings. Perimenopause and menopause are stages of life that catch many women by surprise, leaving them completely unprepared. Thanks so much for your encouraging words!!!❤
