Funny that David Rudisha ran his WR in lane 3 and they gave it to Symmonds. Lane 3 should be reserved for the most deserving 800m runner.

@@nickpropst4938 I agree with him. Who are you or anyone else to judge who the most “deserving” runner is? The way they do it now is perfectly fine, using the qualifying rounds to seed the final.
@nickpropst4938
@nickpropst4938 3 года назад
@@nick5422 Prelims and semis don't tell you who's going to win because they only run as fast as they need to so they can save their body for the final. If you were to go only based off of those times you'd be forgetting about the entire field's personal records and throwing them out.
@nick5422
@nick5422 3 года назад
@@nickpropst4938 Their personal records are sort of irrelevant here. If an athlete wants a choice spot, then they can choose to run faster in the prelims. Say Rudisha was racing this Olympics. He has a PB of 1:40.91, yet he has suffered many injuries and setbacks (through no fault of his own). If he were to race now, does he deserve that choice spot? Who decides that he gets lane 3 over, say, Amos, who has a slower PB but is clearly in better shape nowadays? That’s a slippery slope that necessitates the prelims, athletes shouldn’t be afforded an advantage just because of prior accomplishments.
