A valet bowl is always a welcome gift for a guy emptying his pockets at night. I decided I would try a square one using a piece of Jarrah, a viewer sent me. If you find my videos helpful, you can buy me a virtual cup of coffee with this link. www.buymeacoffee.com/mikepeace3Y

A very nice piece. I may just have to one of these to replace the cheap metal one I use. Great idea, thanks

Watched your video on Friday night and finished my own Walnut Valet Bowl today, Sunday. A little different design but inspired by your video. Super fun project. Thank you.

Very neat looking bowl; really like the shape and the function. That green dust was something else, have never seen anything like it.

@@MikePeaceWoodturning Mike, good afternoon, thank you very much for your appreciation of the work with chess. Your videos have also played a big role and continue to help in mastering turning skills. In most cases, I watch your videos without translating subtitles. English is at an intermediate level, but the general essence and your actions themselves are quite clear. However, sometimes I turn on auto-translation of subtitles. On my videos, I try to manually add English subtitles using a translator. This way they are more accurate. On very large videos, manually adding subtitles for every 5 minutes of video takes 40 minutes of time, it's quite possible to go crazy on several-hour releases. There I already hope for the accuracy of the automatic translation of RU-vid itself

Just read some of the comments Mike. I also don't think it is Jarrah. Not that it matters. Still a nice project. I live in South West Australia and have Jarrah on my property. I turn it quite frequently. And smile at Warpoo below. Yes, it dulls your tools real quick.

Nice piece. Don't know if you are aware but Minwax Antique Oil is no longer made! I've been using for decades!

It still shows up on the company website. I bought some a few months ago from Ace Hardware. I will be disappointed if your info is correct.

Good looking project Mike. After reading the previous comments I wonder if it is Jarrah. Having never seen any Jarrah I have no idea. What do you think? Regardless it is still a great piece of work. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

I think you may have had the colour balance or white point of the camera set wrong or else you used very old fluorescent tubes for lighting. The colour in the still photo at the end of the video looks much more like jarrah.

I was told it was Jarrah by the turner who sent it to me. It is marked on the bottom as Jarrah with pyrography so I think it will remain that way, right or wrong. 🙃

Was the shavings/sawdust green or just lighting???

Yes, greenish.

as a west australian turner......with all due respect Mike, i don't think that's Jarrah, Jarrah would have blunted your tools within a few seconds, Jarrah is also much deeper red, and i have never seen green dust come off jarrah green or seasoned. it looks like you have got Merbau which is from Asia.

Merbau usually has gold/yellow flecks in it, not seeing any of that in this wood.

Are you sure this is jarrah? Jarrah is usually a much more reddish colour and doesn’t produce green sawdust.
