It's a pleasure discussing this matter with you personally, Dyzee. Despite clarification however, it still shows how limiting this system is, since every judge now has an impression scale on which to place the bboy. Instead of just raising their hands towards someone who might've been a lot better than 5s, they are restricted to giving similar scores bringing battles that were complete blow-outs to closer ones. Finally, it doesn't help get rid of the biased opinions, which is a bigger problem.
Metal Fusion Crew was pretty dope, they had their own flava. I enjoyed that. If I was them I would've felt honored to be able to battle the two time defending champs. I'm from Seattle, WA, USA and when I heard that Massive Monkees won, it was a proud moment here and inspiration for us as the newer generation. We battle for the love of it, not the hate!
Precisely. That is why it is a lot more important to think of a better way to choose judges, rather than judging the battles. As for the system being very limited, here is one of many examples: Say one bboy goes in and does a crazy round that impresses most judges to the extent of giving him a 5 in anything. What do you do if a bboy from the opposite team goes in that round and does something even better that blows the first one away? You are suddenly limited to a tie, while he was much better.
this is the most intelligent comment ever. you're right dude I just didn't expect some fools to actually try to refute me in such childish ways. peace to you
Yes, of course there is still going to be bias. However, it becomes much more apparent when they have but one category to judge. No one can defend them by claiming that perhaps they adhere more to one side of the dance: OUR takes into account all of them. It also eliminates the accidental bias that judges may show towards one style.
I see what you mean, & I just wanna clarify I was making a scenario up so don't take it personally. I respect the OUR system, and I think it's focusing on making bboys, what they should be. But what if both bboys battling have both good style getting the same score. They're both on beat, creative, clean, dynamic and fast. Would you just be choosing who you like more then? I hope you get what I'm saying. I'm missing the battle category, so I think that's what it comes down to, who battles better.
Korea's doing it indeed, however without any technical and sport-like restricting and demanding judging systems. The beauty of bboying is its freedom of expressions and limitlessness. Putting boundaries with categories and minimum-maximum scores removes a good part of that. Agreeably, a much better judging system is still necessary, however OUR is not the most efficient one yet.
Not about the actually system itself, but I think having the scoreboard at the top of the screen ALL the time distracts from the actual battle. Show the scores for a few seconds after each bboy/bgirl goes, then stow it away until the second set of scores is ready.
Yes, I have no doubt that judges are basing this decisions on something; however they definitely aren't keeping personal preferences out of it. If, for another example, one bboy does an average round and gets 3-4 mostly, but the one from the opposite crew does extremely well, then he must deserve a lot more than just the one-point-away 5. If this system is an absolute "must" now, was a point system on a scale of 10 ever considered? Or maybe anything at least as flexible?
i was just thinking about that outcome! i think that a 5 should be totally reserved! 4 generally should be the highest while only out of this world performances should be given 5,,or rather there should be an extra that can be added to a 5!...in other point systems throughout sports there is a (eg 8.5) so we could apply the same scoring
Hey R16 there's some controversy over the foundation judges. Some of the time it felt like the scores were too low or should have been higher. Born specifically gave too many 3s even when there's a clear difference between foundation. I'm not a professional judge, but I can see the difference in foundation yet the same score. It feels like the BBoys aren't doing enough to get bumped to a 4 but still higher than 3. Something like this can be remedied if each category was out of 10 instead.
Dude, it's a Korean crowd and Jinjo was off the hook. Props to Mental Fusion (they would have won most of the other match-ups with that score), but Jinjo had the best first round in my opinion (even if it was a little routine heavy). Yeah, there was some dickriding, but Jinjo deserved props, especially from the home crowd.
He battled with them in the jinjo qualifier, but he did 1 on 1 in this one. The final was really close, I think Hong10 could have been the difference on winning and losing.
These judges are only bboys themselves. Under different circumstances, they are often judged by the same bboys they are currently judging, so credibility isn't immediately absolute and irrefutable simply because they are sitting on the judge panel this time. Regardless, bias still exists, unfortunately; sitting on the panel just gives them the power to play around with it.
I was okay with John for the most part, sometimes I felt his 1s should have been 2s but regardless he gave higher than a 3 occasionally. That I feel made foundation area competitive instead of identical like what Born was doing.
so much hate in the comment section, why dont yall just watch the battle and enjoy the culture instead of trying to argue whose right and whose wrong and dissing each others bboy life? Hell, i was hoping for some analysis of the battle, because thats what the comment section is for! not for squabbling.
Jinjo is a dope crew and they threw down hard, they deserve the win, but honestly, I believe Mental Fusion deserved some more points in a couple categories.
hey dyzee big fan but I have to say that I kinda agree with how the judging scale is kind of off at times because with powermoves I've seen people get a 5 for dynamics and straight after the opposite crew would do powermoves but of more skill level but it is also a 5, personally I think it should be out of 10 which gives it a more precise scoring but thats just my opinion.
Hip-Hop is all about respect, but if you say someone got smoked, that's not disrespecting them lol. Sometimes you get beat...bad. I personally think Jinjo smoked them but it happens sometimes. When it came down to it, not looking at the scores, Jinjo's energy did it for me. Mental Fusion had good shit though. Jinjo was just better. I don't know many crews out of China, so I'm interested to see what they do in the future! Props!
Minutely, at best. Nothing is to prevent a judge from simply scoring someone slightly lower than deserved because of bias, even if they are judging the category in which the bboy performs well.
Well of course, it's in korea, only natural that you'd support your home country :P but anyway mental fusion was sick as hell and did their thing, respect
Once again, if you keep stalking me on my other videos, you will notice my regret regarding not being able to prove to you what you are really worth in person. I truly hope that fate will give me a chance to come and make you put your moves where you mouth is.
I don't mind having arguments with people who are relatively novice in the field; however, arguing with someone who is nothing but an audience at best is simply pointless.
Cont But who is to say that he battled better? Who is to say that 2000 is better than 1990? 90s is one hand, in 2ks you get to assist your other hand? But it's better because it looks more dope? So he wins that battle category? Do you get what I'm sayin Dyzee? Yes you can determine the standards; foundation, originality, dynamics, execution, battle. But you can't judge they style of the way this ART is performed. You can't say this guys style is better. Who are you to judge someone elses style?
Lil John was a pretty good Foundation judge actually. A lot of those guys at R16 Korea were either not clearly displaying confidence or lacked all of the 3 Foundational styles. Keep in mind a lot of bboys at this level use sets rather than freestyle, and that costs you points. There's a difference between being a hard judge and a bad judge.
I hope you know what I'm sayin. Bboy A goes first, gets a 5 in all scores besides batle. (his footwork was creative, following every drum note played, hard ass transitions to power, executed perfectly to kill the beat with a 1990 from freeze) But went 1st so couldn't get a 5 in BATTLE cause he cant respond to no one going. Bboy B got 5 in all. Described same way in above parentheses. Except to RESPOND back he does 2000 from the same freeze! Gets 5 in battle cause he did it better? Cont..-
Also I never talked about your understanding of bboy culture in the first place. Why bring that up. I never questioned it. I only responded to they way you presented your first statement. Also if what I am saying sounds like I am trying to prove my intelligence then please end the discussion here because I am not. "LOL you proud of yourself?" Really? only proves my point.
sorry for ever trying to continue proving my point. The internet is definitely not the place to do it. I just wanted to send my message out and end it there. don't wanna become one of those pro youtube debaters. peace out
You know what I think they should do to make it so that it's not limited? To make the maximum still be 5 but make it possible to go over 5 with no limit. Like let's say one crew did really good in all of the sections so they score all 5s. But the other crew "rapes" them by doing even better to score all 7s and 6s. I think that would make it a little bit more fair. Just some thoughts :)
Damn FE didnt even got a turn:S and its the first time china got far in an even so it was really good to see them! and the crowd was dickriding jinjo al de way.....
Bullshit, dude. These judges have seen far enough Bboying to know when to give out a 5. They're not children seeing the dance for the first time; blown away by every backflip. There are bound to be errors with any judging system, but it's far better to organize ourselves than to leave these decisions to mere opinion.
LOL you proud of yourself? Criticism is not disrespect. Disregard for the other crew because everyone only cares about the best crew in the world really tells you about the bboys of this generation. I'm no OG, but I really took the time to understand this culture. Perhaps you should do the same before trying to sound intelligent towards me and picking out a cop-out statement to get back at me with.
so if everyone is hating on jinjo's dickriders and praising mental fusion for their effort standing against a top crew in the world and probably thinking as well that they shouldve won someway...isnt that just dickriding mental fusion as wello.o just wondering..i dont mean no hate just a confused kid looking for answers
aaronwong64 Honestly dont think its so much dickriding as in people truly thought jinjo took that as did i. Yes props to mental fusion for holding there own but regardless they shouldnt have gotten the win.
Well look who it is, yet again. Who are you to even mention respect, when you're going around videos with your biased hater opinions, flaming every comment section there is. Learn what the word means before you use it.
