Patients with psychiatric disease needing inpatient care have reportedly been waiting days, and sometimes even months, due to bed and staffing shortages. How did the US health care system reach this point? This session will consider the causes of the current crisis, policy and ethics challenges to providing the most appropriate care, and what solutions would promote better care and resource availability.
