Thank you for standing up for people like me who need antidepressants. I get so tired of some groups telling me I should wean myself off my low 10 mg of citalopram per day. That small dosage of antidepressant makes the difference between me being a happy, productive person, and one who sits in my chair and stares at the wall. I'm 66 now--so what if my small dosage of antidepressants gives me health issues when I'm old. Right now quality of life is far more important to me that what might kill me in my 80's or 90's. I've been on citalopram for about 10 years now. I have tried to live without it, and my quality of life sinks once more. So I plan on staying on this med for the rest of my life.

Listening to you has made me feel better. Truly was like you were talking about me. I have struggled with anxiety nearly all day every day for as long as a I can even recall, stressed out all the time and as you said affecting relationships. I reached breaking point at end of April 2022 and had to go off of work to try and fine balance. I hope more people see your video as it has helped me.

Year 12 for me on 20mg Citalopram. Word of advice..don’t skip doses. Stay consistent with taking it same time daily. For me skipping for 2 days causes very low mood and crying spells.

Thanks for your video. It sounds like you are describing my story. General anxiety and depression for as long as I can remember. Constant high levels of stress. Now I am 42 and cannot take it any longer. In 3 days I have got my first citalopram. Your story helps me a lot🙂 thanks!

@@alymac1997 now I have taken 20mg for almost 3 weeks. I noticed some difference, but still feeling anxious, and do not have more energy. Also my social anxiety is still present. What was the difference between 20mg and 40mg? Thanks for your reaction🙂
@alymac1997

@@MrDennisotto Hi Dennis. I think you should wait a few more weeks and see if helps. The 20mg did make me feel a bit better but later in day I didn't feel best. The 40mg gives me balance through day and has and i truly mean this saved my life. I didnt notice any more side effects from going up to 40mg.

I have been on citalopram for years without side effects. I used to take up to 40mgs which then dropped to 30 . During these latter years I have found that I am actually autistic (Asperger’s). I reduced the dosage over many months and managed to get off them. However I did not get depression back but I was going crazy with my austism l. That made me start again at 20mgs and I have fine since . You have to take months to get off of citalopram so take it steady .

I took it 5 years ago, & started again this Thursday. I'm not sure if it's the meds, but I also felt calmer around 24 hours later. Maybe it's also the fact that I'm going to stay with my mum for a while & away from a stressful situation at home.

Thank you for your video! I just started my journey with this medication. Anxiety IS making mountains out of molehills! However, observing that intellectually, doesn't stop the inner emotional state of unrelenting discomfort at one's core. Anything that can take the edge off of all that, would be very welcome!

I've been taking citalopram (10mg) daily for three weeks and I had a huge increase in anxiety after three days. It was so bad I went to hospital. I live in a rural area and my neighbour kindly drove me to hospital at 4.00am on the day. I wanted an injection to calm me and/or advice on how to stop the tablets. They talked to me instead which calmed me down and I dediced to continue. Since then I've had periods of high anxiety for a few hours here and there, the last few days it has worsened again (so from about day 18 to 21), and I sometimes go for a walk as I can't sit still and have considered going to hospital again but haven't yet. My doctor has prescribed me valium and another anti-anxiety medication to get me through. I am so hoping this anxiety surge is temporary, from what I've read 'the anxiety stops after a few weeks' and 'it can take six weeks for my system to fully get used to it' - so all I have to do is wait. Can people reading this, who had anxiety early on when taking citalopram - which later went away - please comment on their experience, and also how long it does take to go. Many thanks.

@@alymac1997 I found that the anxiety did pass after a few weeks, just like I was told it would. Those first few weeks were hard though. I would say to anyone taking these tablets, who is having it hard in the early stages, to keep going - the anxiety DOES subside.

Ive been taking it for 3 weeks, i had instant relief from the worst anxiety i had ever had, constant sucidal ideation, but no risk of actually doing it. I had no symptoms of depression this time around, which i attribute to weekly LSD. I stopped daily drinking 2 weeks prior and chronic cannabis use (2 oz a week) within 2 days of starting it with minimal withdrawal from cannabis. Ive been sober ever since, the longest ive gone since i was 14, even with a highly stressful job its been very easy. Im looking to take it for atleast 2 years then reevaluate

Hey Bro. I used to be on the same medicine. What really annoys me is the nightmares. 😂 I have GAD so I got my self off it because I had a reaction to it. But I guess it was a side effect. It was making me have sexual desires "sorry if it's inappropriate" hope I'm not the only one. I regret getting off this thing tbh. I'm trying to get a job and work. I'm also on Clonzepam for anxiety as needed. And on Depekote for mood Disorder. Wish me luck. Asking my doctor to get me back on it. :) Should've stayed on it. :( Have you ever had manic episodes from the medicine by chance? And nightmares? Just curious. Glad you're feeling better. Hopefully I can start working soon. I'm like you right now. Got diagnosed with Major Depression Disorder, etc. Also been fighting with my family lately. Considering gonna convince my doctor to get me back on it. Should've stayed on it. GAD is NOT FUN. :( Can't even get out and get a girlfriend. :'( Can't even get out side of my own house and enjoy life anymore because I'm too scared to leave the room. :'(
