The main problem I personally have with buying a house is that I don't have enough money to buy one.

Imagine a whole neighborhood of numerous, magnetically floating, cube-shaped houses with no yards...

I hear you about living on top of other people. I live in the country after 30 years of living in the city. When looking for a place the rock test is best. From anywhere on your property if you can throw a rock hard and hit anything that belongs to the person living next to you your too close

I live in England, and although there are cockroaches here they don't seem to bother with peoples houses much, maybe its slighty colder and less humid than they like. We do have harmless house spiders though, but not many mosquitoes and they do not carry infection either. You might like it

Interesting to hear you talk about this, as it’s exactly what I was thinking with a comment you made in your house tour video about sometimes waking up to see the neighbour looking down at you from their window, that type of thing sounds so uncomfortable! When I was young and living in a second story bedroom my parents got windows with a type of glass installed that you couldn’t clearly see through so we couldn’t overlook the neighbours yards as a ‘solution’ to this, it just sucked because the solution made it so that you couldn’t see out of them at all other than vague outlines

Every neighborhood needs the “weird looking house”. It’s a great landmark for people who might get lost in the neighborhood or area. 😅

Hey Peter, nice drawing, you made a lot of sense in this one. And you're right that roach poison is the same exact elements that are in nerve-agents in chemical weapons, except that they're in such miniscule amounts that it would take a very, very large amount to seriously affect humans. Now on the other hand, becauseof my asthma, we use natural insect deterrents. A combination of 91% isopropyl alcohol, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, and citrus oil, works rather well. Best regards.

The shape, decoration and colors of every room of your house directly affects your psychology. The nature of each room is a space that can allow certain behaviors and moods and can disallow others. Kind of like with people: with some people, it can be very easy to share certain thoughts, and with others, it seems impossible!

I could tell during your house tour that it may look messy to other people, but everything had a place and you knew where it was. It makes perfect sense to me to not care about what the exterior of a house looks like. Its purpose isn’t to look good, it’s to keep you safe from the elements and store your stuff. You want good insulation, a good roof, good plumbing, and good up-to-date wiring. I’m also very private and hate being seen by neighbors, too! You and I are very similar in these ways. I bought a house once. I grew up in a house with stairs, so I wanted one with stairs. I like cooking so I got a big kitchen, well bigger than my apartment. I wanted a garage and a yard big enough to garden in. I went for features and location being close enough to public transit and shopping and freeways. One thing it was missing, was Southern facing windows, so most of my houseplants died. The windows were a problem, you need to get curtains or blinds right away, and that's a big expense, or you out sheets over the windows. What I'd really love us to also have a basement and an attic, and fruit trees or berry bushes already established in the yard (again something I had as a kid). I just want to go home, basically, but that house is 2.6 million now, so I can't afford it. In trying to figure out how many bedrooms I want, I came up with four, one for me, one for a guest, one for disgusting ugly paperwork and mail, and one for art and hobbies. I can't afford a house now either. Sometimes I think a barn in the middle of nowhere. Hey if you want to avoid insects, look at higher elevations. Fleas don't exist at a mile high I heard, and when I went mountain climbing, once we got to higher elevations I didn't notice any mosquitoes anymore. But it would be colder than sea level, 3 degrees colder for each 1,000 feet gained in elevation. So 3,000 feet above sea level will be about 10 degrees colder (Fahrenheit). Maybe you want to consider proximity to hospitals, snow, can an ambulance get to you year round? Do you have to snowplow a Mile to the main road every day? Fire trucks? Proximity to schools is good for resale value. It's really hard to do alone. You must have friends who are architects, might be fun to get together with some and brainstorm perfect home. You might want a music room, for example, or a dedicated gaming room. Some people may want a home theatre. I think I'd want a big workshop for woodworking tools. I want enough land for a treehouse, and a pond big enough for a rowboat, so that needs a dock. It's free to dream!! A sauna would be great for health benefits, but I think costco sells those sometimes.if you're in colder climates you'll need a greenhouse to grow some food and maybe grow lights to grow indoors, a wood stove and place to store cords of wood . Maybe you should look into barndominiums. You know, you might enjoy building a dollhouse, for Dan. For architecture, for dreams. Hobby Lobby sells kits, miniatures dot com. Greenleaf kits are a pain to put together I keep hearing, but easier to modify because the wood is thinner. So if you want a door it's easy to cut a hole in a wall. Or the sturdier brand and easier to put together is Real Good Toys brand . Lot of people into miniatures and I'd totally watch videos about your progress.

Dear Peter, your House is your house. As long as you are comfortable with it then you have no complaints from me. I live in my own home with my husband and we keep it in one way. Great drawing.

Or maybe some sort of small devices that could be installed inside your walls, roofing, floorboards... Throughout the ENTIRE house... Small devices that emit some sort of ultrasonic sound waves that repel insects and rodents? Would that work? Is that a thing? Idk, but it's an idea. Kind of like those "invisible fence" things for pets... Slightly different, but roughly the same concept.

Well, over the years I have rented a few apartments with cockroach problem. No bug spray could solve ifestation problem. But there is a solution. Use special gel or paste which you spread in places where cockroaches tend to live. I tended to use smal cardboard pieces with this special paste and put them under furniture. After 3 days cockroaches are gone. You should keep the paste for about week or two for effect to last. It supposedly messes with their heads. They stop reproducing and start attacking each other. Last time I had to use this paste it was Dupol brand but I am sure if you search internet you will find others.

And I think that pen is giving us all some love.

I own my house. Built in 1983. Built on in 1989. Thankfully I got the roof I wanted. I dream of renovating it more all the time. My dream house is a steampunked Victorian. It must have an epic attic. The virtual community I play in allows my dreams to come true as far as my decor urges. Lol @ mowing and blowing. Hub mows 3 lawns in the family - he loves it. He is in his element there. No, one must have privacy! At least is my book too Peter. The front of your yard would be uber cool with living green walls. England has the wonderful mindset of their lil small front yard gardens walled off that way.. About your insect issue? Can you get like a pest control man to come and spray? I mean, I was doing my business on the loo when I saw a roach bigger than my big toe!? Fricken freak me out!? That was it!! I had had enough of roach babies. I now have NO insects except for an occasional fly, moskito or moth that flies in from the door that stayed open too long. Now is not the time to buy houses. Economics 101 - PERIOD. The only people silly enough to do it now must because they have huge have to move issues. My daughter as an example in Baltimore, MD. There they have the most expensive house market in that area I read a few days ago. Houses cost big bucks there. She had her 4th child a few years ago. Plus, because of Covid she is working from home a lot. Her hub is about to retire early from the AF. They are both super intelligent people both worked Intel for our AF military. Daughter still works with same bunch. Grandfathers are under her wing in teams - she is team leader - yes, they dislike her sorely. But she did the work - so too bad...lol. Those people get the promotions. So they had to go from a 2k house to a very close 4k house. Oh boy, her brother with his two lil ones and wifey plus my hubby and I will be vacationing there in July. I can't wait! Her house has a koi pond and a huge treehouse. Also, a sunroom and so many plants springing up in the yard they are sending me pics to help them identify. They are happy. A community pool and park is a block away. My maverick amazon little girl is turning 40 in a few days. And her frugal work and save $$ habit has paid off. Keep dreaming Peter. Don't worry Peter, I am a clean, organized woman and I once got some critters inside. Come to find out critters get carried in via boxes of soda cans and cartons like that from grocery stores. I have taken cans out of cartons as soon as I get home and have not had any more issues. Thank you for your videos. I'm still a fan after all these years. Hugs! I like watching videos of other peoples creative or unique houses but for myself I just like simple stuff. If the roaches are coming from your drains you can try pouring a mix of ammonia and hot water down the drain every now and then.

Home Defense, inside and out. Spray the entire baseboard inside and spray the foundation outside. Especially around the doors. Bugs don't always come in just to look for food. Leave the windows open and go out for lunch. Raid has real lasting fumes. Hair spray for spiders. I don't need yardwork, I just need room for paint, a good light and locks for the doors.

I agree about privacy. The ideal for me is that nobody on the street or neighbours can see in any part of the house. I find it hard to understand why some people are happy to live basically on display to others, but maybe some people really are comfortable with that or even like it??

Several acres of land, with trees and hedges, enough trees so you have a mossy yard - no mowing. Lizards are great for controlling insects, we have lizards living near the house and they sun themselves on the kitchen and front steps, while also being on the lookout for their next meal. With enough land you aren’t looking at your neighbors and they can’t see you, however when you live far enough out to have privacy in and out of your home you have to drive everywhere because you probably won’t be on a bus line. There are always trade offs when buying a home, you just need to know your must haves and be flexible with the rest.

Hullo Peter, I also dislike bugs all kinds! We have a monthly service that sprays an environment certified friendly mixture to keep insects and spiders away from our house. We do live with a green belt of about 500 acres behind us so we must have some barrier that keeps them out! I know that people who have clean homes still get bugs from things that are delivered to the house! Insects lay eggs in and on boxes so you are better off not saving boxes in your house! I imagine if you figure out how to create a bug free home you could turn that idea into millions!

GET LITTLE LIZARDS ...I told someone I actually heard the roach walking on the marble ledge on my roof and they thought I was nuts . Monsters that can fly right on you and have it feel like something is attacking you 🤣 all roaches suck but the big ones are the skeaziest. This is in Greece Athens, when we have little lizards in the building they eat the roaches, little pink ocher lizards ,love them they good luck to have around they say , I don't even care if I see one next to my face on the wall , they fun 🤣

I thought that roaches are everywhere regardless of how clean and tidy a dwelling is. The roaches I see at night are coming from the sewer plates out on the street and they go from there. My house is clean, or as clean as can be with 2 humans inside, but every April, those pests crawl out of wherever they are and scare me to death.

That happened to me. I was sitting in my room and I heard a wolf spider crawling on my desk it was so big. But not nearly as big as the spiders in Australia. But I don't have arachnophobia. What I really hate are the house centipedes in my house. They are disgusting

It's not possible. I don't mean to BUG you about it, and please don't think I'm smoking a bunch of ROACHES for saying this, but creepy crawlers and flying scourges are a part of living. As far as buying a house goes, now's the time if you can financially afford it. Several months ago would have been better. Interest rates are rising and that can make a house go out of reach fast for most people. Our house is on top of a hill. Now we have a neighbor that is also on top of the hill and if we wanted we could spend all day looking into each other's houses. That's where getting to find a neighbor that isn't going to BUG you becomes important. We are so far up off the street, elevation wise, that the street can't look in. The brick exterior has a great insulation effect on temperature. And I do everything to keep skitter beings out of my house. They still get in occasionally, especially spiders and flys (during certain times of the year). Living in NE Wyoming, though, is also very cold throughout much of the year, which suits me well. So the bug population is minimal most of the time. Late Spring and Summer we do get yellow jackets...but they don't come inside very often. Good thing, too. They are the worst bug there is, along with mosquitos, which we can get...but I spray my yard for those a lot. I also take odorless garlic tablets every day and that makes you taste bad to those little devils.

Talking about houses gives me anxiety because of the competitive market. But I still enjoyed the video on mute.

You think that's gross? I'm an ex-con. I did a few years well over a decade ago. Almost two. Anyway, when I was there, I bought my TV off commissary. But, they're clear so you can't hide things in them as easily. But I used to see roaches in it. Sometimes I'd be watching TV and see the shadow of a roach on the inside of my screen. I felt them on me almost every night. The prison I was in was actually in a movie before because of how old it is. The cells are crazy small and there are roaches the size of a man's thumb all over the place. It was partially in Law Abiding Citizen too.
