Thanks for this. I really appreciate the story you captured in this movie. I actually climbed the mountain in the same season a month and a bit later just before the season closed. I was one of the last people on the mountain in 2017 and the tea houses all closed their doors behind me. Truth be told, I didn't make it all the way up the mountain, I made it to High Camp and beyond to within about 300m (altitude wise) but had to turn back. So I can appreciate it when you say "it's hard".
Thank you! Such a great experience isn't it? Well done on reaching your limit, we can't ask for more than that can we? It all depends on conditions and circumstances. I'm sure on another day you can go higher again - if you want to!
I've been dreaming of a trip like this forever but lived the career/money chasing life for decades instead. Now chronic illness has taken over. Live your life people! Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful adventure with us! All the best
Sorry to hear of your illness, you can live vicariously through these kind of videos. I enjoy watching ordinary people's videos on you tube. I never take my health for granted. Thank you for the compliments, and thank you for watching.
@@TerraNova1967 Im afraid my GoPro 6 let me down. But I got some nice pics, and I summited Imja Tse with Ngima Sherpa, from "Climbing Everest with a mountain on my back". He is an amazing and humble man, and has summited Everest 9 times. He is my hero and my friend!
Beautifully made!! Thank you so much for this. You just took me there.. congratulations again... planning for 25th November hoping for the weather's favor 😊🤞
A wonderful diary and presentation of the expedition to Mera peak.Did the same trip with the luck to have the same great conditions in 2003 but in those days direct out over the Zatra la.This high class vidio enanbles me to remember this trip of a life time with fond memories of poor Andre the high altitude sherpa who perished on the Mera la as he tried to retreat from the Amphu Labsa....Rowland Dixon ..the English Lake District
Hi Rowland, thanks very much for the compliments on my film. I imagine going straight over the Zatrwa La from Lukla was a killer! And that's very tragic that a sherpa died on your trip at the Mera La. Must have been awful for everyone, particularly his family.
Incredible video. Brings back great memories. I climbed Mera in October 2011. Couldn't quite make the summit. Got to high camp which I thought was pretty decent for my first mountain ever.
@@TerraNova1967 Tnx ! So pleased that we didn't come up the fast route via the Zawtra La - what a nightmare for acclimatisation. We went back down that way which was obviously quicker.
Hi Terra Nova, your video helped me a lot for my summit to Mera peak in 2019 Oct. I have watched your video several times before my starting. I was so worried about snow-fall over Zatrwa La, but this year I have faced NO SNOWFALL there. Good God as I was completely alone after Thuli Karkha to Kharkey-Tang after lunch with injured knees. Many many thanks brother.
Thank you very much for the feedback, that's great to hear. And congratulations on summiting! The getting back over Zatrwa La is so tough after all the effort you expend getting up Mera. You must feel absolutely brilliant now. Well done.
After Annapurna Circuit, EBC & Dolpa Trek recently back to back the last 3-4 months of being back in my motherland Nepal, now Iam really considering Mera for my 29th birthday this October. Epic Birthday at the summit of 6,476m a gift to myself and a constant reminder for being a survivor, a warrior 👊🏻❤️ Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻
Great video... I was also on Mera Peak in Oktober 2017. Probably 1 week before you guys. Absolutely amazing trip. Just one little thing. Mera has 3 peaks: South(6065m), Central(6461m) and North(6476m). You aswell as I went to Mera central. So you have "only" gone to 6461m. The gps at 28:57 is set at Mera North. The top to left of it is Mera Central. Glad I didnt have to cross Zatrwa la pass in snow. That looks brutal when you are exhausted
Hi Kristian, thank you. Maybe we passed at Takhto, as people were returning via the Zatrwa La... Yes, I realised later, analysing my video that it was likely the central peak... ah well, what's a hundred metres between friends...! Yes, the Zatrwa felt brutal too, I was totally spent!
I got goose pumps several times during the video! Thanks for the great impressions! Now i am really looking forward to the hike to Mera Peak next month:)
great video, thanks for sharing your experience! You really made the effort not just to capture the physical side of the trip but also the personal side which many people who go there forget! Its on my bucket list for sure :-)
Wow. What a brilliant account of your epic achievement. Fantastic video and fabulous scenery told in a human way with a great storyline. Congratulations 👏
36 years ago I came over Amphu Labtsa, had camp at Mera La 5450m. It took just 4 hours to the summit, 2 hours down and another 2 hours to Thagnak. There where were absolutely no tourist facilities anywhere. Big lodge clusters there now.
That's incredible Kari. From Mera La to the summit was 8 hours for me. And from the summit to Thagnak was a further 6. So that's 14 when it only took you 8!
@@TerraNova1967 It is all about acclimatisation, the distances are short and routes easy. I has spent about 2 weeks at around 5 km altitude, spent 4 days at EBC and even climbed to 6000m on Everest. That explains a lot.
That was great. Thanks for making that video. I am going on this trek in Oct/Nov 2022. Really a great video. I am 65 years old. If you have any tips I would appreciate reading them. Thanks, Scott Anchorage Alaska.
Thank you very much for sharing such an amazing video. I am planning to climb either Mera or Island Peak. I still can't make up my mind. This video will help me to make my decision one step forward.
So amazing. THanks for sharing your journey. Am headed there in late May this year and have never climbed a mountain this high before. This has been inspiring! THank you!
Fantastic film! Wonderfully put together, and we loved the Yorkshire connection! Heading to Island Peak next year, and have previously been unsupported to Annapurna Base Camp. You have totally captured the essence of the Himalayas and the wonderful Nepalese hill villages in this enthralling film. Well done.
Thank you Matthias! That is praise indeed! I'm very glad you watched and enjoyed it. Island Peak will be magnificent, good luck for that... and make a film!... cheers lad!
Awesome video, can you please provide a list of the gear you used. The gear that's on the table in the beginning of the video. Greetings from South Africa. Johan
Wow,thanks for that amazing video,it brought back so many memories.I did the trek exactly one month later than you guys in November 2017,but in the exact reverse direction.Made it to high camp, but the temperature dropped to minus 50 and the wind was howling at over 100 kph during the night. We had to retreat to the kitchen tent which was better protected and in the morning 2 of the small tents had disappeared.Never made it to the top,but what an experience. Will go back one day soon to do the last few hundred meters. You guys were sooo lucky with the weather.
Great stuff! Enjoy every minute, even the parts that are hard and difficult! If the weather is good make sure your leaders give you plenty of time on the summit, ours called us off after 15 minutes.
@@TerraNova1967 Yesssss it done. Wow, for my part that was one though night trek. But we all made to summit. We use touring ski from base camp up to advance camp. My son skied down from summit to base camp. I skied from advance camp to base camp. We had plenty of time, it was clear, no wind and -10C. Next time i'm in Nepal for a trek, i will bring protein powder to add to my meals.
This was one of the finest videos I've seen on Mera! I'm starting to prepare for Mera Peak for May 2020. Which month did you go? Once again, Congratulations!
Thanks very much Uttam, that's really nice of you to say. I went in October 2017. Weather was mostly good, couple of snowy days but we were lucky, especially on summit day. Good luck with your trip, you will have a memorable experience.
Mate what a absolutely amazing video. By far the best of Mera. I’m Planning for late 22 early 23. This has made me want to do it even sooner! Being from the uk myself I want to do it with a company from the uk. Would you recommend Adventure Peaks?
Hi Jason, thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching. Glad you liked it, I put a lot of effort into it. Definitely recommend Adventure Peaks, I did it with them. There's also the possibility of doing it with Nepal agencies too, Rasuwa Treks in Kathmandu is one. At the village of Khare, last in the line at 4900 metres, there is a lodge there that has all the climbing gear you need for hire, including boots and crampons, which means you can also do it fairly independently. It's an amazing summit and a fantastic trek. Good luck.
Thank you so much for making this video. Very usefull in my preparation. Unfortunately I live in the Netherlands, so training will be walking up and down the stairs ;) I love your 3d map, how did you made these? Everybody is wearing different shoes and crampons. What advice can you give me, a double (plastic) boot or other leather shoes? Have a nice day!
Hi Sannie, thank you for your feedback, and thank you for watching :-) I made the 3D maps from Google Earth, you can plot routes and then do screen recordings of them. It was quite tricky, and I haven't repeated this since then so have forgotten fully! Check it out. This is a good video which explains kit required for Mera Peak. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UUcYsJBSU8o.html. Good luck for when you do it. :-) Best wishes.
Wow! Where do I start, what a brilliant video. I know it's 3 years later now but huge congratulations and well done. Brilliant scenery, brilliant music, great running commentary and narration. Absulutely stunning video, what did you film it all on. I have booked to do Mera and Island Peak, not both together but both in the next 14 months. And you have certainly inspired me no end. Thank you so much. I'm from West Yorkshire by the way, and I'm always somewhere in the Dales lol. Good luck with future projects. Thank you ☺
Hi Leigh, thank you for the great feedback, really glad you enjoyed it, makes all the effort making the film worthwhile. I filmed the majority of it on a Panasonic GH4 that I bought second hand on ebay, it's a great camera! The summit shots were on a GoPro Hero 3, an old model. Good luck for your trips to Nepal too, I hope you make it!! Which part of West Yorkshire are you from? I'm originally from Normanton near Wakefield.
@@TerraNova1967 Hi there, I watched your video a second time over the weekend, I really loved how the whole group was together and everybody was so helpful to each other. I am from Leeds but live in Huddersfield, I used to live in Wakefield, I used to go in the is it Horse and Jockey in Altofts which is near Normanton. Lol.
Beautiful video. Well done not only from the graphic but also from the "meaning" point of view (the values behind, etc.). Is there any way to contact you? I would be interested in knowing your training plan, material, trekking agency used, etc. Thanks in advance for any information.
A great chronicle of a successful climb of the Mera peak. Congrats to all the team members for summiting. BTW, did you rent the crampons in Nepal or did you bring them on your own ? I am planning the same trek with my sons after this pandemic is over. Hope it is soon.
Thank you Sandy, I took my own. There will be boots and crampons for hire at Refuge Mera Lodge, a tea-house/ bakery/ climbing centre at Khare at 4900m, just one day walk below base camp!! You can find them on Facebook. It might be a good idea as it would save you, or a porter, from carrying them all the way there.
Cracking video you made there and great to see a local lad get up there. I’m heading back to Mont Blanc for the third time this year with a plan for Everest Base Camp the following year but I’ve now got a change of plan 😆 Who did you go with etc?
Sorry for the late reply Michael. Thanks very much for the feedback. I went with Adventure Peaks based in the Lake District. Good luck with Mont Blanc and Nepal.
@@TerraNova1967 great probably I am going to Mera peak on this November and your Film help me a lot to make my plan and I have buy latest diji action 4 for Film I hope this camera will work properly in that altitude and super cold place 🙏 anyway thanks for your Film and reply .
Congrats on reaching the peak and your subsequent documentary! Truly inspired - I am aiming to take it on next year. What camera did you use and did you need many batteries? The footage is amazing
Thank you. I used a Panasonic GH4 camera for most of the filming and it has outstanding battery life. I took 5 spares and didn't need them all. I only used the Gopro for the summit day. The Gopro has terrible battery life. I took about 6 spare batteries but because I only used it on summit day I didn't need them all. There is electricity in the lodges all the way up to Khare but they're popular with everyone wanting to charge devices. Have a great trip, it's magnificent.
For Ama Dablam which is "only" 400m higher climbers spending average 30days...not sure why most trekking company expecting their client to reach summit on day 8...most people will fall out if they coming from sea level..i understand the business part which is quick turnaround times=more client during the season..my personal opinion people who go private at their own pace have much higher success rate then those who sign up for groups to save 200-300$..my point is when the guide said we are here for the group not for individual goals...ive been most of the trekking peaks and if you wanna enjoy the journey better you gave yourself a good 20-25 days for proper acclimatization...unless you coming from a different mountain where you acclimated already
This is by far the best one ive seen. Ive saved it to watch over n over, till I am doing it. Great vid and congrats to all. Which company did you go with?
Thanks so much for watching and that very kind feedback. I’m chuffed you enjoyed it. I went with Adventure Peaks based in Ambleside, England. I hope you get to do it and succeed.
@@TerraNova1967 Thnk you for the quick responce. I have had a look at Adventure Peaks site, and it is alot better than the one Ive found. Great find. Plus it gives me the oppertunity to complete the rest of the training all in 1 place. Thanks again and I will look forward to your next accent.
Great video. You really managed to capture the full trip, good and bad points. How did you keep batteries charged etc for all the filming? I ask as I am off to do Mera Peak as well and keen to capture the journey. Thanks and keep up the good work

Hello ! Beautiful video and much respect. Watched it to prepare for my trip in 3 months. Can you tell me anything about the required fitness ? And how much did the backpack weight ? Greetings from Germany
@@josh_meyer8758 I think it's important to have experience of mountains, and trekking, but not necsaarily mountaineering. And definitely to train for it. Not sure where you live but get some long walks up hills and mountains, aiming for 10-15 miles walking and 1,000 metres of height gain. Then get put a few consecutive days together. Any form of cardoivascular, cycling and running too, will help/. The pack I carried weighed about 10kg, I had about 25kg in a duffle bag the porters carried.
Thinking of doing Mera Peak end of this year or next year. Did you have any crampons experience? Is it necessary to have the experience of crampon use beforehand?
Yes, I was experienced. I would always recommend a basic winter skills course before this trip. Cuts out the anxiety and you and your team will know you are prepared.
Nice one, some great footage here mate. So on this type of expedition do you basically take two bags, a 40-50L pack and a duffle that the porters haul?
Hi Tim, I went with Adventure Peaks from Ambleside, England. You could organise it in Nepal too through a company called Rasuwa Treks, very good outfit.
You can't go wrong with the Everest Base Camp Trek and the Annapurna Circuit or Annapurna Base Camp. They are both spectacular, in fact it's all amazing in Nepal. Just try and take as much time as you can and do longer treks than the standard routes, Cho La Pass and Gokyo on the Everest side for example.
No, I paid in ££££...! You can check the prices on Adventure Peaks website, and others. You may be able to arrange it a little cheaper by booking guides direct in Nepal.
