I've gone for a spin in one of these. Can confirm it pitches like a boat when you put the hammer down. Also the G I was in had movable side bolsters on the seats... Every time we went round a corner it felt like the car was trying to grope me.
Jordan Smith also had the pleasure to drive one of these for a week. Its a great cruiser and just gives you an amazing feeling when driving it. Cornering is obviously horrible and the car is fucking pointless, but I really love it.
I think this thing would be perfect with diesel V8. Decent noise, good fuel economy, enough power and massive amount of torque. Shame they won't make those anymore really.
Especially after Mercedes had the lovely 420 cdi engine with 4 Liters and 306 hp. That engine developed to modern standards would have been perfect for that car
@@Paul-lw4uj Indeed! But I don't know is it the most reliable engine (420cdi).. Had one in GL back in the days and it struggled to get to 300.000kilometers..
I find it interesting that 3500 kg is so often stated as the maximum towing capacity of vehicles in the UK (e.g. Defender, Land Cruiser, Range Rover). I notice that this 3500 kg matches nicely the UK driving licence categories for maximum braked trailer weight. I believe that I higher driving licence category is required if one wishes to drive a vehicle towing a trailer weighing over 3500 kg. I would like to know if the maximum towing capacity stated by the likes of Mercedes for this G-Wagen are the same in every market, regardless of licencing rules, and whether or not it might be safe to tow greater than 3500 kg off-highway.
This SUV has a history unlike the Bentley one and others out there so people asking stupid questions will not change the fact that this SUV is on top of other suv's.
@@bngr_bngr Two years ago in my country the only son of a VIP died due to over speed in this car. This year engineers at Brabus made rear suspension lower and stiffer. I think it might be akin to this.
You can’t appreciate this car in the UK It works so much better in the USA or Middle East where there is bigger roads bigger parking and you can go off tossing regularly
@@bebin73 Hey, I've forgotten about this 1 year old comment, but what I meant with that is: the overal design of the car hasn't change much. Should have phrased that more correctly. Mercedes made it better yes, in every aspect except the design in my opinion.

In 10 years time, Mercedes Benz will add MBUX in G-wagon. Then in 20 years time from now, they will add panoramic moon roof. So, if you want to buy a G-wagon that has both MBUX and panoramic moon roof; you have to wait for 10 and 20 years respectively. 😂
It’s. 4.0 v8 not 6.3 . They push a lot out on the small engine but it’s called ripping the customer off . Should have the 6.3 as per the badge .. they go the cheap way engine wise
I believe there is also a TV programme called Pointless, I haven’t seen it and didn’t make it to the end of this either. Come on Henry, you usually do sooooo much better.

Now I know why Russian gangsters like G wagons so much. It's to put their unfortunate victims in the back and lock the doors on them. The noise would add some drama.
Drug dealer or footballer's car. No idea what this car actually does well that others don't? Nothing. However, there are lots of things other SUVs do better than the G.
For a similar price, sorry, but for me that would be a Tesla Model X. And not even a performance version. That's more than 30k at your disposal right there, not even accounting for the expenses down the line... That is, unless you really want to go off road with either this or even a Defender. Get real. This is 2019.
I own & drive Mercedes-Benzes & I must say this review is an insult to the M-B G. I have driven "Der Gelaendewagen" in every terrain possible & he has always performed admirably. That is why militaries around the world use him as a troop carrier. On any motor vehicle website the cars are the star of the show; this seems lost on Catchpole as he dresses & talks like a cartoon character which detracts from the vehicles. I recommend he watch Jay Leno on Jay Leno's Garage to see how it's properly done.
