Bei einem Besuch des Mercedes-Werkes in Bremen im Zuge einer Ausbildungsfahrt - muss wohl 1988 gewesen sein - haben wir in der Karosserieabteilung die Rohkarosse eines Prototypen gesehen. Die Eleganz des SL hat mich damals schon begeistert und tut es heute noch: Für mich einer der schönsten Mercedes, der je gebaut wurde - auch wenn sonst Mercedes nicht so mein Ding ist.
Sehe ich genauso : der schoenste SL aller Zeiten : der R129! Hochwertig, zeitlos Elegant, Komfort Wie die S Klasse, maechtig als SL500... Bin vor 20 Jahren den 500 SL meines Chefs gefahren... Ein unvergessliches Erlebnis!
Just bought my 1999 S:500 with 95,000 miles and drove it 740 miles from Virginia to Florida. It handled beautifully and everything worked including the cassette deck and CD changer. Soon I will remove the hardtop and enjoy the soft top up and down. The most comfortable car I have ever driven. And very fast, sehr schnell.
Still a stunningly beautiful car that if restored to stock, and powered with that bullet-proof 5-liter M119 V8 motor, would give many of today's roadsters a serious run for their money. Like DaytonCarCare said, you can pick up a running R129 today for 3 grand USD, or less today. Refurbish the suspension and replace all the engine's aged timing chain parts to create a precision highway missile that still turns heads after a quarter century since the R129 was first unveiled. I'm fixing up a 1991 R129 500SL right now, matter of fact.

@@p__jay Still waiting... Doubt the value will go up significantly in my life time. Actually just saw a nice one up for sale for only $4500. A customer I just changed some soft top cylinders for has a V12 600SL in great condition was only going to ask $10k for it.
Looks like a 90 or 91 commercial due to the two tone color scheme with the bumpers. Also when they show the old CIS-KE fuel system @ 2:53, which was changed to a MAF system in late 1992.
Ein schönes Auto. Allerdings haben mich diese Plastikplanken seitlich und die matten Stoßfänger in unterschiedlichen Farben zum Auto immer gewaltig gestört. Keine Ahnung, was Mercedes sich damals dabei gedacht hat, sieht einfach nur billig aus. Ich würde immer einen Mopf 1 oder Mopf 2 nehmen.
