If you have to remove the seats from your Mercedes C320 to replace them or service components beneath them, for example the fuel pump or front seat switches, in this tech article I will show you how. Once removed, you can repair items like the seat switches, the seat module or motors; or in the rear, the fuel pump or seat belt buckles. I will break this article down into front and rear seats. Though there are a lot of options for different seats and configurations in the Mercedes C-Class the procedures are basically the same. Our project car had the flat rear bench seat with no split fold or pass through.
Front Seat
Begin by moving your seat as far forward as it will go. Then, remove the two E12 Reverse Torx mounting fasteners at the rear seat rails.
Next, you will have to remove the seat belt from the front seat. Use your trim tool and lever off the trim panel on front seat to expose seat belt fastener. Use a T45 Torx and remove the lower mounting point of the belt from the seat. I also like to remove the lower seat trim panel at this point as it is easy to damage when removing the seat from the car and expensive to replace. Better safe than sorry.
Once the seat belt, fasteners and trim are removed from your seat move the seat all the way rearward to expose the seat module electrical connector and front mounting bolts.
Remove the two E12 reverse Torx bolts from the front rails. Tilt the seat back and remove the three electrical connectors from the seat module.
You can now carefully remove the seat from the car. The rear panel is held in place by two T20 Torx screws. Unscrew them and slip the panel down and off.
Rear Seats
Begin by removing the rear seat cushion. There are four 13mm nuts holding the bottom cushion to the body. Remove the nuts and lift the cushion up and out of the vehicle.
With the cushion removed you can use a T45 Torx and remove the center rear seat belt anchor point.
Next remove the T45 Torx and 13 nut holding the child safety seat anchor bar. Remove the two 15mm nuts holding the center rear backrest along with the 10mm screws on each side.
Move to the trunk and remove the two plastic covers over the backrest release catch. You have to use a flathead screwdriver and lever the release (red arrow) away from release stop. While you lever, push seat back toward interior of vehicle. You will know when it releases as it frees up a bit from the body.
Now tilt the back seat cushion forward and pull up to remove from side mounting points. Once out, remove cushion from vehicle.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
