Thanks for the genius lateral thinking solution! A refinement I made to solve the problem of the toothpick coming out, and that results in a near permanent solution (unless you have a few $100 to spare) is to use a tie wrap instead. Get one the right color and size and poke the entire length into the gap. The fastener at the end will ensure it stays in place.

Nick you are a genius! It actually works on my MB C230 bouncing door lock. I had to trim the toothpick to fit into the gap around the door lock, and only about 1 cm of toothpick (buried in the gap) was okay to keep the lock from bouncing. The toothpick (although a temporary fix) is cheap compared to about $130 for the replacement door actuator plus installation cost.

Brilliant. Works just like the video. Merci beaucoup. I looked in the manual as it is a pain trying to get this booked in and fixed at a garage. I saw that there are complications to get the door skin removed as you have to disconnect the battery so that the airbag does not deploy etc. Looked like too much work for me to do. someone else with more time and experience may try it but I can understand that it is not likely to be cheap for a garage (let alone a MB one) to fix.

Nice 'ghetto' fix unti you can address this issue. I would cut the sharp end off that toothpick though, you don't want to stab your hand or some other part of you on it!

Mine car is triple price from Yours and I put with no doubts and works fine, if You have extra money to waste go to worksho an buy whole new mechanism !!!

My 2005 SLK is doing the machine gun drill with the lock. I will try your suggestion. Mercedes wants $590.00 to fix this. If this is truly just a spring issue, I will try to fix the spring before changing the complete actuator. I agree that Benz should recall this. 21,903 people have watched this. Might be time to go back to BMW.

p.s. my car is a 2002 C220 estate (W203).

My door lock stopped working (effing bouncing) six years after purchase. c230k coupe. The dealership garage is lame. I won't go to Sears Import Minnesota anymore. They could not figure out that the fuel pump was barely working. Four visits to try to get it right on warranty. They never did figure it out. they changed a head gasket. Put in a new mass flow sensor twice. In the end they just said that American fuel is different from German fuel so I should use regular not premium. Lame. while the car was there each time they damaged it too. Pushed in metal poke marks on each door and someone ran something over which tore up the inside of the fender. They fixed that one but I had to play their game to get any action. Later I went to a little garage called Custom Coach and the guy Steve had it diagnosed in less than five minutes. He just checked the fuel pressure with plugging the end of the fuel line with his thumb. He said there should be enough pressure to push the thumb off. Wonderbra!

Temporary?? Mine is in toothpick mode for 3 months, now. I think I'm going to resell the springs I bought. :)
