A well known fault on older CLKs is the failure of the glove box latch. You can close the lid but it won't open again because the latch doesn't disengage. Using nothing more complicated than a piece of card, I can show you how you can shim the lock on the glove box to open it. I have used this as a reliable method, it costs nothing, and saves destroying any trim.
