I've had the opportunity to test drive a number of XJs and XJRs of this vintage as I search for the perfect one. Having owned Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW and now Cadillac, I've been pining for another Jaguar. The XJR obviously isn't designed to be raced and drifted around hairpins with tires smoking. But in the real world, the XJR is a dream to drive. The sounds, the feel, the comfort and even the smells of leather and wood create an experience unmatched by BMW or Mercedes. I will say there is a lot of variance between older models depending on how they've been maintained. If the air suspension and bushings are in good shape, the ride is amazingly smooth and quiet. Put your foot down and the whine of the supercharger, the intake and exhaust will put a smile on your face! Get one!!
You couldn't have spoken my current mind ANY MORE CLEARER SIR!, I am currently in pursuit of purchasing a 2005-2008 XJR....looking for Radiance Red or British Racing Green..... Literally salivating at the mouth for it lol .
Yesss..You are so dead on point about the jaguar xjr the best style and looks and good power what more can you asks for..Thats why I'm keeping mine until the end of time..She"s my baby and i only bring her out is in the spring and summer and then i put her away for the winter..Shes a 05 and the color wine red and i get alot of compliments when i bring her out.And i had alot of different high price car but this one hold the title hands down.
This guy should try out for the next Bond film. He has the right accent, and he's casually laughing and discussing the cars while rivaling the most intense chase scenes on the big screen. Too funny!! If you close your eyes, you'd think he was sitting on your patio by the pool, rather than hurtling around a turn on two wheels at 100 miles an hour! Well done 007!
i happen to own a x-type and i love it. it stands out from all the plain beemers and merces. its beautiful, and they are rare. no wonder britten has all the elite brands, they own the world.
like both but when i see a cls i think 'prick at wheel' when i see an xjr i think 'niiiiiice'.. and i drive a merc and a saab :-\. damn time for another jag i think
The X350 is about American as tuna & cucumber sandwiches for tea after a cricket match. I know because I worked for Jaguar Cars as a development engineer on this car. The bodyshell AND the engine were designed in Coventry, UK. Engine made in Bridgend, Wales, body in Castle Brom, Birmingham. Most advanced bodyshell in class. Company is Jaguar Daimler. G/Box is ZF.
Also, the AJ33 engine in that car was easily good for 450+bhp just by changing one of the supercharger pulleys, as they did on the XK180 demo car BUT Eaton would not honour their warranty above the durability-tested 400bhp.
Thank God for this video. i am contemplating buying either of these beauties. Always thought that Merc would exude power and AmG performance & crush the XJR. But no! :) this CLS , VW CC B6 , audi S7 are the best looking sedans of the 21st century. But then XjR is so unique with its old fashioned styling coupled with this performance is a must buy. perhaps i need another garage to park them both
I have a jag xj8s 1998 model and I'll tell you it's gorgeous and handles as fine as I'll ever need. It's beauty however is lost on the peopel where I live in east tennessee.
Comparing the wrong cars; the XJ competes with the S-Class, which is like a container ship to drive, and was even more expensive than the £8,000 overpriced CLS. The XJ is twice the car, for half the money.
And today they are similarly priced and have definitely bottomed out price wise. I have paid top money £15k for a 96 reg Daimler super eight ( only 741 made) 95000 miles one owner full history. It’s opened some eyes but I truly believe this is a future classic and it is a real British Beauty.. Computer light… non EV … low tax ( eire import) Non German ( no offence) and I just feel sorry for Tesla drivers for having no personality 🤣😄
I’ve owned over 50 cars including Rolls Royce, Bentleys, Mercedes Cadillacs and Lincoln’s and no car has ever driven, performed, or excited me like the 2005 through 2009 jaguar XJ. Jaguar has unfairly suffered from a reputation that is no longer the case. Although Mercedes makes a great product I think they lack style or presence.
This would be the equivalent of dating an OK, looking woman who is super athletic versus a really beautiful girl who was still athletic, but couldn’t run the 250 yard dash as quick as the other. I’ll take jag any day of the week
Just because Gottlieb Daimler made the first car in 1889 doesn't mean that Merc-Benz have the brains. Don't get me wrong, they're a strong bunch at Merc but any stronge than Jaguar? Probably not. They DO have more money for development. I get the impression that you don't work in the car industry and so don't fully appreciate what's involved.
Daimler IS a Jaguar brand and has been since Jaguar bought Daimler in 1960. Jaguar don't sell a Daimler car in the US because the brand is thought to mean trucks and not luxury cars. Daimler Super V8 is sold by Jaguar Cars in Europe, not Daimler-Benz.
Now let's see that again, with the new CLS63 AMG (5.5 litre twin-turbo) vs Jaguar XJ Supersports (5.0 litre supercharged)... Out of these two, I don't think I'd buy either tbh. Jag too dated, soft and cheap switchgear, Merc too heavy...
