I've driven both, and the cls55 is so much more of an event to be in and around and drive. And way way faster on the road, without even trying. The cls63 feels faster still, but for me the 55 has a little more soul. And how doess a 2004 design still look current in 2021?!
@@nathanlopez5667 i have owned mine for 3 years now and it now has over 100,000 miles on it and nothing has gone wrong, and i mean NOTHING. Everything works as it should. Only thing to watch for is the18 inch wheels are weak and are prone to crack on the inside of the rim ( causes slow punctures and M.O.T failure ) and the headlights are only adequate (try and find one with xenon headlights if you can ). It is by far the best car ive ever owned.
Most owners don't know but that is the only year they made the CLS55 AMG - 2006. I have a customer with one and I told him to hold on to it. Unfortunately with 39K miles, it has valve cover leaks that is causing smoke on the passenger side.
Have both of these cars, unfortunately somebody hit and totaled my jag. If anyone is ever looking to get one they are really reliable never had engine problems when taken care of, that car also has automatic braking cruse control very cool for 2004 Jaguar xjr. The Mercedes is just a beast, very nice driving car with a great 5.5 mag engine that is pretty much one of the best v8 amg engine. No problems with 70 thousand miles and gets romped hard whenever she is taken out.only problem I’ve had was transmission, that was going out when I bought it.
CL 63 AMG didn't exist when they filmed that back in 2008. Also, CL is a 2 door coupe and the XJR is a rival of M-B S-class. Not fair to compare coupes against saloons IMHO. They have driven the CL 63 against Panamera Turbo, link: =fOTGKNFASsQ
I love both these cars, I've always had a soft spot for jags XJR I would love to own one maybe one day, the Cls well what can I say looks & sounds to die for, it's a brute in a smart suit
But, brother, the jag is much beautiful than the Mercedes, and it is also faster counting that it has 80 less horsepower but only 1 second late. Idk in the 2022 say that the merc is beautiful, beacuse is simple a lie!
M113k engine one if the best ever made. And to everyones surprised cheap and easy to fix and actually built like tank!!!look it up! Only problem after 60k miles....s/c bearing replace thats $100
he will once the warranty expires. trust me on this one. a friend of mines family got it and it like 6 years old now and it has a ton of problems. mainly electrical, nothing wrong with the engine.
taking looks aside, is the cls really worth the premium over E class? I know its a 4 seat configuration that improves its weight distribution, but I really doubt its even 20% better than the E class
Being a 4 seater doesn't improve its weight distribution whatsoever. it's slightly heavier than a same spec E55 saloon. But it has a slightly lower centre of gravity due to lower roof .
My father bought his black CLS63 AMG in 07' & he's gotten at least 100+ compliments from people he didn't know. Video's don't do this car justice, this is the most amazing car I've ever seen or been in. When I park my 07' Corvette next to my fathers car at a car show his car always has a crowd around it saying wow! that car is amazing looking! My Vette just sits there, people check it out but, nothing like his car. Your the first negative comment I've seen about this car. To each his own.
Thats a really cool story. How is the cls holding up now? You still have it? In my opinion looks better than most of new cars, not to mention the sound 😅
well, they both aim at the same customers. But you're right ... the chassis of the XJ makes it look like a boat. The last minute of the Vid says it all.
@LukeNAESA10 right that's why: the SLS,M5,Veyron,911 turbo,911 gt2,M3,C63 amg,S-class and the maybach are all British. NO wait they are German. and the british don;t build any cars anymore.
I think if you just lowered the suspension by 2cm/an inch or so, it'd really be a good handling car. Mine is just 15mm lowered and it's such a huge difference in grip and boat-likeness. But you'd pretty much ruin the floating-feeling, which i wouldn't compromise. It's a jag, not a MB AMG.
@astromatrix The Jag is all over the place because of it's softer suspension. And no Tiff is a better driver than JC. That being said Top Gear is waaaaay better than this show. Watch the old Top Gear when Jeremy and Tiff used to do reviews.
@LilScony08 Where are you coming from? From 19th century? I own a CLS55 and it has sport mode. In 1991 I had a BMW 7 series and it also had sport mode. Welcome to 20th century! BTW we are in 21st century now buddy lool
You cant say for a car that its ugly. Mercs and jags were beautiful in the past! The only problem is in the past century car makers had to do good nad nice looking cars,to sell them. Today, you buy a car,and after 10 years you can only put it to junkyard. 30 years ago,you bought a car,had it for 20 years, and after that you sold it to someone and even that guy had it for 20 or more years. Today car brands look only for money, not a good car.
Biggest issue with cls, cl, s, etc of this era was trhat ABS suspension but we all know how to fix that forever dont we! Well...atleast us real amg heads know how. Everyone else just fixes them and again and again and eventually runs out of money, sells to a REAL AMG guy for afucking DEAL!!! And boom we fix for good on thr cheap
when you buy one of these cars you aint going to use it on the track, its all about comfort... And the jag is a way more comfortable car to drive. so if you are going to use youre car for racing, buy a ferrari...
It goes to show the 5th Gear Track is not a good testing medium, and the host _really_ can't drive. Not because the Jag-you-are wasn't faster, but that the AMG should have been MUCH higher on that list. I hate 5th Gear. Top Gear for life. *puts on flame suit*
@LanntiChelsea Mercedes the "king" of cars.Ha! I doubt a king would want to ride in a car that uncomfortable to ride in, anyways that was an old jag the new xfr would make mince meat of that mercedes, you heard how he said that the breaks were already fading. plus jags are way better looking and more reliable, look it up.
I think my use of 'we' is correct. After all I did write that 'I think'. I was not stating as a fact that everyone who owns one of these cars will only drive it on the road. If in fact you are the owner of that Mercedes and you drive it on the track for most of the time that is good and well but it does not authorize you to 'dis' my posting. If you wished you could nominate someone with bigger adenoids or a more stupid name. That would be more appropriate and more entertaining.
I'm afraid that Tiff's grammar is somewhat lacking: his use of the comparitive is particularly incorrect. He crosses his arms too much when he is steering and he has a stupid name. He probably has the biggest adenoids in the world. What is the point in booting these cars around a track. Even if we could afford the car I think we would drive it on the road for at least most of the time.
why did someone give lama101 a -1, he's right you know. the new mercs, at least after 2007 and all, are back up to the standards they used to be during the good old days of the 1990s. and, the jag is damn ugly. fugly even. and damn unreliable. its said that if you want to get a jag, get two, cause one's going to be at the repair shop 24/7.
Sell a kidney to get the 8.500 pound to pay the difference Rather one kidney and a CLS AMG than two kidneys and some decadent "wannabe upper class car"
the warranty expired 7 years ago, absolutely no issues, nothing electrical, nothing mechanical, nothing. Jaguars when they were built by British Leyland Motors were horribly built, when Ford took over their build quality improved. Try knowing something before commenting, helps alot :)
Mercedes is superior, Mercedes-Benz was the first automobile ever made in this world its an insult that a piece of shit like jaguar could even be compared to a Mercedes-Benz!
