Hear a loud CLUNK every time you shift your beloved Mercedes into reverse or drive? Your Driveshaft Flex Disc could be going bad and needs to be replaced! Very common issue on ALL Mercedes models. What happens is the rubber begins to dry out and crack causing all kinds of vibration like you see in the beginning of the video. This part is made to reduce the vibration between the driveshaft and the transmission.
In today's video I'll show you how to replace the flex disc quick and effectively. The car used in the video is a 2000 Mercedes C230 Kompressor, but this is same procedure for any Mercedes model with this part. (C / E / S-Class CLK SLK W210 & more)
Here are a few options for parts needed along with some tools used in the video:
- Mercedes Flex Disc Replacement - amzn.to/3CMBWJK
- Transmission Mount for Mercedes Benz C230 C300 CL CLK E SLK W202 W203 W210 W140 W220 R170 C209 - amzn.to/3JvDiw9

@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole 6 месяцев назад
You can usually visually inspect these and see the wear and tear. Lift it up, put it in neutral and grab the drive shaft. Turn it back and forth and see where the movement or clunking is coming from

Can you help me with a question? I have a cls w218 and at high speed if I take my foot of the accelerator quickly, it gives a kick, sometimes stronger, sometimes less strong. It seems to be heard from behind, and I think it is from the cardan, driveshaft flex disc, or something. What do you think?( the gearbox shifts very well, but i think I need to change the gearbox oil. In that condition, that could be a factor?)
@Mechani_Cole

I would go with OEM only. I had a nightmare of a time using aftermarket febi bilsteen front sway bar busings. They squeeked like crazy. When I went back to new OEM bushings = back to normal. Cheap out on the part, you will pay later when you have to do it 2x with an OEM part.

I disagree. I've been using this Febi replacement for about a year with now issues.

@@Mechani_Cole it is balanced. If you don't put it back in place the exact way it was screwed originally you will lose that balance. I only hear the clunking when I turn and am accelerating. It feels like the moon is messed up like twisting a chicken bone kinda crunch. Is that the flex disk or the universal joint?
@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole 11 месяцев назад
Hard to say for sure without a visual inspection. Could be either, or bad tie rods/control arms if it sounds like it's coming from a wheel
@joshuaculley9695
@joshuaculley9695 11 месяцев назад
It’s not coming from the suspension. The sound is coming from the center console part down from the hear shift knob where the tray is. I’ve got a 74 450SL Mercedes. I guess a better explanation would be when the car is accelerating when I’m turning and I can hear it and feel it as if the u oversaw joint was twisting as if you were twisting a chicken wing apart in a circular motion so when I let off the pedal the grinding crunching clunking noise stops and I slow down some to not engage it too much and damage it further whatever it is. I believe it’s the driveshaft just below that part. Wish I could post pictures. Also. Not sure why I was saying when I typed moon..
@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole 11 месяцев назад
@joshuaculley9695 I see, that's a way older model for sure. I think you got it pretty close. I would assume drive shaft, or carrier bearing
