Mercedes' E-Class Cabriolet is not just stylish and comfortable -- it's one of the few four-seat drop-tops that's as comfortable to drive with the roof down as it is with it closed. Thank the innovative 'Aircap' for that. It's a cleverly designed wind deflector that keeps draughts at bay in the E-Class Cabriolet's cabin. Mercedes-Benz bucked the growing trend for folding hardtops and instead used a more traditional fabric roof. That has some advantages, not least that the boot can offer more space with the roof stowed. Seven engines and two trim levels give buyers plenty of choice, including diesel options - the E-Class Cabriolet is the first open-topped Mercedes-Benz to be offered with diesel engines.

Boot cradle, folds back when the roof is up, so gives full space. I have this car in White, it is a pleasure and real head turner! Love it 😍

Same here, I have one and it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Yes the boot too! That plastic cradle swings up to reveal a full boot.

For the boot space - you can push the cabin that holds the rooftop to go up and give extra boot space (full boot space) - an advantage over hard top convertibles.

I’ve got a 2010 model (Australia). Had it for 3 years and just love it. I keep thinking of getting another one but I just love this one too much. Says a lot. That said, like all older cars and especially lux brands, get a good mechanic and maintain it properly. Then repairs don’t hurt too much. (And my sunnies case DOES fit in the door pocket! Haha).

Nice review, but not quite accurate about the boot space. The plastic cradle thingy that houses the soft top does shoves back and up to give better room when the top is in the up position.

In the booth you can push the plastic thing for more hight in the booth when the roof is up.

That case for the roof mechanism actually moves up out of the way if you push it up, giving you more room. And the aircap really works as i have an E class cabriolet, got to say its a fantastic car to own.

I dont really need to know how much space there is when the top is up. I want to carry luggage with the top down because that's the point of the car.

The folding roof cage in the boot can be retracted when the roof is up to allow for mote luggage space, Matt

Mat when the roof is up you can move the roof storer in the boot out of the way it increases boot space you push it and it moves upwards

Just put a deposit on a facelift 2013 white amg sport with 44000 miles. I think the older shapes are even better than the newest shape (2017 onwards) . I can't wait to get the car:)

You may be right, I haven't seen one in black yet. Looking at it more closely, the styling is more masculine than the previous model. Personally, I would opt for a G37 convertible though.

standard equipment in non-budget cars that shouldn't be surprising are: Cruise control, climate control, power everything, keyless entry, etc. it's annoying when reviewers pretend to be surprised that the most common equipment comes as standard.

What a fantastic review. I enjoyed it though I couldn't care less about the car. Mat, you're always competent; you make me understand cars more than any other reviewer and your reviews are extremely entertaining; however, I didn,t understand your initial remark about viewers getting wet while watching you (LOL). The main purpose of a short review is to make people understand if this car may suit their needs and is worth shortlisting, which you, Mat, consistently achieve. Keep up the good work.

They're offset only in UK models, because wheel is on wrong side. Mercedes would have to rearrange the entire engine bay in order to make the UK models identical to normal models, and that would cost a lot of money.

Could you correct in the comments, The boot cradle folds away when the roof it up! making it much larger. It is only like that when you want the roof down. If you could reply acknowledging your mistake, this would help others out. Many thanks

The Ocean Drive Concept was the only thing that came close to a four-door cabrio, but it never went into production. Unfortunately, no, there are no 4 door cabrio's made by Mercedes.

Lol, I have to recognize a third possibility for a convertible, if you know what I mean! Once I had a boss who had a convertible Peugeot 307, we had to go to a meeting and afterwards went for lunch. On the highway he said "want to see the top off?" "uh, not really...", he did anyway, and he having a bald spot, placed a cap on his head. So there we were on the highway, no top, an older driver with a cap and a young bloke on the passenger seat...wished I was somewhere else, lol

Getting this car with a diesel engine should be a crime punishable by law. You should hear the V6 or V8 engine roar under the bonnet when you get your roof down!

I've been wanting to know this for ages, while the roof is in the midst of closing/opening and you drive suddenly way above the maximum roof speed limit, what will happen? The roof stops midway?

i have 1 and you can lift up the roof compartment in the trunk so u get enought space for 4 people and belive me i know , and its a fantastic car it has 204 bhp with 7 speeds , and girls love it ;)

If it's new under warranty, I agree. If it's second hand I don't agree. It also depends what country you live in. I would not drive a diesel in Eastern Europe or Italy. The quality of the diesel is really bad and the maintenance costs will be far more than any money you can save. I drive a BMW with a 3L petrol which burns 18l/100km and it's not fun but I don't have a choice. The diesel where I live is really dirty and it would cost more to maintain the car than to pay for the petrol.

Just watching this review in April 2022 as I'm going to look at a Mercedes tomorrow identical to this one for just under £10,000 with 50,000 miles on it, but how come Mat hasn't got his Brummie accent in this video from 2012???? Is it fake.........

Can't ya fold up the cradle for the top out of the way for more boot space? Of course, once you do that, the top won't retract. Then you pull down the cradle if you want to put the top down once again.
