Jordan takes the EQE SUV 350+ on our standard 70 mph range test. Slightly better than EPA is no surprise & aero wheels would’ve improved it!

i own the 2023 EQE SUV 350+, recently took it on a road trip where it spent most of its time above 70mph on long stretches across 800+ miles. A/C set to 65 degrees and fan speed at 4 (not Eco), and overall vehicle set to Comfort, the car averaged 3 miles per kilowatt hour without breaking a sweat. It can definitely drive longer at 100% SoC than my bladder can.

@@TotallyJoel Fun fact…if he kept the temperature higher, his circulatory system would shunt more blood flow to the skin (for cooling), thereby reducing total peripheral resistance, which would reduce venous return to the heart, and result in lower cardiac stretch, and reduce the secretion of natriuretic peptides from the heart, which would reduce his production of urine, taking longer to fill his bladder, allowing him to drive longer before it filled up. But he’d also use less electricity on AC, allowing the car drive farther, so he might still need to stop before the car ran out of juice. There would be a system of equations to solve…

10:00 HVAC systems have been sufficiently capable for the last 10 years where you leave it in auto don't touch the vents and only adjust your temperature. Air flow through the cabin is very carefully modeled and designed, especially from Mercedes. Leave it alone.

Exactly. They kill me with the "fan on lowest setting" stuff. Just set the temp you want, and let the car do the rest.

The shape of these cars is for aerodynamic reasons and it’s some thing more car company should be doing. Whether it’s combustion or electric aerodynamics plays a huge part and efficiency. The days of trucks and SUVs being square should be over.

After 10,000 miles commuting in my model Y I figured I’d get used to the minimalistic interior but nope. I’d like my knobs, buttons and HUD back please. I’ll probably go back to BMW for my next EV.

climate control buttons i currently have both, physical controls and permanent on screen buttons (I hate the redundancy, yes) and I don't mind them being on screen I rarely change temperature during a drive, the vent controls however I want manual

This is a fascinating car. This is actually a 2024, but a pre production trial 3 (last validation stage of pre production) 2024 car. The chassis lines up with an august production date, placing this car about 4 months and 15,000 units before regular production of 2024s began. With that, 2024 350+s actually get (and I imagine this pre pro does as well) large 96kwh batteries with a rated range of 307 miles, not the 90.6 and 279 miles of 2023s.

For the climate control question, I don't really care. I don't see why this is such a big deal, Once you learn how your climate control feels you just set it and forget it, I don't adjust it much at all. I just want heated seats accessable, on screen is fine. Tesla does climate best IMHO. Not just the control but the single large vent, I hate having to point all these little vents everywhere in previous cars and just having the large vent cool/heat everything is so nice and easy. With heated seats on the configurable Taskbar at the bottom of the screen. They have the slide your finger for temperature and they have low, medium, and high auto intensity which us easy to adjust. It's crazy to me when I hear some, not you, who think climate stuff can be a deal breaker. Crazy.

Oh, one more thing, as you change wheel size, in addition to bigger side walls, the tires on the EQE SUV actually get thinner, I believe the 19s that were briefly (barely) available hasd 245 tires and the very common 20s have 255 width tires.

I’ve been driving my Model Y for over 2 years and have come to appreciate the fact that aside from glancing at the speed now and then, I am not distracted by buttons, a light show of redundant options, an RPM gauge, etc,, etc. I can adjust the sound volume through the steering wheel as well as engage the cruise and just don’t need (or want) 2 to 3 different ways to do the same thing. 99% of everything is usually “adjust once and forget about it”. Typical interiors seem very cluttered and a nod to how car interiors have been designed for decades…a more is better attitude. Nice that people have an option but for me, it just all appears too “busy”.

Capacitive steering wheel monitoring might require an additional sensor, which would be a cost adder, which would be a no-go for Tesla. Steering torque is detectable for free (software), so that’s the way Tesla does it, annoying or not. Tesla assumes customers won’t pay for well implemented features.

My lifetime average is 235 Wh/mi 6500 miles driven so far, most of my drivings are 80% freeway 20% local streets, I've done this more than once and I always get the same results, I have all the stats on my Tessie app to prove it.

@@sparkysho-ze7nm Mercedes will introduce its 800V mid-size cars in 2025/2026, starting with the CLA Coupé in early/mid 2025. It has much better tech and specs than the model 3 and also surpasses the Hyundai Ioniq 6 to become the most efficient EV with the most range, estimated 392 miles EPA, of its class. The electric C-Class follows in 2026 and should offer over 452 miles EPA range (my conservative estimate) with a 100kWh net total battery capacity. Crazy range for a mid-size sedan. The Model S has 402 miles EPA with 100kWh (95kwh net) total battery capacity, the Model 3 LR with the most efficient 18inch wheels has 342 miles of range... So you will always get 50 miles more range + 800V architecture + HUD in the Mercedes EVs.
