you should say the pricing, at least in Europe, not so expensive in your opinion is what, 100k or 200k, mercedes is asking for that electrified GLC-EQC 75k i think it is nuts!

I love the microfiber materials for the interior - I love the feel of it and gives great comfort in both winter and summer. I wish that all car brands would stop removing physical buttons for the most used features in the car. For example, it's a hazard that you have to look at a screen flipping through menus when you want to reach a setting. It's exactly the same as using a mobile phone in your car. I don't understand how mobiles are forbidden, but car touchscreens - no problem!
As for Mercedes' electric naming structure, they should have given the SUVs their own names. As Thomas said, they call it the GLE, not the E-class SUV for a reason. Mercedes have already very well established that the letter "G" refers to their SUVs, they should not have thrown that out the window. They could have had the EQ(insert letter) name for the sedans, and kept the G fo the SUVs, for example, GQE; GQS etc.
If you've been around for a while with Mercedes, the G stands for "Geländewagen" which this vehicle, and most all electric "SUVs" certainly are not. Let's see what/if they call the electric G class (concept presented last year)
@@yissibiiyte good point. Maybe the decision makers for this one were at the start of their tenure and cared vs the end of their tenure and didn't. Who knows. Doesn't look like Mercedes does.
Thomas is the only one bold enough o call aspects of a Mercedes “mediocre” I appreciate his actual review vs the majority of the press that are butt kissers.
Much happier with EQS SUV than the sedan, especially the back seat and outward visibility. Now waiting on your driving impressions of the EQE SUV to see if it is as comfortable, quiet, and nice to drive as its larger EQS version. Hopefully can get smaller wheels for better ride and range, but MB loves to move you up to the larger and more expensive bigger wheels. I want the plushest interior and the smallest wheels without the hyper screen, but not always available that way!
I completely agree with you, especially on the smaller wheels. I want the ultimate isolation/relaxation cruiser. That’s not too big with higher seating position. Hopefully this car will be as quiet as the EQS SUV.
I love the interior and the hyper screen. If you don't like the hyperscreen: don't order it: it's optional. But the exterior has no character. It does not look like SUV. The GLE looks much better. Why Lotus can make exciting looking electric SUV: Eletre? And Mercedes instead creates cars for a grandma? And I agree with Thomas, the old seat control buttons are better.
I know that MB doesn't do simplicity, but that hyperscreen is overkill even for them... Combined with that complex button layout for the steering wheel, the in-your-face ambient lighting, it just feels like too much stuff competing for the same visual space. Just look at 19:37 for example, that is way too distracting. Plus, it doesn't even look or work that great in my eyes, is this mostly for bragging rights?
This interior looks great, I especially like the seating position and space, so far the Tesla Model Y done it the best, but obviously this is more luxurious
1675 litres. Less space than ALL the full size wagons, although it's also longer than most of them. 2.4 tons and you get a Golf wagon more on less, but taller to sit and longer to park.
The red studio provided by MB is visually distracting and quite stressful. Stick to white or neutral colors. Thomas and Autogefuehl excellent as usual!
Great review as always Thomas. The naming is confusing and very reminiscent of folks who name their kids the same as their own name. Wife: “Thomas” Thomas dad and Thomas son “Yes?” Wife: “I need Thomas senior. Sorry junior.” If it was me, I would’ve named the SUVs XQE, XQS, etc.
Great presentation as usual Thomas! I have decided to let myself enjoy the space ship sounds. They seemed rather fake and cheap at first, but driving Taycan and others with sound, I enjoy a reaction when I Accelerate or turn on the car. I’ve stopped being a ‘Synthetic noise snob’!
Once again, I love your presentation. You're my #1 favorite. I'm not a huge fan of SUVs, but I love EQS SUV & EQE SUV in and out. Of all the Mercedes SUVs, the design of the EQE SUV caught my heart and invited me. I would choose a non-AMG version with a comfortable seat. I don't want "range anxiety." And the exterior and interior color of the EQE SUV basic one is gorgeous. I agree with you; EQE SUV would be the best. One question is how much? EQS Sedan and SUV are over my budget. And when will it be available in the US? I look forward to seeing your ride review of the EQE SUV. Thank you.
@@autogefuehl When you have a test drive, would you please let me know how EQE SUV is quiet? Some BEVs are not silently quiet, surprisingly. I heard the EQS sedan and Cadillac Lyric are the most silent-ride BEV at any speed. A quiet ride means they shut down noise from outside, too. And please let me know how the ride is. I prefer a cushioned, comfy ride compared to a sporty ride you would feel every bump on the street. Thank you.
Now thanks to this side sliding port for the wipers fluid i can help my neighbor with quick heated windscreen wipers fluid. Just have to open my zipper...
Great review Thomas, as allways. I order Polestar 3 and still very happy of my choice. Don´t like this Merc's new EQ desing at all. Basic fluffy SUV and even how much there is AMG stuff, doesn't feel even bit of sporty.
Since pants can get dirty with dirt on the sidesteps (this was addressed years ago for the GLC) while entering the car, these are not so useful. What about the DC charging power? The sedan EQE can be charged with maximum 170 kW, the SUV with 200 kW - is this an update which get the sedan, too? But: State of the art are charging power of 270 kW or more - IONITY can deliver up to 350 kW.
Fantastic review as always! Fully agree, the capacitive ‘buttons’ are terrible and look cheap. They decrease safety while driving. Much of the Mercedes tech is great, and the ambient lighting looks fantastic. I am sure the car will drive very good too. But the design is once more a letdown. It may be efficient, but it just doesn’t look good.
i think they should've gone with EVA, EVC, EVE, and EVS (EV for electric vehicle) or ESA, ESC, ESE, ESS but this sounds kinda funny (ES for electric SUV)
Really these giant luxury cars just brings steps back and back for electrification and saving energy. But hey , profit and the free market rules all....
If only MB would move away from capacitive controls and piano black plastic with their next updates S or EQ vehicles! I am leaning strongly toward the new 2023 Genesis G90 $100K version because of its controls plus great ride and quietness. Used to Mercedes and Lexus (last 6 vehicles) so not sure can stand the local Hyundai dealer and their version of customer service and vehicle sales.
You mean companies like VW who charge $1K for the optional heat pump? OK, heatpumps improve interior heating efficiency by up to 30-40% if exterior temperatures are sub-zero. At around -5-to -10C, car heaters are pulling around 2kW, or roughly 10% of the car's consumption. Improving that by 30% saves about 3% of the car's consumption, which might equate to around 15 km of extra range. It can also be used to help pre-heat a battery prior to re-charging, but that's a minor part of the journey. A heatpump is a marginal benefit for winter driving in cold climates. For people in temperate climates or warmer, it's a waste of time.
Honestly, the GUI seems too complicated to use, specially mid drive with all these touch sensitive buttons that are way harder to memorise their position and having poorer feedback
Lucid sticks a frunk in even the most slippery sedan limousine on the market. Mercedes, in a tall hooded SUV...can't be bothered to get their packaging right and refuses you 300 litres or so of super convenient storage space.
This design theme they went for on the EQ cars just doesn't do it for me. It's just so bland. Also ( and besides the capacitive BS 😆, and the big screen overkill, and the naming ), those " Space-Age " sounds are ridiculous. MB should know/do better.
I'd like to see the small print behind that 10% claim, but I don't doubt it will significantly improve range for AWD versions at higher motorway speeds, where previously the resistance of AWD was a killer. While heatpumps are better than nothing, their effect on range is negligible unless you live in freezing conditions and winters are routinely sub-zero.
You say you don't really need the Hyperscreen. For that matter, no one 'needs' any of the opulence that a MB offers. For buyers who want it all, the Hyperscreen is the way to go along with the many other options that MB makes available. To each his own.
Can’t wait for the time when manufacturers can abandon their electric subbrands and go back to just have one model range which will most likely be electric.
It’s literally impossible to tell the difference between an EQS and EQE on the street…..what’s the point of having two model, you could just call it EQS short wheels base or something
This is just a short wheel base EQS. Why did Mercedes even launch it and give it a separate name? There was a time when an E was different to an S and a C. Now there's actually no point because there's nothing different. And with this having a heat pump why would anyone get an EQS.
Why the small boot? So disapointing that MB prioritizes rear leg room instead of luggage room. A sliding rear seat would fix it, but no. Less boot space than ID.4 but a waste of 40 cm long nose without a frunk. (Same as iX sadly). Only EX90 left, Polestar 3 also too big rear seat and too small boot.
That is because this vehicle was designed for the Chinese market where more emphasis is placed on rear legroom. Mercedes seems to have abandoned other markets and now focuses on styling their cars to suit the Chinese market first and the rest of the world second.
Goht Im Himmel that brown seat interior looks terrible!..Once again the tires are TOO low-profile giving a harsh ride, and that $10,000 glass dash option is ridiculous.
I can’t believe this is what Mercedes brings to the ring to fight the BMW iX…the interior, where Mercedes usually shines, is mediocre at best in this EQE SUV.
It’s a gorgeous automotive creation. I love it. I would never buy it. What a thoughtless piece of design. My wife is 5’4”. She would have one helluva time stepping over the useless running board. And she will invariably get her slacks or legs dirty. Why? It’s one of the lowest SUVs on the market, allowing for easy ingress and egress. Except the running boards will get in the way. Either electrify them to recede, or toss them onto the useless parts bin.Just makes me shake my head.
I'm not sure Mercedes' heart was really with it either. At the very best it's foot dragging on the zero emission thing. Seems they don't care or don't believe the hype. If worse, this really IS their best effort, and they're just SO FAR behind on the engineering and design prowess of much younger companies. Trickle-feeding us worthwhile automotive designs. I suspect they can do MUCH better, but for some reason, just won't. Likely, they just can't get enough battery cells to be starting to offer true maximum effort EVs. Imagine the Lucid crew were in charge of packaging, aero and drivetrain with Mercedes in charge of...wheel caps, hood ornaments and software.
@@Cloxxki I agree, they are protecting a legacy product whilst limiting a future technology. They need to start obsoleting their own products before their competitors get there first…. too slow….
