Awh thanks for sharing! Yeah I recommended Sandisk in the description and in the video. You’ve got to make sure you’ve got good read/write speeds for video. I’ve endured that with all of my filming gear! 😂 some of those memory cards are VERY expensive!

Yeah defo! It has pros and cons just like anything. And what works for one may not work for another 🤓 Someone else recommended Viofo so I might check them out when I review some dashcams too 🤓

No worries! I’m planning on checking out some Dashcams later this year and that is one thing I want to clarify with some manufacturers officially. Under my understanding (not verified yet), wiring a dashcam would be fine and not invalidate a warranty. The “warranty invalidation” is when something goes wrong. Say for example someone installed it for you but then something stopped working on the car because of it, then you wouldn’t be covered for that item. Again that’s how I see it, I want to get it clarified way before I make some videos on Dashcams anyway.

This setting is also available in the US if you enable "loop recording" (on NTG7)

Did you wire it yourself? I’ve been wanting to get a 3rd party dash-cam but would never use Halfords again to do it as they did a botch job on my previous Audi.

@@J10Wilshere hi yes I wired it myself. Took about 2 hours. Fitted it top right hand side of windscreen, and fed live feed down window strut, removed small access panel and fed cable back to transmission tunnel behind the steering wheel. Fed cable along tunnel just tucking it up under edge of pvc cover. Removed rear seat usb panel and brought cable up into that space, then removed felt cover from storage bin on tunnel and bored 3/8 hole through base of storage bin and brought cable up and connected into the C usb port. The rear camera was just wired along the top of the door struts to the rear window. Only cables showing are at the top of the windscreen about 25mm each cable. I did buy a set of plastic pry tools which were invaluable, hope this helps.

Sadly there are no other features such as rear cameras because there isn’t one at the rear that’s suitable for capturing video like that.

Yes I saw that one It’s expensive, I’d love to check it out however one thing I do want to test is any of them overheating. It’s one thing having all of these features but I’m sure I read that it had image stabilisation, it’ll be one thing I look out for when I get my hands on some to test!

The resolution is not "real bad", but there are dash cams with higher resolution e.g. 2K-4K.

That‘s good! Thanks for sharing, I’ve got Transcend on the list to check out so I’ll see what they have to offer.

They’ll usually be two things at the top, one is a light and rain sensor and the other will be for brake assist or lane assist systems. The very bottom part is for Augmented Reality which you must spec at factory, you wouldn’t be able to get it fitted afterward as sadly main Mercedes dealers will not and cannot “retrofit” things. They’re only allowed to sell cars as they’re described as per their spec sheets.

Depends how long you wanted to record for, but to start I’d say anything 32GB and up would be okay. The higher the capacity the more it’ll store 🤓 Yes it can do 👍🏼 That’s the thing called Loop Recording Thank you! I’ll keep them coming! 🤓

They’re all USB-C (unless it’s different round the world). Just press Home and go to Apps and you’ll see Dashcam if the car has it or you’ve purchased it. It depends how long you want to record for, I would say for 720p / 1080p footage a minimum of 32GB, ideally 64GB or higher to record at least a few hours / days with depending on your driving.

Sadly the auto start of recording is not allowed on all countries round the world it varies massively!

@@dannyvafa3639the loop just loops the recording and overwrites itself when the memory drive is full….on mine anyway. I believe the auto start is not allowed

I have MBUX 7 on my s580 and it does it automatically each time. You have to set up a loop recording feature and it will do it automatically each time

I’d double check with Mercedes directly to be 100% sure 🤓 However when I ordered my car, there was an option for Augmented Reality (in a different package). Dashcam can be purchased after you’ve taken delivery if you want that too. However I have seen some models have it built in at factory as listed in their brochures so check with Mercedes for the most up to date info 🤓

No worries! I’ve just wired it into the 12v socket for now. But when I review some 3rd party dashcams I will check out the different ways you can install one (warranties / ease of installation / 12v / USB’s etc)

@@npoleary Hi Nick, I'd be interested in how you've done that. I just bought a used GLB. I hard wired my 522 in my previous car (Vauxhall Grandland), but I'm not keen on doing it with the GLB.

Usually a cable of 4m to 5m but I’ve tucked it into the panels. You can see it in my A-Class Review when I got it back after repair 🤓 But I aim to cover dashcams in the summer!

Just been onto the archive of when I made the video (good job I keep a backup! haha) 2 mins of footage is approx 235MB 8 mins approx 1GB 16 mins approx 2GB 32 mins approx 4GB 64 mins 8GB 120 mins 16GB 240 mins 32GB 480 mins 64GB 960 mins 128GB Memory sticks of course are formatted in such a way that you actually get less "usable" storage so a 64GB memory stick probably wouldn't be enough. So I'd suggest a 128GB memory stick. This is the make I use: amzn.to/3J9HRfm Make sure you get a good make with good read and write speeds. Cheap ones will probably not work or will cut out!

No sadly not, it worked fine for me :( It might not be this as you’ve tried another memory stick but make sure they’ve got good read/write speeds. It needs to be good to cope with the constant writing of data to the memory stick. I found this when I made a dashcam video a couple of years ago. Maybe reach out to Mercedes and see what they say?

Yes there is, but it's not a cheap option all in it's around £800. The quality and features are not very good either.

I believe MBUX NTG 6 can only use one USB port at a time. I did cover it a couple of years ago and if I remember people on my channel said it would only work with one at a time. Unless anyone below can share their experience? 😇

You can see traffic lights easily The field of view is very wide. It’s wider than what a driver would see normally

So as you can leave comments you most likely (believe it or not) have a RU-vid account where you can upload videos. You can upload onto there and leave the video as “Unlisted”. This means that anyone can view the video but only with the link you send them (for example your insurance company) If you mark Private then only you will be able to see it. There’s also a separate service called WeTransfer, the links expire within 7 days though so you could use that too. Both are free I should add!

Ah so you’ll need the first dashcam video that I produced a couple ofnyears ago that I mentioned. Ah that’s because MBUX NTG 6 is kph but MBUX NTG 7 is mph (basically different multimedia systems) So it’s the correct speed unit for MBUX NTG 7

I really had the situation when the other guy in front of me revers his car while waiting at the red light and claim that I hit him from behind. Without having the Daschcam I would probably had to go in court and judge as it was my word against his. With the Dashcam, situation was solved in 15 mins, and the driver had to retract his words and admit his fault after seeing the video. Nevertheless by low, in Germany, these video evidences are not taken into consideration if go in court. So, I got lucky the guy acknowledge this fault after seeing the video. @@npoleary

Ah nice! Yes I’ve heard Tesla’s can save footage from their 360° cameras (I think they’re mounted inside or at least behind glass/plastic to keep them clean). The horn auto save is a good idea!

Thanks! Problem is that this camera is not in the options in Netherlands, you cannot chose for this but when you drive their test car, of course you have it. So you think your car will come with it by default (in the end it should be a software addition, not a separate camera imho). So, I have the dashcam for which I paid, now they tell me I have to pay for a replacement (probably) of that camera with the AR camera (that probably incorporates dashcam option as well). This move will cost 1000 euros and I want to know if it is a separate camera or it is just a software option and they try to milk me for more money.

Really sorry I don’t have access to a car with MBUX NTG 6 right now unless it’s changed since I produced the video before. I thought I remember you can hold the Star button on the item, or go to favourites and add favourite at the end and add from there.

It’s pretty fast compared to before, if you do buy it Make sure you’re 100% happy with it, if you’re not Mercedes Me support can refund it within 14 days if you change your mind. Call them though if you do want to do that and make sure it’s within the 14 days.

I personally use a 3rd party dashcam (my Nextbase one) but it does need replacing I only bought it to check it out and make a video on it. Like most if had an auto start, I’d ditch the other one! I’ll be checking out some 3rd Party Dashcams in the next few months! 😎

I'm still tempted just to save installation and to save having it stuck to the screen, although in my last A200 I did hardwire my dashcam to the fusebox below the carpet in the passenger footwell. Hey Bob, thank you! Well each model in Mercedes is updated at different times, so for example the latest generation of MBUX I’ve seen is in an E-Class (it’s either MBUX NTG 8 or 7.5) or gen 3. Mercedes haven’t confirmed the name. These are not software updates though, there new generations of multimedia system, new hardware etc But what orientation is the screen in your car? Is it landscape or portrait?

Regardless of which one you have though, still a cool car! I love the GLC Coupe’s as they have really curved roof but higher driving position. Plus an AMG just adds to that 👍🏼

@@npoleary well that's disappointing. in that case it's not a very good extra to have imo. better buying a stand alone camera as that can be moved from vehicle to vehicle. Perhaps thats something Mercedes could look into as already having a Mercedes me account, I recently exchanged my GLA Sport to an A Class saloon premium plus, so what would stop certain packages being transfered as it's not a new account. For information and this is not a rant in any way I found Mercedes a little behind the curve for their service plan, previuously having a Toyota as a second car (I know) when we exchanged that for the same newer model in the range they transfered the plan and made the necessary ajustments to the monthly payment if needed. Where my wife having an A class hatch exchanged it for a newer model, with Mercedes we had to stop the exsiting plan, and start a new one. If Mercedes want customers to be loyal and we hve had 7 (not all the same models) perhaps little changes like this are needed.

I guess it’s just how different manufacturers operate their service plans, good to know though that others can do exchanges!

Hi Nick. I've got a UK 2023 C300e estate and the handbook actually says to use an SSD. I've stuck a Kingston 2TB one in mine and it works fine. It's pretty tiny as well. Love the videos.

Any SSD which includes memory sticks will usually do, SSD is just solid state storage so I would avoid using HDD (hard drives) I’d always go for a reputable brand though like Sandisk 🤓

I asked the rep these are they re gen paddles. he sad no I sad you are joking so these are gear changing paddles. his reply correct I told him I had invented these as I was sick of seeing re gen paddles. I mean what the heck. anyway my mate had listened to me about the EQC Mercedes well, you won't believe it, he's just ordered one. my car is a 1.6 turbo wild horses 216 full tank distance just under 600 miles Kia not the plug in the other type. plus I'm getting extra kit you can't buy and that is the same foot steps you see on the EQC bottom of the doors I don't no what you call them car has a missive panoramic roof with 2 power blinds how about that left indicator camera comes on right indicator camera on turn off the car the power seat automatically alters into position to dump you out getting back in turn on power seat automatically goes back to driving mode all hands free nothing to touch. wait for it I'm coming to the best bit if the car is in a tight space example can't get the door open I hot a button on the remote and the car comes to me how cool is that ordered a white with full black top. drop dead gorges just like my X girlfriend this car was not on my shopping list at all getting it this May I can hear the spanners at work full name Sportage 1.6T GDi 212 HEV GT-Line S 5dr Auto AWD Hybrid Estate. full paddle shift there is a setting driving on sand. I don't think I'm going to the beach any time soon snow off road terrain etc etc

I’ll add it to the list But it’s the same for any lithium-ion battery 🤓 Charger whenever you would like, but don’t keep them at 100% and 0% for long periods of time (like more than a week). As it’s a car it’ll be unlikely you’re doing that unless you go on holiday or something. Profiles vary across multimedia systems so if I get my hands on one again I’ll check it out!

@@npoleary Hi Nick, I have GLC300e Coupe Hybrid 2023/2024, and I usually drive all electric during the day in Stockholm, when I received the car the full charge was about 110KM, but now after I drove 2000KM with the car, My battery says 92KM with full 100% and around 77 KM with 80%, I charge my car everyday with 11KW charger and I charge it to 80% as a read on the internet that its better for battery and not to charge to100%, when I asked the dealer why this battery capacity/KM is getting lower everyday he said because of the cold weather in Stockholm -7-10+ degree and battery capacity/KM will go back to normal I.e between 100-110 Km per 100% charge, but I doubt that. The agent also said charge it to 100% everyday !! But I suspect this recommendation and 80% everyday is enough for me, when I get back after workdays battery usually have 20-25% left , then its gets its re-charge cycle. I have one issue that bathers me more, there is an option to change charging profile based on location (GPS) like Normarl, Home and Work, I save my Home address and connected it to Home Charge profile, but its not getting activated automatically when I charge at home, I have to go every time in the Me App and choose Home profile to activate it !! What I am missing here!!

Have you tried formatting the memory stick / or the device you’re using to save the footage on? I have to do this from time to time for my camera equipment and including my 3rd party dashcam. Also check to make sure the memory stick / external storage has fast data transfer speeds.

@@npoleary Hi Nick, no I have not tried re-formatting the memory stick because it has my music in the 'Music' folder, SCDB Speed Cams in the "POI' folder and the MB Dashcam in the 'POI' folder all on the same stick. There is however, a good reason for putting everything on the same stick because when I bought the car I had my music and SCDB cams on one stick and the MB dashcam on a second stick. However, MBUX does not work correctly with two separate sticks and this is well documented by users on the MB Forums. Lots of guys are saying that the MBUX system is in need of a software update to address this issue. Hope this helps, Mike

Ah yes Mike that’s right MBUX from day one back 2018 will only ever recognise one memory stick. It could be that you’re maxing out the read and write speeds on the memory stick. There’s 3 tasks going on there which might be a bit much for it. Sadly there’s no way to tell apart from if you experience issues like that. Trust me I’ve been there before, been filming and taking photos etc and the camera caught up with the read and write speeds of the memory card and I thought it had recorded something but it hadn’t. As I was talking to camera I didn’t notice the error message. I had to go and buy faster SD cards so there is a possibility that it could be that.

I will buy a faster memory stick and it should be no problem to drag and drop the music and the SCDB speed cams to the new stick after formatting to Fat 32. This is exactly why I wanted to re-visit this to see if there are any changes. Yes it would be good if like my Dynamic Select would retain the settings but sadly it will always reset to the default driving profile which in Mercedes is Comfort. Ah no it’s a one time purchase. Costs will most likely vary round the world, and if it changed in the future I would then have incorrect content on the video so decided not to draw too much attention to it. At the time I paid £200 which you can see on the screen at 20 seconds in.

I imagine getting into an accident knowing you spent the extra money for the dash cam yet forgot to switch it on at precisely the trip when you really needed it.

Just depends on the specification when the car was made. Maybe on the next one then? Or there’s 3rd party solutions? I plan to check some out later this year 🤓

It might be something to do with “on-board recording equipment”. That’s the thing that pops up the most when I researching it. I would love to know the exact reason why too!

Oh yes absolutely all Mercedes me Digital Extras stay with the car. Oh no! Well I don’t know on cars what would trigger the alarm (in terms of the severity of a crash) it must have been very small or possible even slow that’s probably why the alarm didn’t trigger. A small bump might not do it. You’ll have to ask Mercedes when they get back to you. Do you have any security cameras at home / doorbells / do your neighbours have any? I’m guessing you know the time so you can pin point roughly when it happened.

Thanks Nick for replying, it was quite a big impact, and No audible was triggerred. I have already aaked neighbours for their CCTV footage, and with no luck. I guess we'll have to wait for Mercesdes to reply. Thanks again Dave

Sadly not started that yet only posted the video last week I’m aiming to cover some 3rd party dashcams in a few months time I currently use a Nextbase one which is pretty good but I’ve not compared it to anything else yet

No sadly this dashcam is only recording when pressed on the screen here in the UK

It depends on the specification, it’s an Augmented Reality Camera on most cars like mine but depending on availability and where you live you can upgrade it to a dashcam again like what I did. This is only if you want to, check out the pros and cons and see if it’s worth it for you compared to a 3rd party one 🙏

Oh nice! Lifespan of screens? Not sure I’ve ever had anyone on my channel ever ask 😅 I mean screen technology in any device like that is usually rated for 4-5 years (I should add that’s constantly on without switching off, according to sources online). Regardless of where a screen is, TV, monitor, laptop, or a screen in a car that’s a very very long time as you wouldn’t use a screen on anything 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It’ll probably outlast other things in a car! 😅

@@npoleary okay great good to know. Yeah the reason I ask is because everything is mostly screens now TVs PC monitors laptops cell phones so I never know how long these are really meant to last because we upgrade them every 1 to 5 years but I plan to keep my car over 10 or as long as possible

Ah thanks for sharing Paul, oh no what a horrible thing that happened to you :( Sadly no 360° cameras are just parking cameras they don’t record. They’re located on the outside so wouldn’t be suitable, they’d get dirty from the road! Glad I helped explain it all though! Happy New Year to you too!

Just depends what you selected when you bought it (if it was from new). Some cars have increased prices for other things, like being All-Electric (due to their battery and electric motors.) I’d love to go for one by the way, maybe my next car! But of course specs change and vary over time, I do recall reading in the comments on my channel that it wasn’t available for a while due to the semiconductor shortage (thankfully that’s hopefully gone now!) If you chat to Mercedes they can let you know if it’s back again if you decide to change.

The in-built one, although it's pretty annoying having to remember to turn it on at every start.

If it’s a new one it’s most likely going to be 1080p but check with Mercedes to be 100% sure!
