This is a detailed video showing how to repair and install a front bumper on the Mercedes R107 SL.
We used a bull nose carbide burr to grind out the rust on the back of the chrome sections, and sprayed Eastwood rust encapsulator to seal and protect the back of these sections against rust in the future.
The steel sections and the brackets were heavily rusted and pitted so we sent them off to Bristol Motorcycle Powder Coating with good results. www.bristolmot....
At the end of the video, we show where we got all the nuts and bolts from and the various sizes you will need.

Another great video, very detailed. One suggestion, using Muggy weld or super alloy 1 low temp solder on the pitted areas will give the surfaces smooth look. I do this before power coating or painting.

Another great video. One suggestion is to use Muggy Weld or Super Alloy 1 on the pitted areas to give a smooth flat surface, then powder coat or paint.

Hi - I just checked out Harrington Group and that seems like a reasonable price. Rivet nuts....now there's a good idea I didn't think of. Thanks for all your input - it is really useful to other subscribers who read these comments. Now onto the fuel pump assembly rabbit hole....

Thanks for you comment...next up the fuel pump assembly rabbit hole. None of the fuel hose sizes seem to match with filter/pump/damper....oh the joys! Mike

Not sure if I’m missing something but when you took the old rear brackets off they looked like they were angled in the opposite direction to the way you replaced them? You say they point up towards the chrome. Wouldn’t that place the bumper lower down on the car, mine appear to be the other way up slightly raising the bumper position. I’m confused which is correct regards Nick

Hi - don’t forget that if you lay the bumper down so that the number plate is facing up, the brackets will be angled in the opposite direction. Mike
