Mercedes Sprinter Adventure Van DIY Rear lift kit for only £80 .
Looking into how expensive Adventure Van Sprinter rear lift kits are, i decided to make my own, after a lot of research i made two blocks of alloy and brought 5 ton u bolts, 4x4 anti roll bar links and fitted.
After 4 weeks driving around the kit i made works perfectly.
I was worried about the rear brake flexi hoses but they dont rub as the rear suspension has settled back down.
DIY LIFT KIT
Parts used
Febi 5 ton U bolts

Good morning everyone, great job, I have the 4x4 312d and it is almost identical. It can actually be done without any problem.

Nice job, well done. I purchased my lift kit from van concept in Poland, £500. Much cheaper than van compass. But to be fair you don't need a lift kit to drive around any tarmac in Scotland unless your way overloaded...😂 Lived here my whole life. Never needed a lift kit

Luckily my van isn’t over loaded, but at the time in the isle of sky but my tow bar nipped the track roads as it quite low, but now with the lift kit, its perfect, i just had a mot and the van weighs 3272kg so still got some head room of the 3500kg. good job i got rid of the super heavy AGM battery 🤣🤣🤣

Hi just came across this video. I fitted Jones 2+1 rear springs giving similar lift and it reduced the travel of the rear shocks eventually breaking one just prior to an MOT. My solution at Mercedes main dealer was to use the heavy duty Monroe shocks they sell as in comparison to the standard shocks they are around 25mm longer. I've not had any issue since.

I did try and find a shackle kit, but wasn’t very successful, I just remember the old skool way 🤣🤣🤣
@tecnology-today
@tecnology-today 2 года назад
The shackles way is not suitable for the Sprinter. The Sprinter uses the shackles upwards, so, longer means less height (and anyway there ir not room at all for it). What is posible is to install the shackles upside-down, and in such case you get an inmediate superlift using the same shackles. I have been working in automotive re-engineerong for more than 20 years specially in suspensions, and I know everything going off the OEM setups have the negative effect (the more, the more...). Thanks for sharing the P/N

Thatcher well deserved mate. Spot on. I just finished watching your air bags video and come accross another person who had the same problem you had. I then went to look at Creg Virgos air suspension kit. I am really puzzled right now, add spring leaves, airbags or go your way. Could you shed some light on why no airbags? And could I be cheeky to ask for your help in sourcing those alloy blocks? I am London based but happy to meet up anywhere... I will truly appreciate your help and guidance. I have just redid my van to a spec I am happy with but It pains me to see a a low suspension :(
@ProjectCamper
@ProjectCamper 2 года назад
No airbag suspension as Mercedes didn’t design any stress points on the chassis, just look at the leaf spring out riggers they are well capable of larger springs, just think about snapping a bit of wood over your knee, your hands holding the wood are the out riggers, the wood is the leaf spring and your knee is the stress point, ie the air bag mounts, now snap the wood, that’s the chassis. Some air bag companies mount the bags using a cradle type mount, slightly better but only used as a assistant, but still not the best way. Better springs or blocks as Mercedes used to sell as a kit. Mercedes never made a airbag system for the panel vans, only the chassis cabs, ie flat beds, ambulances, and motor home chassis. Not panel vans . I asked Mercedes technical department for commercial vehicles just so I got it right. 👍

Hi great idea mate. Can I ask a huge favour? Could you measure from the bottom of the floor to the bottom of your Diff box after you have now raised the back end? I want to fit a 220V Air condition split unit. If there is enough room I will cut a hole in the floor reinforce it around the hole in the floor I will then install the condenser of the AC unit in the space. I know a portion of the condenser will stick up above the floor but I will work round that.

It's great what you have done. I've just been watching some front Sprinter Van Compass lift kits being fitted on RU-vid and when lifting the front of the vehicle, they extend the steering shaft and the power steering hose. They also drop extension blocks under the subframe, engine mount, shock absorbers and gearbox. Do you think you could fabricate blocks for all these different areas and be able to but a steering rack extension and do this yourself? The Van Compass kits are silly money plus I don't think 2" is a lot and think a 3" lift is better and Van Compass only make the 2" lift. The 4x4 Sprinters are 3 inches higher than the usual vans. Your 8cm rear lift is a good lift. I wish you success in doing the front. If you can do an 8cm lift on the front then it will be great. What company did your friend use to have his van lifted and how high was the lift and what did it cost? I'm curious.
@ProjectCamper
@ProjectCamper 2 года назад
I will just fit the 5 ton front sprint as that lifts the front, no faffing with the subframe or rack then. 👍👍
@peterthegoodboy1
@peterthegoodboy1 2 года назад
@@ProjectCamper I know you can change the leaf springs on the rear to those from a five ton to achieve a van lift. Are you going to change the front leaf spring to get the same result? I'm unsure if you are talking about a five ton leaf spring. And if so, will you have to extend the steering rack?
@ProjectCamper
@ProjectCamper 2 года назад
@@peterthegoodboy1 hi there ,sorry yes just the front spring as you dont have to extend the steering as your not changing the distance between the chassis and the subframe,its the same as the rear, just on the front. The van compasses lifts the chassis with spacers so the steering also has to be done, Mercedes just use the spring to give a lift, the VC is way over complicated not to mention expensive, when Mercedes have a massive parts bin and good used parts on Ebay from ambulance's and the 518, chassis cab sprinters etc.

Hi! Do you have dimensions of the blocks? Lenght and width, height is not important. Also pin dimension and hole dimension and depth would be perfect to pre-prepare blocks without double-disassembling
@ProjectCamper

Hi there as mentioned in the video the blocks are as wide as the springs the blocks are 80mm high and as long as the u bolt plates with a very small amount out over hang ( about 10 mm each way) the dimple size was the same as the spring, just drilled out with a cone cutter into the block. 👍👍

@whetstonen205 Год назад
Hi thanks for the video, great work. What were the dimensions of each of the ali blocks that you used?
@ProjectCamper
@ProjectCamper Год назад
Basically the width was the same as the spring as it has to fit between the u bolts, the length was about 20mm long than the plate on the axle to give it some slight overlap and the height if I remember was around 80mm, as the brake flexi hose still has to sit over the top of the spring, if you go the full 90mm you will have to replace the hoses with longer ones as when to suspension is in compression ( ie going up) may touch the flexi hose and damage it, hence the measurement explained in the video 👍👍
