It is great how you succinctly demonstrate every step in the process. You make it look so easy. I look forward to many more videos from you. I can use the help. Thanks
Thank you Mitch I really appreciate your positive feedback and thank you for watching my channel and soon I will put new videos in this platform thank you for watching
as sprinter specialist, to all who watched this video! changing engine oil or gear oil or wheel disc's & brakes at home step by step indeed gonna save you money like so much money ,aye no mercy on sprinter job at dealershit company's, i worked on 2016 v6 sprinter i only did engine oil change + oil filter +fuel filter + air filter +cabin air filter and the customer got charged with 1030$, while it all maximum gonna cost's him 350 $ at home
That’s is the best way to do that procedure on your van. You get all the fluid out that way with the help of the engine and the pressure it generates to push it out. And doing it that way is better also because you don’t have as many failure points either. Great job captain Navigate safely Will
Goodmorning Will and i agree with you This is the most effective and best way I know how to do this And thank you for watching My 2nd channel captain have a nice day😉👍⚓️
Great video, thanks for your excellent work. Any tip putting the cotter pin back over that hose. I've done everythung but had no luck with that today, giving up for now and will try again in the am.
@robertneilson4047 is a little hard but take your time and be careful because is very easy to drop, I hope you can get ot done in the morning, have a great night And thank you for watching
I followed your steps on my 2010 2500 sprinter for the transmission fluid change and flush this am Thanks for the great video Got it done struggled on the reinstall of the pan with the cross bar in the way, eventually I put a jack under transmission and raised it just a few inches and that allowed sufficient clearance Another tip When you do the flush from the top when using the clear hose method mine popped off and made a mess I then held it on and had no issues completing the drain until it changed colors with the new fluid like the video shows.
@@mercedessprinterdiy8556very good video I really appreciate it I'm going to try to find the size of the plastic line you slide into the radiator to flush it. I'm sure it's here somewhere and if it's an Amazon link that'll work for me too. Great video
@@mercedessprinterdiy8556 thank you I did my service on the transmission. It was wonderful it worked great I used the 3/8 line. I have a really great mechanic friend. He does all my large truck mechanicking. Told me you don't have to really put it in gear to flush so I did it all by myself. I put the 3/8 hose into the drain pan and clamped it with a spring clip. Went back and started the engine went out and watch the oil flush through thethe torque converter and cooler. As soon as The color changed😊 I ran back and shut the engine off. Bam done 👍 worked beautiful . thank you for the video.. and help.. and the reply. Truck is running phenomenal now gracias‼️
Loved the way you did this so professionally I took mine to the dealership They charged me 700$ For filter and they added 3 quarts Of fluid Never flush Like you did Man I wish I can have someone like you to do a fluid change Your not anywhere near Chicago are you lol 😆
Another flush procedure that I use is through the drain screw in the torque converter. there is an access hole for the torque conv in the transmission casing closed with a rubber cap. You need to turn the engine through the crank pulley to align the screw hole with the little opening hole. use an allen key to remove the screw in the torq conv and let the oil drain completely. Put the screw and tighten it then proceed to fill the new oil. Add around 6 quarts and run the engine and do the cycle of D then R a few times. now Drain the pan through the drain plug and refill with new fluid... it will take another 4 - 5 quarts. drive the van for few minutes and check the fluid level and top it up as required.
He mentioned that in his video but his method is much better much less work it's very difficult to get to that Allen screw. And you don't get all the fluid out I believe you use much more fluid for much less cleanliness. I'm all for the flush method it looks actually pretty darn easy. It looks much easier than the other method Wish me luck I'm going to do it Friday or something soon as my parts come in
👍 I guess this is 5spd trans. 7spd trans on the 4cyl vans has quite a few differences...no dipstick capability, the trans pan bolts are aluminum shear bolts so u cant overtighten, and MB fluid (blue usually), capacity is about 10liters.
This right here. We are being told the fluid amount is 7.5 quarts when it's really 9.7 liters. In fact, Europarts-SD has the kit for the 7G Tronic that comes with 10 liters of fluid. I was wondering why the amount here was different from the info I have. Either way, a great video, and keep up the good work!
@@ebierke I also have a 2.1L, 7spd. Did you happen to do the same transmission flush as in the video? If so do u need to add more than 10 liters to make up for the loss during the flush? Like u mentioned, there's no dipstick access.. ty
Thank you for one of the best repair and maintenance videos out there. I think you have the gift of teaching, because you can see things from the learner's perspective. Seriously, though, most other RU-vidrs are more about showcasing themselves than about the needs of the viewer. I especially appreciate that you have ambient sound and don't fill every space with background "music." I can tell that you put a lot of thought and work into your video with all the camera angles and detail and careful editing. That's a lot of work, and I know you can't detail every single thing, but what you show in just 15 minutes is amazing. Super concise, super informative, all useful stuff, so it's not boring. May I ask a question?: I bought at 2006 T1N Sprinter with about 176,000 miles on it. The service records say it had the transmission fluid changed by Jiffy Lube at about 172,000 miles, BUT it says they used ""synthetic versatrans CVT plus global ATF." I think I found this ATF online as "Phillips 66 VERSATRANS® CVT PLUS FLUID" (phillips66lubricants.com/product/versatrans-cvt-plus-fluid/). The information sheet for this ATF says "continuously variable transmissions, as well as step-type automatic transmissions." I couldn't find any standards, licenses, or approvals for it. My van now has about 179,000 miles on it and started doing the Rumble Strip Noise ("RSN") thing about 500 miles ago (The following video is an extreme example; mine isn't nearly this bad and happens only occasionally: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cU0IkZxoWdY.html). Here is a fix for RSN that I've seen a lot online: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jfVGh-_2WDo.html. Could you please let me know your opinion about the following? 1) Do you think the Phillips 66 VERSATRANS® CVT PLUS FLUID is bad for my transmission or is causing my Rumble Strip Noise? 2) What do you think about the "fix" in the video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jfVGh-_2WDo.html)? Thank you, again, for a great video and all of your hard work!
Great video and like the others have said, you do a great job demonstrating how to DYI your van service. After watching your van video, I'm going to try and tackle my transmission fluid change and flush myself. I have a little over 60,000 miles on it and I feel it is time. One item I don't see on your list of links is the funnel. Can you send me a link to the funnel you used that seems to fit the tubing you recommended? Thank you.
Hello and thanks so much for watching my videos and im sorry i dont have the link of the funnel because it came with my generator purchase and i looked at Amazon for you but i couldn't find it , and thanks again for watching
@@mercedessprinterdiy8556 if you could be so kind to let me know what size the tubing is that would be great sorry I asked that on another comment also I don't mean to be repeating myself I apologize
can you use an air compressor to flush all the remaining fluid? what you did seems risky, if the other guy does not turn off the engine on time you could ruin the transmission
Great video. I have a 2010 170 passenger style. Do you or anyone out there know if there's less clearance between the pan and cross-member than with the, 4WD?
Great Video. I need to do this soon on my 2021 Sprinter 2500. What year and size is the engine in this video? You also mentioned providing the links to the items you used? I don't seem to see them. Thanks.
Can this type of flush by running the engine and using the cooler line be done to a 2019 2500 Sprinter with a 7 speed? I know the fill has to be done through the drain pan due to the sealed transmission.
On 7spd, i drained the pan and pulled the tiny bolt in the torque converter, let it drain overnight and nearly the full capacity came out. To refill, i used 10ft of clear hose and a nipple adapter to the drain plug, and i gravity-fed fluid simply by having the container higher than the trans.
What transmission fluid did you use? What plastic tubing did you use? (Home Depot plastic tubing) It is not listed in the description, amazon made you remove it. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!
I notice the front wheels up on ramps. Are the rears also on ramps? Or is the vehicle sloping? If sloping, how does this effect the "level" of fluid with regard having the correct amount in after the draining of the excess?
To "torque in" a bolt doesn't mean to just make it tight! You have to look up torque specifications for bolts and use a torque wrench. Also, you have to drain the torque converter! Pan bolts 6 foot pounds Torque converter drain 10 foot pounds Pan drain 6 foot pounds
Very true but wen you do this all the time you learn how to tight the bolts but if you feel that you need one i recommend you to get one so you are safe ,me i have never had a problem, thanks for watching 👍
Thank you for the excellent video. I will say you made it look very easy compared to how it went for me. Maybe just great editing 😂. Of course today my retainer clip flew off into the engine compartment and I will need to find a new one, hopefully it will benefit others when I find a replacement. Best regards.
Wow , sorry to hear that , and yes , that clip is really a trip to get it out without flying around , I hope you find it and get it installed. And thank you for watching I hope for the best for you.
Hello. We recently purchased a 2015 Adventurous TS (2014 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Diesel chassis with automatic transmission) with 30k miles on a trip from Oregon to So. Cal and noticed driving when driving usually 65 mph+, it downshifted by itself to 4th gear. Sometimes, momentarily shifting into Neutral and back to Drive, would fix the issue. But a few times it lost the ability to accelerate and we had to pull over and idle or shut off the engine for 10-15 minutes, presumably to cool down the transmission. Then it would run normally. Also, when driving 55mph lower, we didn't see the problem. Have you seen this before? If so, any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your input.
@@mercedessprinterdiy8556 , It doesn't matter the type of engine. Only the type of automatic gearbox matters, which in this case is (5-speed) Type: 722.6 ....this type: 722.6 is mounted on all (automatic gear box) Sprinter (W906_from year 2016 until 2012), ...and also on C-class (W203 and some W204), E-class (W210 and some W211), and other types of Mercedes, like some Vito, Viano, ML. Mercedes Europe recommends changing the ATF oil in the automatic gearbox (Typ 722.6) at 37,000 miles (60,000 km) at the latest
Thanks for this video! Because I stumbled across it, I gave it a thumbs up and I also subscribed! I got a question for you, maybe you could answer? I often thought about putting an external cooler for my 2016 sprinter, where you added the hose, would that be a good place to add an external cooler? If not do you know where? Thanks again for the video!
@@mercedessprinterdiy8556 Adrenaline Vans in Montrose Colorado has a Transmission Cooler/Fan set up.... I have it on my 2018 4x4 Sprinter... It has a manual switch or kicks on automatically via a thermostat at 170 degrees.
Thanks a million for this video. When you run the engine forward and reverse, are you just engaging the gear but keeping wheels still? Or are you jacking rear wheels and allowing them to spin?
hello Trev what i do is just putting it in gear only that is all you need to do, no need to move the van is just to activate the transmission ,thanks for watching cap
Hi what's reliability of the 5 speed gearbox in Sprinter ? Also what is your recommendation / experience for 3.0 319 cdi with 5 speed automatic transmissions please ? Thanks
Well the 5 speed transmission i feel is better for my towing of my 5000 lbs boat and trailer i have not tested the new 2023 models yet witch the have a bigger gearbox
Great video. This is the first video that I've seen showing to flush ATF through the hose port. Does this procedure remove the ATF that's in the torque converter? Thanks for all the tips & info.
@@mercedessprinterdiy8556 So, to maximize the amount of fresh ATF it would make sense to flush with the tube & also drain the torque converter, right? Thanks,
Hello nice work. I want to do same to my sprinter. One question this method will flush including the torque converter . Or i have to empty the torque converter add transmission fluid and then start the engine and flush the system. Thank you
@@mercedessprinterdiy8556pthank you for your reply. i understand is not about amount of oil is that the sprinter has a little shaking .and i thought that the oil in torque converter was not changed along with the oil in the gearbox. Not flushing either the gearbox. Maybe if i will flush it it will get rid of the most oil that is old.
