I used to own one from 1988 D250. Than sold it and got an E320 diesel from 1994, full options in around 2002-2009. Boy, I still have nostalgia for that car. Unbreakable car, I swear. Tires, oil changin and thats it. Put as triple weight limit and still running. A beast. Unfortunately, the new ones are less durable then this ones. Mad respect bro for sharing this video.
Beautiful cars man.. W124 is my favorite Mercedes body. Grew up seeing them on the streets. Fell in love with them since then. Timeless design. Even now it still looks beautiful.
I ve got 2 Merc's. Rusty buckets both. W210 320cdi2000 elegance in blue and w210 240 petrol 2001 elegance in silver. I love them. They fast, comfy, cheap to fix, parts from eBay and labouring my self.
Very beautiful cars. I have 1990 e300. I love this cars, because i think they represents perfection of engineering. well also because i love mercedes!👍😀 Unfortunately i have a lot of work to make it beautiful again. In my country is terrable weather and road maintenance, also i use my car every day so to keep it in good shape is quite hard here...
I realize this video is 4 years old. I want to add that 500E are great and awesome cars Mercedes and Porsche came out with. I would gladly trade/swap my E55 with one of these if I can find one that's in great shape. :)
Nice video...I recently purchased an '88 W124 300E....Love it, but plan on lowering it a bit and putting some AMG 17" Monoblocs on it....106K miles on it and drives like a dream.
So many BMW videos on youtube and so few MB videos (the older cars)... I don't understand it.... Finaly a nice (longer than 1 min/ non Slavic) w124 video! Thanks 2phast! Is Merc just less popular than BMW on yt? Has anybody else noticed this too yet? I'm planning on buying a w123 or w124 wagon in a month or so... but the biggest amount of vids on yt are about restoring e30's....
Wow, I am in WA and I own a 92 W124 500E in the Smoke Silver Color. I would love to meet up one day if you guys are close. I have been looking for people that own this car but its been really rare.
WOW! you still have the red beast? Man! I was "shadowgriffen" back in lik e05-08 in the MBworld forums. Man, you really impressed me back then, you still do! i know this ivd is three years old, but i just thought i'd give you props man. you are a true W124 fan! I still absolutely LOVE the w124!
Three black cars there on that day. The one next to Seans 500e is a E320 wagon and further up the driveway is a 1976 450SE 6.9. Sean is from Vancouver as well. Bring your car to the all German car show at Water Front Park, we will all be there.
at 23:30 I finally get to know the purpose of fog lights in the bumper. Standard W124 have fog lights integrated in main lights (the inner paraboles). So now I know the 500E has not double fog lights, but double high beam, which makes much more sense!
Funny thing is, here in Germany, halon in fire extinguishers is prohibited nowadays or its use is only allowed in (nuclear) power plants with a siemens plant, if i recall correctly. Today, you will only get foam, powder or CO2 extinguishers.
Now that is what you call an over view... excellent, really enjoyed that. Mercedes and Porsche.. a perfect marriage alright. And subbed... regards from Ireland. :)
None of the cars in the video are "show" cars, they are all daily drivers. I am sure your E320 cleans up well enough to bring it to the show. Most all of the Mercedes at these shows are drivers, not garage queens.
Not too many 500e's in the Seattle area, knew of a few but the owners have sold them. You should attended the MBCA car show at the Niles Country Club in August and also the MB shows put on by the Vancouver club. Especially the All German Car Show at Waterfront park. I have videos of both shows from last year on my channel.
i've always loved the 500e. i still have a copy of 'automobile' magazine when they featured this car on the cover exclaiming it was "like a drug!". sadly, i haven't had the opportunity to buy one. i had to make due with a '93 taurus sho and after that, a '02 subaru wrx, they were fun, too. what else do you drive?
I am very fond of these 500E's and a huge of them, i owned 3 1994-95 E420's very unique cars with great gas mileage and plenty of power. I know for a fact that the 500E is somewhat a gas guzzler but if you want a true and powerful sports sedan then spending a little more $ on that should not be an issue. This will be my next vehicle and i can not wait to get my hands on it :)))
i noticed the panel below or under side of the lightswitch is different on this car than on m car.....looks like the panel there has been "padded" ...or seems thicker as the moulding stands out more than original...is this because of it beeing Canadian/Usa spec?more "crash "safety features?the panel im talking about is at 12min 51 seconds....
+fuckinlowdowndrummer I can't speak for euro spec cars concerning all the differences, but the lower panels on the North American spec cars are knee bolsters, they are suppose to keep you in your seat during an accident (so you don't slide out from your seat belts, your knees hit the bolster)
+2phast Tactical yeah..that what it really looked like too..so..but thanx.cool:)Ive neever seen that before..and i guess i was right assuming it was a North American / even maybe American?because of more "strict regulations" spec....it kinda took me back to how the "American" bumpers kinda used to look..on both Mercedes"s and Porsches... cheers :)
there are around 2300 differences to make a 300E into a 500E, the rear lenses are pre 94 just smoked version, 94 did not have the square groves from left to right the where flat lense, i prefer the pre 94 as the 94 just looked weak and dull from the back, awsome cars dudes
Those are the OEM taillights. I had a '95 E320 and it had the exact same lights. Any tails that are flat and on a W124 are NOT Mercedes parts. They all had the grooves.
Tanner Young your wrong on that these lenses are before the face lift '86 to '93, the face lift models came with clear indicators all round, different bumpers manly the mouldings not wrapping all the way around the bumpers and colour coded, different grill, different headlights and rear lenses, rear lip moulding above and around numberplate, all oem mercedes, you had an E320 which is the face lift because otherwise it would of been a 300E, they never made a 320 before 93, it was either the 300E or 300 24v
yellowtwrk not much on the interior but massive differences to the body/chassis, wide arches front and rear, widened front suspension bells to allow the V8 to be fitted, around 2300 mods where needed to make a 500E/E500, 500E is pre face lift and the E500 is after 1993
thats exactly what i noticed, thank you.. well i have a 300e '86 can i put in a bodykit which looks similar to the 500e exterior? especially the widened arches
In countries that use a similar sized license plate, the cars would have this license plate panel and/or trunk. GermanSwiss bound vehicles would have the larger style to accommodate the longer license plate, but both countries have smaller versions of their plates (like the US plates) but I don't know when/if these were used during the 500e release years.
+2phast Tactical The Swiss usually use small plate's. I ask this because i'm maybe looking into importing a 500e from Japan. But am only interested in models that were originally imported to Japan from Europe. Saves me allot of money in import tax.
Waouh 28.5 rear tires haha are you seriues. That seems overkill? For the amount of horsepower and weight? How does that even fit. They are ment for something like an S600 with 2 tons and 500bhp.
Great car you have there i have a 94 W124 200E in my country its damn expensive to own a 5L engine i have to pay for a 5L engine tax=2017 Euro/Year and insurance=~1700E...
+racer98 That number is correct. Production ended in April of 1995 with the last car produced in September of 1995. These were not sent to the US, Canada, Japan or the UK.
Everything is for sale, if the price is right. Can't speak for Sean though, but if you are really interested in his (the silver one) I can pass your contact information on to him and you two can discuss.
