hey man, this is the fourth time that one of your videos saves me from a hefty mechanics bill, I am truly grateful to you. If one day we cross paths in Canada or New Zealand, where I live I owe you a few pints!!

Mate these are great videos! Been a bit unsure about playing with the brakes and what not. But your videos are awesome guides and clear up any doubt. Keep em coming! All the best from Germany!

yeah,there are springs that pull the shoes inwards at top and bottom, and also springs to hold the shoes to the brake backing plate
@fupabox
@fupabox 10 лет назад
Sorry didn't finish that reply.. if one of the springs is missing the shoes will either rub the inner brake drum, or the centre hub..either could cause damage by driving without replacing the spring

Very good video, allowed me to confirm that my w124 original break caliper where replace by w201 version. Wonder why ???

any idea on how to replace the parking brake (behind the rotor) when i was removing my rear rotors, a spring came flying out and looks like it was held in some kind of shoe. and now everytime i drive, i hear something hitting against another thing and it gets louder as i go faster. havent gone past 10mph because im scared itll be bad. and my ebrake pedal seems to not feel the same at all a lot more tension.

great videos! You've already saved me money and I have only owned my 97 C280 less than 3 days. lol. One comment though - I have changed pads and rotors on my 190E 2.6 for years and I have the actual shop manual. That shows the wear sensor on the inside pads. Seems odd seeing it stretched across the rotor to the outside pad like you have it. Just wondering.

Good point. Also if I’m not mistaken the inside pads tends to wear quicker than the outside one.

Hey Fupa, I replaced my front brake pads only, about 15k miles ago. About 8k miles ago, my front brakes are squeaking very terribly. It started when I would go into reverse. Sometimes the squeal happens when my foot isn't even on the brakes. I am assuming the caliper is seized up or something and its holding the brakes against the rotor. How should I go about to deal with this? I never put any anti squeal paste, but I did buy some Mercedes OEM anti squeal paste that I plan to put on the back of the brakes like you did. My car is a w210 e320 2001. The front pads do not have sensors on it.
@fupabox
@fupabox 8 лет назад
+joshlete Spray the pads and rotors down with brake cleaner.. brake dust can cause squeeling.. but the anti squeel will definitely work
@joshlete
@joshlete 8 лет назад
***** So I was wrong, it was the back pads that were replaces with Bosch pads with no sensors. The front do have sensors. I managed to clean the front side with brake cleaner and it got rid of a lot of squealing. I still get a tiny bit, and a bit more when going backwards. But definitely more manageable. Gonna have to try to clean the other side. Do you know of a good detailed tutorial on how to take off the front w210 brake pads for 2001? The DIY in the sticky thread of benzworld.com doesn't show it too detailed.

G'day from Germany again! I've waited for it to start snowing before hitting the rear brakes. I was told by the guy at the local parts store that the rear cylinder can't just be pushed back in with normal clamps. You need to have a special set or something because the cylinder rotates? Any ideas? Thanks again!
@fupabox
@fupabox 10 лет назад
I know some cars use a different method of retracting the rear caliper pistons {Mazda caliper pistons rotate as they retract..Honda uses a set screw) The w202 uses a dual piston rear caliper..both pistons just push straight back in..Actually I just did a video today and am uploading it at the moment ,of replacing rear brake pads on the w208 which is almost the exact same as the w202..I retracted both pistons with a C clamp..you can also just gently pry them away from the rotor with a screwdriver..

Fupa ! If i dont use a torque wrench for this job. But test every bolt when i release them so i get an idea of the strength i need to make to put them back on. Im a monster if i do this? Of i should have no problem? pd: You are the best.

Hi fupabox, what are the torque strength in ft-lb for the 18mm bolts and the big rotor nut for clk320? Thanks in advance.
@fupabox
@fupabox 8 лет назад
+Sherab Puntsok the 18mm main caliper bolts are 85 ft lbs. the 2 smaller bolts that hold the caliper slider pins are 16 ft lbs "big rotor nut " do you mean the wheel bearing retainer nut with the allan key pinch bolt ?
@sherabpuntsok2418
@sherabpuntsok2418 8 лет назад
+fupabox Yes, please.
@fupabox
@fupabox 8 лет назад
Sherab Puntsok The bearing nut has no torque spec.. it is an adjustment best done with a dial gauge. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OOj5WbrXQZE.html

did the person who called at 14:00 know why you should use thread locker? thanks for the vid, i'll be tackling this tomorrow
@fupabox
@fupabox 9 лет назад
je2fe2 lol.. never noticed that...Mercedes actually does recommend thread locker on the brake pad sensor ..Mercedes mechanic I talked to said they do it because their manual says to..

It is usually to prevent the fasteners from coming undone due to vibrations. You know: potholes, corrugated roads, out-of-balance wheels...

hey fupa.. had a question to run by ya. let's say i wanted to replace front pads and rotors on a w210. how long do you think think it should take me to bang out the job?
@fupabox
@fupabox 10 лет назад
20 mins to 1/2 hour per side if everything goes well

Hey, is it necessary to bleed the brakes when replacing just the pads ?
@fupabox
@fupabox 10 лет назад
Rodrigo Garcia no..just check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir..it cab fill up a lot when the caliper is retracted and may spill over...sometimes you have to remove a bit of fluid to keep the level correct after retracting the caliper

The 18 mm bolts are a pain in the ass to remove, no wonder your camera stopped there ;) I tried everything wd40. torching, a longer wrench .. nothing worked if you don't have an impact , don't do it guys

@gasbaroni
@gasbaroni 7 лет назад
I got the right side off by using a big ratchet, wd40 and a torch, but I couldn't get the left side off because the bolt is the oposite direction. I'm gonna buy a small sledgehammer and a big ratchet tomorrow and try again.

Indeed, fortunately I have a Milwaukee impact wrench with me, that it's the one can up to 300 NM, according to sepc it should to be torqued at 115 NM, but when you remove it, seems need much more torque than that.. (as my another small impact wrench, up to 130 NM couldn't do anything to the bolt... just for your reference guys.

I have had really good luck with Centric high carbon rotors and ceramic pads from rockauto.. prob. $250 or so for all the parts

fupabox ceramic better then semi metallic ?
@fupabox
@fupabox 6 лет назад
I like them better because they make no brake dust , and they cause very little wear on the rotors.. I would say the rotors can easily last through 3 sets of ceramic pads..I find the ceramic pads need replacing just a bit more often than metallic, but the trade off is almost zero rotor wear.

Why did you switch sides? It's obvious you don't know whar you're doing. One side you took 2 18mm bolts out almoste first and then you switched sides and took them out later. IS IT TOO FRICKIN COLD FOR YOU?
@fupabox
@fupabox 10 лет назад
I explained in the annotation..the camera battery died while doing the first side..I finished it while the battery charged and tried to continue from the same place on the second side...Obvious I don't know what I'm doing ? If you know that,why did you need to watch the video ?
