Mercedes C220 CDI OM611 Thermostat fault.
Thermostat leak causing low engine temperatures. Reduced efficiency and power.
Hard to find part.
Australia mercedes had none and they wanted $200 plus shipping

I have the same model: nearly 50k Km now Temp is less than 80 never above and blows smoke on acceleration badly..When Cold start the engine jerks the gear box changes for a while and fuel consumption is also up. to 5.3. Use to be 4.6 long trip 100 Km . Round town is about 7.5 now and as high as 9 on cold starts. I have suspected thermostat. Manual give no guidance nor does Mercedes. Computer shows lots faults, but engine is running ok, jut rich. Typical glow plugs failure this age. Thanks the Video... and the tips about the torx bolts. I have suspected this a while. Im off to find a new one like you have.

You also need to bypass the little cooler at the top and by pass another hose. Email me benzperformanceparts@outlook.com And ill send photo back. Iv done heaps more testing after this video.

I had the same problem with the same engine. Car would take hours to reach normal operating temps. Just replaced the thermostat and that fixed it. Easy fix.

Hey, i have a C200 CDI with an OM611.962 (same engine). I watched this video a couple months ago, because i had to drive for over an hour to get the engine to operating temperature. This is a low milage engine and i figured that i should try changing the thermostat if that was the problem. And it was! The old thermostat looked new but didnt function properly. After 2-3 hours of figuring out how to change it without damaging anything, the new thermostat was mounted in its place. That was the time i noticed that there were no threads in the new part haha. I want to thank you for making this video, keep it up!

After making this i also redirected one of the small lines out of the thermostat so it T joins into the header tank and by-passes the radiator. This was because the water pump water pushing water around and through the radiator with the thermosat closed .also c Keeping the temp down. I aslo bypassed the extra water cooler at the front. If you email me i will send you photo to explain it. I get 85c within a short drive now. Never have head problems

@@benzperformanceparts3762 my problem was that the temp was too low, the thermostat was stuck open somehow. The car has been running great ever since i changed it and i've even felt a performance difference.

@@Doomskilled mine got to temp after a new thermostat but would still take half and hour or so. Now with the other mods it take 10 mins. Email me if you want me to send you some pics

Easy and cheap fix is use Gates TH01483 thermostat. (Renault CxJ-engine) Just put it in between the upper coolant hose and thermostat housing. Works perfectly and takes only 5 mins.

Have you done this modification? Are you saying that this thermostat is put between the upper coolant house and thermostat housing while keeping the original thermostat and housing on the engine as it is?

Hello sir , The Temperature in my car in the town just 50c until 60C in the heyway not above 40C Should i replace also the Thermostat ?

Hello Sir, I hope you're doing fine. I've replaced the thermostat with Behr/Mahle (i believe OEM) but the temperature still won't go past 80 (it went at almost 100 at first try after the replacement) now even on the highway for 1 hour i barely get above 80⁰c. Any tips ?

I have very cold engine temp and also no hot air coming in the cabin - will this solve both problems?

Yes without the thermostat working the car won't get the water temperature up to make hot air in the cabin. I also bypassed the oil-water cooler that sits Infront of the radiator. It has 2 small hoses attached under the radiator. Then I put a T junction into the small pipe that comes out of the thermostat and feed it into the pipe that his back into the header tank. I now get the proper 85c temps

@@benzperformanceparts3762 Why having to do that? Didn't you solve the problem by just changing your thermostat? Or does the bypass adds more efficiency to the optimal engine temperature?
