Mercedes W211 headlight switch cover/knob removal

I had a hard time removing the cosmetic cover from the headlight switch because the knob must be removed first. This shows the inside of the switch and how to unlock the clips in order to remove the knob on the switch.
The headlight switch cover is made from some kind of sticky material and I'm not aware of a way to fix it; replacement is the best option and only takes 10-15 minutes once you know what you're doing.

Thank you for the super detailed explanation! Why Mercedes use such bad plastic, and made this required task is beyond me for such an expensive car.

One more quick comment/improvement to the video. This video really helped me a lot, but if the entire pieces all together when you turn the knob to the right - only pull out one click not two, two-clicks blocks the hole again. And it’s not really evident at first, but you have to find the hole on the bottom by pushing through the sticker. If you just pull out to one click, you should get this done in five minutes.
