The front diff lock lever on our 1983 300gd would not rise nor activate. It was physically jammed. Suspicious, I ordered a new front diff lock master cylinder and replaced it. I couldn't find much info on this so put a video together if of help. I am no mechanic, so do as you see fit! You can get repair kits for the master cylinders near the transfer case, only the front was available new, the rear is no longer available. The supplied master cylinder had a fitting which was not on the old one, and remove it if yours doesn't have it on the existing one! Its not an easy job, and I cant imagine how long it would take without a hoist. Order a new plastic F piece when you do it in case you snap it when you remove it from the master cylinder, as you wouldn't be able to put it in after I believe. After all this (5 hours!), the lever worked but no fluid would bleed out of the front slave cylinder so I sill have to figure out where the fluid blockage is (most annoying!). *In the end, the front blockage was due to the front hose, which I replaced, and to a lesser extent the bleeder valve which I also replaced* the front locker is working nicely now!
