For me the greatest 'nation building' song of Trnindad and Tobago ever, ever! ...... Discipline, Tolerance and Production.... To build a strong and better nation, I say.. That is the main foundation So, come let us work hand in hand Because this is our land Come my brother, come my sister Let us build a nation together
A truly national classic. The lyrics are strong; the musicians world class. The riffs throughout and instrumental ramajé at the end showcased the power of our musicians and the arranger/composer. RIP Merchant. God bless our nation.
This song was composed by Merchant in response to the disunity caused in T&T by some political parties during 1981 general elections campaign that was brought on by the sudden death of Prime Minister Eric Williams on 29th March 1981. I believe this song was recorded in Trinidad in 1982 and was released that year on the Network Productions label. The Merchant died after a long period of suffering, abandoned and forgotten by his fellow citizens. A genius who never received his deserved rcognition during his lifetime.
Thank you bro - yuh know how long ah looking for this - mih heart duhs grieve for de days when we artists was also but ideas for we and we society - Merchant, Shadow, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh - we now only bombarded by partiers, feters, winers. Any way thanks, I just biased, yuh see de plantation brought our ancestors as people who were viewed as lesser than people - i still preoccupied with overturning de plantation sistem - still in virile and dominant!
