I took my boat out last two weeks and tune it up, new battery, new fluids I had family and friends come in town last night and planned to hang at the lake all day today and guess what. Dan: Thank you so much! I followed your recommendations, found a very loose wiring cable, greased as directed, reinstalled and clamped it down. Problem solved. Just one add on. My cable was loose, but not disconnected. I suggest people mark the alignment with a contrasting magic marker. This will make it easier to align on reconnection. Thanks again. God Bless!
Thanks mate, I've been to 2 mechanics trying to troubleshoot intermittent starting, one said change the solenoid (did that) one said change the ignition barrel (did that) still no good. Found your vid, jiggled the harness and presto she starts 👍👍
Thanks so much for sharing this, I was going crazy trying to find out why no crank but after watching your video it took me right to the problem, wiring harness unplugged. Last time on the lake it was so rough I could only get to 10 mph so I guess all that bouncing up and down loosen the connection
Great video, I will be checking this ASAP! My problem is randomly it would crank, and then it won't? I Replaced the ignition switch, starter, and solenoid, and problem is still there from time to time. I'm suspecting this might be it!! Thanks Bro!
So if I use your trick and it turns the starter and all wires are good do I need to replace that realy/breaker? or should I try to bend the same prongs as well
what all wires go to the starter? I just got this boat and I have 4 wires close to the starter, that I'm not sure where they go. one is orange one is red and 2 black wires. my current symtoms are....I have brand new battery but I'm not getting power to the starter or the ignition.
Thank you for taking the time to make the video. I have a 1993 Celebrity Sport Cruiser and I make a whining sound and then a little flutter sound, The engine does not crank over like yours did. Any thoughts on where to start? Thanks
If your turning the key to start it and it's making a noise or clicking sound check your battery and battery connections first. Then you can test the rest of the parts like in the video.
I have a 5.0MPI and the starter solenoid is bad. how do you access and remove the bolt on the far side of the solenoid? the circuit breaker reset is in the way and you cant get a socket to it. there has to be a trick or a special tool. any help is a most appreciated. thanks
@@ozer1980 I did but it took all of my tools and my neighbors to find the exact wrench that fit into the location. It was very difficult to loosen 1/10 of a turn at a time and just as difficult to tighten. Even a mobile boat mechanic I talked to said he has a hard time replacing them.
@@BaskervilleNC I just did the starter relay swap on my 305 and it took me 5 minutes. The back bolt was accessible with a 1/4 socket. Not sure why yours was any different. Circuit breaker wasn't really in the way
Disconnected the two wires from it and did a continuity test with a multimeter, touch one wire from the switch to the wire on the meter and the same with the other ,press the metal tab on the switch and listen for the beep. If no beep it's not working. Or check your meter.
