I have been contemplating the issue with the prop providing the pressure that keeps the gears engaged, and it may not be enough pressure. But more importantly, when you put the boat in reverse, any play will cause the gears to pull apart instead of pushing them together, which could actually cause them to skip teeth. They could completely strip out.
Thanks for watching, we appreciate your kind words. Is your drive an alpha one Gen 1? Do you have a part # to the rubber ring you’re referring too? No part 8 however a huge amount of additional helpful DIY videos to come. 😎👍
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders 278M0204656 - GASKET is the quicksilver number. I have a alpha 1 gen 2. Maybe the gen 1’s don’t use that but I think they do. I’m still at a loss as to the exact location it lands on and is it glued? Thank you so much if you are able to help me. These vids are by far, the best on you tube out of any of the merc vids.
@@malquid3811 Thanks for the reply. Correction, check out the link below. This is PART 2 and at the (8:05) time slot, it shows the seal as we discuss the lock ring that Gen 2 owners have. But us Gen 1 owners have just that seal. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HBJN8MGoQ64.htmlsi=24ZUigb41EvX2E4n 😎👍
