*From the Manual*
Cross Enemy Lines!
The former president of the United States was on a peace mission to Central Africa where fighting had reached such epic proportions that is was
jeopardizing the political stability of the whole continent. He was carrying classified military information that would help defeat revolutionary forces.
While in the country of Zutula, the president was kidnapped by revolutionaries before he reached his destination. As ransom, the revolutionaries demanded the right to rule Zutula and they threatened to extract U.S. military secrets from the president in any way they could!
For political reasons, the United States government could not send in regular military forces. But the president had to be rescued before any secrets wore
divulged! The government's solution was to send In an elite corps of mercenaries, known as the Mercs, to rescue the former president in a clandestine operation.
As a member of the Mercs, trained in anti-terrorist activities, it is up to you to get behind enemy lines and rescue the former president. And remember, no
one can help you!
*Trivia*
The original arcade version of Mercs, along with Commando and Gun.Smoke, are included in the fourth volume of the Capcom Generations compilations released for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1998. The same version of the game would later be included as part of Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1
