@@MercuryMarine I second the comment about the dipstick. It should be accessible from the front of the engine and by a separate smaller door. Removing the cowling, particularly when the boat is in the water, is a pain.

No kidding? I didn’t realize a 150 did not have the access door. I have the access door on my 250. It’s great! Can also add oil right there if needed.

The bottom plug can be a bit tricky on some models. For instructions on removing the bottom cowling, we recommend getting an engine service manual. There may be videos on RU-vid showing the process, but nothing that we have produced.

We do not recommend the use of dielectric grease in the spark plug boot.

Hello Ryan! Mercury Marine does not require routine maintenance to be performed by your Mercury Marine dealer. In your operator's guide, in the Maintenance section, we specifically call out the items to be addressed by your Mercury Marine dealer. Routine tasks such as engine oil changes, gear lube changes, lubrication of propeller shafts, etc., can all be performed using Mercury Marine Precision Parts in your garage or driveway. Give our customer service team a shout if you have any questions or would like more information. 🙂

The thermostat on this engine is located within the thermostat housing at the top of the engine, next to the flywheel. If you follow the large-diameter cooling hose to the top of the engine, it will lead you directly to it.
