I have a 2010 CVPI. I have been driving it 8 years now. It had slightly less than 75,000 miles on it when I got it, and now has over 179,000 miles on the clock. It has served me long and durably. I have no plans on getting rid of it anytime soon.

@theoneandonly6431
@theoneandonly6431 2 года назад
Believe it or not, I consider the biggest problem on these cars to be not mechanical, but cosmetical: the rust that develops over the wheel wells. This is my second CVPI, and both of them have had that issue.

I use a shop vacuum in the oil fill, once the bolt is off I have the vacuum cord plug where I can reach it so that when I unplug it I can adjust the catch pan to the oil stream. After wiping the filter mess I visit a self serve car wash and spray off any remaining oil, as well as the rest of the engine bay. A clean engine is 'easier' to work on. Most new car washes have filters for the wash water so they are not sending petroleum products into the sewer system, or, storm drains. I keep large pieces of cardboard to lie on to protect my back from gravel, Hot concrete, and fluids. Once they are dirty I throw them away.

What does that motor flush do, or what is it supposed to do?
@LoveWhatYouDrive
@LoveWhatYouDrive 3 месяца назад
The car sat for 4 years not being driven, I real didn’t k ie what the maintenance history of it was. I didn’t know ow if the previous owners did oil changes on time or if they ever did them. Just a jump start TJ regular maintenance. It supposed to clean out sludge and buildup, if it didn’t sit I wouldn’t care but I just used it for the peace of mind.

Rust warrior. 1 quart of Trans fluid, oil, toilet bowl gaskets and a tube of grease. Heat and mix up and put under and wherever to fight rust. I've used mineral oil, baby oil and Vaseline melted in doors, quarters, hood, trunk etc to fight rust. Been rust free for almost 15 years now. Sounds crazy but use that reciepe has kept log trucks, trailers, Dozers, skidders and anything else from rusting with PA snow and salt, which is a battle if car is not coated with a frame/body type paint like from eastwood, rust bullet etc. That's a great base, then I use equipment John Deere black with hardener. It's lasted very very well. Very happy when I see so many cars with rust of some degree and mines perfect besides exhaust surface rust. I use 303 and Vaseline on air bags and any rubber. Same bags as dealer installed in 2010. Good luck and happy motoring my friend!

@LoveWhatYouDrive 2 года назад
Thanks for chiming in! Congrats on the Merc! Welcome to the panther family. I would literally just start with the most Basic of maintenance. I usually never trust previous owners on what they have done to the car or what fluids or filters were changed. Start with a oil change a filter air filter check the spark plugs (PS that video will come out soon as well for the spark plugs.) and if all of that checks out just show attention where attention is needed, are your suspension good or shocks are blown? Are your brake pads rotors and calipers good? maybe you need to change tire rod end links, bushings, fail or fix your AC system, do any check engine lights go on? Are there codes? Just go down the list and take care of what is broken or worn out and do a basic maintenance and the more you drive it the more you will know what needs to be next on the list. It’s not as overwhelming as this message makes it seem, and you will prioritize what is needed for safety or what can wait! Good luck man! Enjoy the Merc!
