I learned to Ski with our 1966 I believe it was looked very much like this one. Pull start ect. I watched my father rebuild it. Great little motors. I feel one of Mercs. Best ever. !
I replaced the inner and outer manifold covers, and a new engine wiring loom,im just a carpenter!, big job for me,very nervous about starting it as i made my own gaskets,,they are gnarly!.Anyways, tonight it fired up after 3yrs of sitting, dragged to fiji and never used, back to NZ and she runs sweet ! im so stoked ! havnt had it on a boat yet might just leave it on the stand and listen to it,they are very throaty,go the redbands. mine is the 650 late 71, last of the 4cyl.

@@RideAcrossTheRiver The sound and look of them was amasing! And for a young kid and his brother, it was like being chased by a Sylon, even though they had not been invented yet!
when the water do not show up on the upper indicator, and not enter to the gearcase you know the impeller is bad, with the hose attaches as soon the motor run the water suck in,
I have a 1976 16.5' Deep Hull Starcraft with a 50 HP Mercury motor also from 1976 that I got from my Dad, what do you think the chances are that the motor is still ok after not running for 20 yrs?
I have one of these, it probably isnt in gear ( I have pull started mine in gear before, whoops) just work the propeller around while it's in gear. Mine sat for a few years before I dragged it out of a retiree's barn. Runs like a champ now
Dear sir.Hi there seem's like you really know your boat motor's.I've got a 1973 20hp mercury Kiekinhaufer,I think I spelt that right lol.Got no spark my kill switch seem's like it might be stuck not sure. Can I disconect the kill switch to see if theres spark.Any other suggestion's.I'm good with small motor's.Just don't have alot of experiance with boat motor's.What a pain in the ass to get at the coil's and such under the pull start recoil.wow.
hey i have a 1966 just like yours, set and cleaned points and new plugs, but no spark what do you think is wrong? lost the key whats your key number? RSVP
Thomas Flynn man you must post on every outboard video asking how to fix something. I've seen you at least 15 times asking someone to fix a problem for you. If you are trying to fix other people motors please stop! You obviously don't know what the hell u are doing
