The first pillars of the bridge were built in 1914, but the bridge was completed in 1931-1932.
Restored after the Great Patriotic War in 1951. The total length is 1627 meters.
All arched span structures of the bridge with spans of 52.22 meters and 15 meters were re-built in the form of reinforced concrete hingeless arches and vaults. Before destruction, two navigable spans of 109 meters were covered with typical metal spans, restored in the form of reinforced concrete arches.
Merefo - Kherson railway bridge - the first bridge built in the form of an arc. It was necessary to build a railway line to the south, which was an impossible task, since the Nizhnedneprovsk station on the left bank of the Dnieper was located to the left of the Lotsmanskaya station. It was impossible to connect them with a straight line. The design engineers were given the task of connecting unconnected stations. For several years, the bridge was designed and the tension and load on the bend of the arc were calculated.
The bridge is still one of the most unique structures in Ukraine - it is the longest reinforced concrete arch bridge in Europe.
