I think this is the first time ever that I see a good application of Wing Chun in a reasonable context. A real mix of Wing Chun and western styles. Congratulations

This is truly a lethal combination merging wing chung with boxing. I can see how bridging the gap is more effective with a boxing stance and throwing gabs from the outside. then once the gap is closed the effectiveness of wing chung is utilized in close quarters for which it's designed for. In my oppion this is showing how WC is evolving to the changing times and it keeps the art from dying. great job well done. thank you 52 blocks for this video.

Ok Im tired of everyone dismissing this video and any other 52 block video, or Krav maga video, or TKD, Wing Chun, Sanshou, Judo or whatever. Instead of saying how inferior the art is, Why not do what Lyte is showing and saying to you. He says, "52 is not Wing Chun, they are separate arts, but in their ranges, they work well." Boxing is not Muay Thai, but in their ranges, they work well. EVERY FORM OF MARTIAL ARTS IS VALID! EVEN STREET FIGHTING! WHEN YOU DON'T RESPECT A FORM, YOU GET HURT! See if, what is being said can be applied to your style, then you can cover the weaknesses of the style you know or enhance the strengths of your style. For in a fight, it is not the martial art thast fights, but the practitioner.

You made, and removed, a VERY intelligent statement about bringing WC back to its roots of COMBAT. I fully agree with you that, for a very large part, WC has become a system of "what if" training, focusing too much on Chi Sau. It is a method for COMBAT FIGHTING. This is what we focus extensively in our school in Chicago. All the best. -Dominick Izzo

I have experience with boxing, kickboxing , wing chun, and Kali . Quite frankly I disagree with a lot the nay sayers about the art of 52 blocks. I think it stands on its own as an excellent martial art, gives a hell of a cardio and builds a great defense. When paired with another striking art such as standard boxing kick boxing etc you then have a excellent offense and defense. If you pair it with more complex arts like wushu, or wing chun it makes a very interesting mix. I have been adding some of the techniques in kali open hand arsenal. Bad part for my knee is bad I can not add the foot work needed but at least I can get the blocks and elbows down right. Also I have to say that the owner of this youtube page actually gets back with people who ask him questions which in my experience only 2 other guys has ever gotten back with me about martial arts questions on youtube.

Peace be upon you brothers...I'm always impressed when we can have true dialog and remain respectful.With that being said I've trained since 78 and WC since about 83..every day. I respectfully say that my WC has ground game..Can't say that it has true grappling, but I can fight on and from the ground. I think if you have trained hard, you find what works, or should I say you better find what works and use it.Thanks for letting me share.Was born right there in Kings County Hospital.Miss home..

It all becomes a matter of proximity and understanding of the art. Wing Chun does have ranges dealing with long, short, clinch and if needed, ground. It is unfortunate that WC has strayed so far away from its roots of combat and has become more geared toward a demo art and "energy" manipulation. I can only say that MY Wing Chun, due to MY understanding of it is relatable in this context. All in all, outstanding material displayed here by 52 blocks. -Dominick Izzo, Wing Chun Chicago

In the 70's I thought as you did. In 1983 I became a student of William Cheung who teaches an "outside" game. I've been arguing with WC people that all WC doesn't fight down the middle. Now people know that Yip Man's Si-Gung, Leung Jan taught fighting on the outside is his Gu Lo Pien San Wing Chun. They didn't know so I can understand how you didn't know.

Much respect to your style and your way..What your leaving out like most peoples description or understanding of wing chun is.. the most important part the body and the legs.. wing chun does not chase hands and hand trapping or attempting to hand trap.. will get you knocked out.. you trap the body find his feet through his arms..and then manipulate his balance.. Its so many bad teachers and false prophets when it comes to fighting arts.. stop learning styles and learn principals then it merges.. for example your skull and cross bones and closed door are also used in wing chun..not the name but the principal.. last but not least raise your elbow that high while chi sao with a good wing chun man and you will pay dearly..
@arinlampkin1
@arinlampkin1 2 года назад
Biggest mistake people make with wing Chong is The kata and they believe that is the fighting style because the bunkai is mostly lost With most practitioners, you can see it in the rigid stance that the practitioners used in real fights which is the reason they lose wing chang is meant to be loose and fluid like water, much like you would see a boxer like Mayweather, using the “sword and shield” stands(shoulder roll /Philly shell). The problem with Wing Chang which like most martial arts is people don’t understand transitioning from the nuance of the kata to the bunkai. Most people don’t even understand what the bunkai is or what the difference between that and the kata. Forgive me if I’ve misspelled those two words.

as interesting as Keysi was in the last few Batman movies (mainly Batman Begins), this stuff would have been interesting to see too -- especially for some of the more involved scenes. Bane handled Batman's big looping haymakers without a problem, but he might have had trouble with this stuff.

Bruce got the 5 ranges of combat from Yip Man. I know that because my Sifu was Bruce's senior at the Hong Kong school and was the one who introduced Bruce to Yip Man. There is an article written by Wong Shun Leung, who was my Sifu's senior that explains how Cheung (Chang) Cheuk Hing brought Bruce to Yip Man. It's on my website. I teach those same five stages. The term long range is a misnomer unless you have a weapon. Either you're in range to hit someone or you're not. It's that simple.

I started the martial arts back in the early 70'sand studied up till now. I remember being so disillusioned by the 80's and struggling for an answer to what works in a fight. I poured over Bruce Lee's stuff and research everything. I even studied Praying Mantis kung fu while in Korea. Then the UFC came along and that was it. All I knew was largely worthless except the bare knuckle boxing my grandfather had taught me a long time ago. He spent many nights in the back rooms of bars trying to earn a buck fighting. In the end I have come to realize you are not a fighter if you don't fight. I was taught largely by guys who had never been in a fight. Their teachers had also never been in a fight and so on and so on. So after many decades I have realized you don't take advice or debate with someone who has never fought. Thanks for your great videos

I wasted a great part of my life following dead ends. I would spend countless hours throwing reverse punches and side kicks. I was never taught how to truly apply it in a fight and nor did my instructors know how. I think back to my grand father saying "what is that shit?!" when i would throw a reverse punch with a karate forward stance. Hand all chambered and my chin sticking up . He would follow it with "I would hook you in fucking jaw if you pulled some kind of a bullshit punch like that! Who taught you that shit?" Then he would get me back in my boxing stance. He would say "fuck that flat footed shit! Get up on the ball of the right foot! Push off it when you punch and release that right foot when you throw a straight right! Why the hell are they taking your pivot away!" He was a small guy but he punched hard because he had to. My grandfather always said "You generate power from the ground up! Not just with your arms. Your feet, knees and hips are all part of the punch!" He was right about everything! Oh well I should have spent my time learning from the true master, not these guys with made up titles and a fancy Gi. My grandfather had one title "I survived!" and he did while fighting other hunger men trying to feed their families during the depression. I like that you are a real fighter trying to make sense of some of these traditional arts.

People who compete in chi sau end up thinking it is combat. It is not. It is just a tool to train sensitivity, balance awareness, listening to energetic intentions of the partner. It is not a competition but a reciprocal exercise. Those who treat it as competition end up cultivating struggling energy & bad neuro connections. If ur in the San Jose area, come visit Kenneth Cheung teaching at San Jose University Wing Chun. U'll see something quite different from what ur use to.

Really appreciate all the guys that put vids on here especially ones on combat and other practices like weights etc. Fighting is a personal thing because we are all different. My Wing Chun Master said "Learn what you can, use what you need"! So there is no right or wrong! He tought us that real Wing Chun was a set of theories and concepts as it not supposed to be a style. It's supposed to be about destroying your enemies as quickly as possible! It was invented for war like most martial arts, then they were stylised so someone coul be the man. I could go on but I won't bore everyone, it's not your fault that the Wing Chun you see is one dimensional. There is a lot more to it than that. If you are ever in England and want a cup of tea or coffee and a chin wag about shit let me know. Lastly 52 block is actually nearer to the theories and concepts than you think! Take care guys, keep up the good work! Peace

That's so awsome. As I said before, haters are watching and wondering. That's why you don't see much negative comments. They're at home eating their scrapple; drinking their snapple, watching Lyte shine while they're falling behind. Too much attention to the hating and not enough participating on making their interpretations of 52 blocks the art worth learning, cause their jealous anger is burning the bridges, making them bitches in the art they claim to know. And so it goes, 52 A.O.D. may grow.

one of the best videos I've seen demonstrating the effectiveness of WC you can find if you type "karate vs wing chun" posted by Yongchundaiquan in the search bar. Most of the "this style vs this style" videos are bull. Just two guys who have a little training going at it, but in this video you have a guy who is trying to establish his name in WC, and a senior Karate student. The WC fighter goes to the Karate school and just straight up challenges them to spar him, and prove their art is better.
@matreyia

"i just asked you where did you compete??" I do not compete. In terms of chi sau, I train in the way of feeling the partner's energy and feeding, NOT with the mind set of competing to hit the partner. It is easy to hit, but very hard to control energies coming at you from various angles. With no root to speak of, one relies on fast hands & head hunting or pushing into the person with one's weight. One struggles if there is an obstacle & doesn't know how to deal with strong it efficiently.

also, the fighting method series came BEFORE bruce started to drop WC from JKD. compare the hand positions of bruce in the fighting method and ted's in "the straight lead". evidently bruce still followed WC's centerline theory to a major degree when he was writing the fighting method series, but afterwards moved on to a stronger focus on boxing, as can be seen by ted raising his left to cover the left side of the chin and retracting his right arm to his ribs to prevent his deltoids from tiring.

I definately recommend keeping your mind open and training multiple styles. as per below, I was just trying to make a point about the effectiveness of people fighting under the system of WC. A video that has WC fighter vs. xxxxxxxxxx style should have a fighter who stays inside the WC system. Does the foot work to the best of their ability, maintains control via the principles of the system.

Ip man taught Bruce Lee Wing Chun. Bruce Lee realized after a fight that wing chun was not effective enough. Thats why he invented Jun Kun Do. Utlilizes wing chun several other styles including Western boxing. The most effective fighting style specifically created to put ur opponent down in the least amount of time possible. Thats why Bruce Lee was so great.

Well the point I was originally making is that w/c does know how to close the gap in a fight. I have seen w/c schools that fight full contact, but w/c mainly focuses on sensitivity training to make you react naturally to what an opponent throws at you that's the purpose of chi sao. Kung fu focuses on preserving the body this way you can be healthy your whole life, because full contact fights like boxing and mma will wear down your body in the long run and you can't train like that forever
@mazztradamus1

I like 52 cause I find it practical for the street but a lot of it's techniques comes from traditional martial arts mixed with boxing. So we have to give credit to those styles has well as the masters who created them, cause those guys unlike many of us were training for the battle field. I don't know if 52 has this but we train to use disciplined techniques such has iron body, iron palm and cutting palm techniques which can quickly give you the advantage over someone who doesn't

Chi sau competition was created to satisfy ego driven paying students who wanted to "see" their training was worth it. Leung Ting & other people set this up to make money. It counter productive to go into chi sau with a person who just wants to push with his heavy body and hit ur head continously. It is much better just to fight them using the principles & reflexes gained from proper chi sau training. If u control ur CG, then ur ahead of the game. If not, ur just like the other guy shoving.

You miss understand my point. It isn't that I don't advocate the use of multiple systems. I merely was responding to the statement WC's effectiveness. This is why I was mentioning that often WC fights show guys stepping infront of an opponent and squaring off. This isn't the design of WC. This is why people think it is ineffective, from all the videos of beginners or just poor fighters not using the system to it's full potential.

even the punching style is different. in the complete method, bruce launched his straight lead from the centre without full rotation of the body, but ted learnt the improved version of the straight with full rotation of the body. IMO bruce did stick to some WC concepts, such as the centreline, to a limited degree but he dropped what made WC WC, the blocks, squaring off to the oponent etc. bruce himself said JKD is 80 percent lead side attacks.

I know the videos were sloppy I was just showing that some w/c practitioners fight hard. Most martial artists lack discipline and when they fight it becomes a sloppy type of mma brawl. I never said w/c was a long range style my argument was that what they will do is block and close that gap so that they can work their techniques from a trapping at range, anyway I have much respect for what your doing with your 52 their are some similarities cause like bruce lee said we all have 2 arms and legs

52 is not Ving Tsun and Ving Tsun is not 52, for sure. But that downwards-ish elbow movement @ 1:37 that was labelled as 52 is clearly seen in Ving Tsun curriculums (see: Biu Jee (and a more horizontal one in Chum Kiu). In Ving Tsun it's called Karp Jaang or Kwai Jaang (though there may be other names)

That's why i like 52 hands because you can do many other things that'll otherwise be illegal in boxing.

sweet man run with it! Get that name out there, I'm sick of the disrespect WC has in the eyes of competitive martial arts (muay thai, MMA, etc) WC school's need to not be afraid to mix it up and get dirty. It makes their teachings that much more useful.

This is amazing, I wish there were schools that taught boxing and wing chun. It seems so logical to me but I feel like no one does it. If anyone knows of a school that does this in the bay area please tell me

Oh and the guy who was showing you wing chun doesnt have a clue at all what he was doing.. He did have some basic principles but they were flawed... No disrespect to Him at all. He is doing whatever he was taught... When understood right Wing Chun does have the outside game. Much luv bro..

I don't know the full history of 52 Blocks, but some of the techniques look almost identical to an area of Filipino Martial Arts called Dumog. I don't think that is where 52 Blocks developed it's skill from, I think it's a case of 2 completely separated cultures that had no contact with one another that developed nearly identical techniques to fit a similar need in combat. The term for this in Biology is Convergent Evolution.

@52blocksinfo but the training of defense in the sense of footwork,deflections,FEINTS,blocks,52 works just that an thats what makes it different from most arts...52 would be what spartans consider there shield even though they hsd spears you could lose those but it was failure to lose your shield metaphorically speaking...so the shapes you see are the shapes that proved battle tested the philly shell is a clear example of this..thanks for the question..LGD

...and they have rules and nice camera equipment to capture the fight. Most WC fights are over before a camera can be produced...lol. Now I'm laughing again. Thanks for the laughs, by the way.

I Like your video, I understand that wing chun needs that close range, but often time, wing chun practitioner would try to create that range.

i didn't have to control his hand,remember its a sensitivity drill,i knew his hand was there an if his hand is not moving i don't have to respond,if he does move his hand i know cause once again its a drill that builds up your sensitivity,this is common knowledge of WC

I see a lot of similarity between what you teach and what I learned in kajukenbo. I guess the good book was right "There is nothing knew under the sun".

@MakoGryphon i'v had a few 'scuffles' where the first stage is always the talk/verbal agression, then the pushing with physical advancement then last stage is physical contact/agression where if you keep everything close they will most likely try and grab. or you can always tell them to not grab your new shirt... most likely they will grab your "new" shirt to see what you're going to do about it. thats when you control them b/c they fist are not flying towards your face but are focusing on grab.
