I absolutely adored Merit’s marketing campaign for these shadows! Thanks for the swatches, Matilda 🥰 Social, Mid-Century and Viper are calling my name 😩
AndreeAli MUA used the hunter green as a liner that she beautifully winged out in a gorgeous less-is-more color. These are beautiful. Thank you for sharing this video, Marilda❤
I swear I’m not lazy but the thought of unscrewing and rescrewing all of those lids is my reason for passing on buying them. There’s gotta be a still protective yet easier packaging form.
A slightly higher, less rounded lid probably would've done the trick! The current design can be tricky to grip properly so it doesn't feel very inclusive unfortunately 😔 (Thinking of Rare Beauty's packaging that was designed with makeup lovers with arthritis or disabilities in mind) x
@@zoilalulu3798 I believe it was coincidental initially but when people responded so well to their packaging after that first launch, I think I read that Rare Beauty were going to make inclusivity part of their design process moving forward 👍 x
@@zoilalulu3798I’m pretty sure Selena purposely made the packaging that way because she herself has struggles with non-accessibility friendly packaging.
Didn’t even know about this release! Thanks for all the swatching and breaking down of this product! So well down and so well worded, said, and described! I might have to check these out! A splendid video as always 🫶
I have been SO looking forward to your review of this. I went to Sephora and almost ALL of the colors were sold out, which I was so happy to see for them! I still managed to find a rogue unit of Studio and Midcentury, which I thought were perfect for my skin tone. (Vachetta was a bit too yellow, and Brun was beautiful, but I'll probably get that one later.) You're right, the biggest thing to note is the learning curve with the packaging. They are very hard to open and I would have preferred a stick version, to be honest!
Finding some sneaky final stock is so satisfying Lindsey! 😄👏 Glad you've been enjoying those two. I would've loved using a stick in a parallel packaging universe too! x
I am so happy I found your chanel! It has to be the most satisfying one when it comes to makeup. So well edited, so nicely filmed and so well spoken! I stoped buying makeup long time ago, and your videos are the that dopamine rush I need, without making the clutter and spending money. Thank you!
I was dying to see reviews of these very appealing pots of color, and they don’t disappoint. I’m interested in Studio and Vachetta, but I’m not wearing eyeshadow very often lately, so not sure I want to spring for them.
I do love Merit's products and the description you mentioned of someone who rarely wears eyeshadow or has little to no makeup skills basically describes me to a T. If they had a dark or bolder red I definitely would be purchasing, but for now I'll keep these in the back of my mind and consider one of them if I decide to treat myself.
Great to hear you're enjoying them Angela! Which shade do you wear? I love using the tiny end of the brush to add a bit under my lower lash line too 👌 x
I don't know why im watching this video, i don't wear eyeshadow nor do i have any intention of buying this product hut something about the thumbnail and the colours just made me click. I forgot how much i love this channel ❤
Absolutely love these eyeshadows. I have all 9 shades. I love you can be a minimalist or a maximalist with the same product. Great video 👏🏽👏🏽. Thank you 😊. Happy New Year 🎊🎈. Cheers 😉🌷
As I’ve gotten older, my eye primers don’t work as well until I got some Merit cream eyeshadows. I did not crease at all and wore them on a humid day- removed at night. I plan to pick up some more ❤
im a light medium with neutral undertones - these days i don’t really wear eyeshadow unless it’s some type of brown over the lid, almost like an eye contour to deepen the appearance of my hooded eyes, gives me a bit more ~mystique~. i’d love to pick up something slightly warmer and more rosy like the studio shade especially for autumn 👀
The most anticipated video of the YEAR is finally here!!! LOVED the review. A couple questions: you mentioned you usually use the Nars eye premier whenever you put on eye makeup, would you still recommend it for before applying the solo eye shadow? And B) a bit of a random question, but what product do you use to clean your merit brushes? I kinda destroyed my old one without intending to 😭
Thank you Cris! So glad you enjoyed it 🥰 I think Solo Shadow works best on its own - I mention briefly in the video that I think it's better without primer. It creased a lot more (and faster) on me when I applied NARS first, so I stopped using it and the results were suddenly so much better! As for washing brushes... I need to do it more often haha. For face brushes, I like using a tiny bit of my shampoo, and for eyeshadow brushes, I use a mini Beautyblender Blendercleanser Solid. A handy Sephora points perk once! x
@@matildaonvideo ah man, I too use shampoo whenever I need to clean my brushes but perhaps I was just too rough this time ‘cause I ended up pulling a few strands from my Merit face brush D’: gotta now find a friend in UK to send me a new one
I love these eyeshadows. They work great on my mature eyes and fit my minimalist makeup routine perfectly. I have studio and vacatta and want social and brun and viper.
I love the humour in this video! And of course as always the voice just soothes me into a calmer state. The shade Social is really calling my name but I am broke and they don't ship here to Japan. I'll just enjoy watching you LMAO.
@@matildaonvideo I'm definitely adding the minimalist and a couple of solo shadows (so keen to try social!) but the lipsticks (usually my easiest pick) have got me stumped. Matte or satin? Red or your lips but better? DECISIONS, DECISIONS!!
Thank you so much! I can’t wait to try studio. I have been looking for a cream formula to replace my Jones Road eyeshadow in Ash (which promptly crumbled). That’s my ideal, gray shadow color. I hope studio is close!
Thank you for watching Jensie! As I mention in the video, Studio isn't a true grey taupe at all - it has much more caramel/rosy warmth so it doesn't look like a match for Ash unfortunately. Nelson might be closer? But that's a much deeper grey. Lovely shades, they just might not be quite what you're looking for! 🎨 x
Oh@@matildaonvideo this is such a nice call out! Thank you. I had thought Social was the closest swatch (similar skin tones between us) and I wrote Studio instead. I will head into a store to swatch it + fingers crossed. Thanks again for your incredible creative direction in these videos. So valuable yet so soothing.
I was going to pick up Studio but I was surprised how warm it ended up being in person on my fair skin, so I went with Social instead (which I find to be much more taupe-cool than Studio).
I only have MAC pain pots as eyeshadows. Love the little glass pots and easy swipe. Much like the missing neutral between painterly and soft ochre this lines 2 lightest neutrals miss the ideal “my perfected youthful eyelid tone”. . Maybe in another release.? Thank you for the packaging comments. To me it’s an important part of the purchase. The VB is so elegant.
You're welcome Amanda, hope it was helpful! ☺️ I swear I owned Groundwork once but it must have been about a decade ago.. nowhere to be found now after several house/city moves! Sounds like I should try them out again x
Just picked up Studio and can’t wait to try it after watching this! I have hooded and oily lids as well and my holy grail one-and-done shadow pot (MAC’s Painterly) started giving me a rash so I have high hopes for this 🤞🏻 💕
Thank you for watching Anne! 😄 Unfortunately I don't own any MAC Paint Pots to compare (I swear I used to have Groundwork but that must've been a decade ago), but another commenter mentioned that even though these look similar but MAC, the Paint Pots have much shorter wear time in their experience x
@matildaonvideo Thank you for your reply! I'm using paint pot as eyeshadow base since I have dark lids. Sometimes it stays, sometimes it wears off. I hope merit will expand more for easier access 😊
This was a lovely video and thank you. I just don’t get the fuss over these. They look kind of patchy and hard to remove or blend. I feel like if it wasn’t merit the reception might be different
Thank you Mellie! Interesting point. The branding will certainly get people in, but the performance is what really impressed me, and I love the neutral shade range too (plus mauve Social 💜). I mention that when you wear them as a sheer wash on the eye, they're easy to remove! x
I am intrigued. Sadly, we don't get merit in India. They are missing a true neutral or cool toned mid brown. Mauve comes close. I love how thorough your reviews are. love the grunge nail colour on you.
A great review! Bit I'm still left wondering, has anyone tried the midnight shade and compared to Violette_Fr's Ciel de Nuit yeux paint? I ADORE the navy color, but am looking for something to help me achieve a smokey wash, and the yeux paints are NOT for that. As the video mentioned, they set in a fraction of a second? Anyone one tried this Navy? How does it compare?
I bought Brun and it is literally my skin tone 😢 I do like it Ijust can only use it as a base. I'll definitely get the darkest one plus it will make for a good liner
I heard the same from someone who said Studio was exactly their skin tone so it didn't show up! But that's a good plan using Brun as a base, hopefully the lasting power will be a nice starting point for other shadows ☺️👍 x
Luckily I'm not fussed by expiry dates at all, and most of my products over the years have lasted well beyond the suggested date if I keep the lid closed tightly, use with clean hands, don't share etc, even from the 'clean' beauty world. Just in case that helps! But I know the approach with expiry dates is always going to be a personal call 👍 x
Have pretty much stuck with Merit for the last year...so no eyeshadow. But, I now have Studio and I really love it! I love the look of Midcentury but Studio is my color for Minimalist in Silk. I think I would be safe trying Social next. I really hope that there will be more 'neutrals' coming out...can't imagine 7 years in the works and not expanding the range.
Very good point about the shade range being in development for that long! I'd love to see another four colours released soon maybe.. two neutrals and two statements 😍 Great to hear you're enjoying Studio too! x
Hi Matilda I bought the lip oil in sangria and I love the colour however I've only had a for several months and it's already smelling like rancid oil. I can't use it. It was fine when I bought it then recently I noticed the smell. Maybe it has expired.
It's not too much blending work luckily, they soften nicely! Particularly the lighter shades like Studio, Vachetta and Social. Navy eyeliner sounds good to me! 💙 x
Ohhhhh, these DO look lovely!. Definitely tempted by Vachetta and Mid Century......any feedback on how they handle paired with a sparkly topper like Shiseido Aura or something similar?
I haven't been wearing them with anything else yet Susan, just letting them shine on their own (so to speak for a matte!) 😄 The only thing I've added is a more luminous eyeliner sometimes, the coral pink Chanel shimmer from my 2023 Favourites video. No issues lining over the top once it had set x
These look lovely and what an excellent review, Matilda! I probably will get one or two because I adore this brand. However MAC paint pots are still 🔥 after all these years and I just upped my game on those.
Thank you Teri, really appreciate that! 😄 I'd love to hear your MAC Paint Pot shade suggestions. I think I had an old Groundwork pot a decade ago but don't have any recent experience with that formula or shade range! x
Always love your swatches - truly the best around! Much like their lipsticks, none of these colors are really speaking to me! Maybe it’s a skin tone difference? The navy and deepest brown are pretty but may look like bruises on me! 😂 Still a beautiful launch though!!
Thank you Bri! You can see models with different skin colours and tones wearing each shade on their website, but I'm sure the fairly muted range overall (even in the deeper statement shades) won't jump out at everyone 🎨 x
Great video as always . Love those first 3. I’ve yet to buy anything from them yet. I can’t believe they don’t do a % off for first orders. I’ve got zero interest in that bag thing they fob you off with
At first these looked like Mac paint pots to me but those are definitely not as crease proof. I love the shade midcentury, must beg my friend to send me some more goodies from the UK. 😅
Interesting, thanks for sharing Hannah! I swear I bought a Groundwork pot a decade ago but must have lost it when I moved many years ago 🫣 Definitely worth going on the UK/US wishlist! x
The deep brown and blue are so patchy with either finger or it’s brush . I tried to use them as eyeliners and founded that their colour are way too sheer. I did try to layer it , but the brush drag the colour away . Not a fan. I only keep the midcentury as it’s consistency seemed to be the best.
I've been having more luck getting Brun to look even but it does take a lot more work than the lighter shades! One of my favourite creators on Instagram @skincarestandard just shared a reel applying Brun with a brush and it looked perfect 👌🤎 but Midcentury, Vachetta and Studio are definitely more even x
Neutral/natural eyeshadow isn’t generally my game so that beautiful gangster girlfriend blue is absolutely BECKONING to me… it’s giving 80’s Michelle Pfeiffer/Elvira Hancock 🤤
I purchased these and the only negative I can attribute is towards the packaging. If you have large hands/fingers and/or suffer from even a mild case of arthritis, these components may prove to be more trouble than getting to the great formula is worth.😕
These look nice but as someone who has shed eyeshadow I don’t know if I can be bothered with these. Part of me wishes they were a stick or had one with a slight shimmer (hourglass vibes). I don’t know if I need to put the effort into a May shadow when using a primer and bronzer already gives me that effect if I want it
Sorry to hear Averie, I did worry that the lid wouldn't be inclusive 😔 I know MERIT have updated product packaging in the past so hopefully they might see the feedback on it! x
Most of my viewers are in the US and that's where these launched, so they're definitely heading into fall there! 🍂 Meanwhile the autumn leaves have finally finished falling in Australia (the trees in my street took their time haha), and I'm enjoying Studio and Social so far for the start of warmer spring weather x
I bought this when it first came out. I used it and put it aside. When I came back to it five months after I purchased it, it was completely dried out and unusable.
Interesting copycat....well the Americans are trying to imitate Manasi 7 with this concept.l and a cheeper price under the Moto "clean brand". I think I will stick to trusted and glorious RMS as an ambassador of this ideology or to our beloved Manasi 7 here in the E.U, my top for this type of aesthetics . Also I tested the new brownish Rare Beauty eyeshadow sticks in the shade Contentment...that was a hit for the start of the new season. Thanx Matilda🎉😊❤as always your vids rock!
I'm a Manasi 7 fan too Kat, love their multitasking blush pots! 😍 I wouldn't say these eyeshadows are a copycat of any product in particular though - there are many cream shadows on the market, and I believe the Manasi pots are shimmery and meant to be more glowy than these mattes. I'd love to try them! I like the sound of Contentment too x
