Merkur 15c Open Comb Razor 

You may have a _defective razor_ if you are having issues with blade alignment. I have several Merkur razors and *never* have problems with blade alignment. I drop in a blade and have wonderful shaves. *Merkur makes a wonderful product!!!*

I agree with you about it not being very aggressive, I also have a Van Der Hagen(Weishi 9306) and it is more aggressive. The Merkur 15c is the only razor I have ever used that never gave me a single nick or cut.

Blade alignment can be affected by how the blade is installed. Installing the blade with the razor handle parallel to the ground will cause the blade to seat off center. When installing the blade, place the receiver plate face up on a level surface when seating the blade, install the open comb plate, then keep the razor perpendicular to the ground when tightening the handle. Note that overtightening can cause excessive torque on the razor assembly and cause the blade to shift position as well. It's not necessary to tighten the hell out of your razor handle. Light pressure seats the blade, and the head will not loosen or come off and sever an artery while you're shaving.

I also have this razor and I think that’s the best you can use (for head and beard shaving). 👍🏼

I started with a Merkur 38c, very smooth efficient razor but not perfect. I bought a 25c (long handled 15c) for closer shaves, but the 25c ended up being much milder and less effective than the 38c. I put it away after a week because it was barely cutting compared to my other razors: Merkur 38c, PAA Dual Open Comb, Parker 26.

I have NEVER had to align a blade in any of my razors. I have a 23c (just a longer handle than the 15c, otherwise the same) and it has no issues. It is VERY mild, though👍

Wesley, the reason you may be having trouble getting your Merkur razors to self center the blade is because you're not using the right method of blade insertion. My 33C, 37C, and 15C self center every time, without fail! (Some razors won't, but I haven't seen a Merkur yet that doesn't.) The method (recommended by Merkur, by the way) is 1) put a towel/washcloth on the counter 2) put razor on towel, handle up 3) press down with fingers onto underside of baseplate while unscrewing handle 4) remove baseplate 5) remove (& recycle) blade 6) lay new blade on still-inverted top cap 7) put baseplate in position 8) press down with fingers onto underside of baseplate while tightening handle. Hmmm, my very same experience with the Merkur 1904, Open comb and aggressive looks, yet it is the mildest of all, even with a brand new Feather blade. It's performance is OK to say the least, a good shave but even my RazoRock TTO with a new ASTRA blade gives me closer shaves. Good video.

Hi how are you going? Wondering if you also have the 33c? I have the 33c and I want to buy the 15c they look the same in terms of handle and weight. Do you have the 33c? If you do can you compare them please? I like to shave with cold water due to sensitive skin with thick hair, but the 33c has a tougher time cutting the hair with many blades I tried, I'm wondering if the 15c is more efficient at cutting the hair compared to the 33c?

Wesley West You're talking rubbish, there is nothing to adjust when putting the blade in the razor. You obviously don't put the blade in properly.
