Trying out a gold Futur Razor today and some Castle Forbes Soap that was sent to me from one of my friends from Oklahoma, (Thanks Marc). I’ve heard great things about this soap and I really like the look of the gold Futur Razor. Also trying a much requested Gillette Silver Blue blade in today’s shave.

@@nelsonduarte2355 true, I still get ingrowns too even when using a DE. For me any close shave, cartridge, DE or electric, irritates my skin. That's why I just use my OneBlade. Not a close shave, more like a very close trim, but it's the only way to get something similar to a shave without the irritation issues :P

I find CF Sandalwood smells more like early autum when leafs and branches are already on the forest floor and decompose for like 2 or 3 weeks. The essential oils they use are simply amazing. I think that Castle Forbes is the best shave cream you can buy/use. My favourite is their 1445, a green grassy fougere type scent. Absolutely spectacular. Great video and shave Ken, as always. During lockdown/quarantine watching you is a real treat.

I must admit that "shaving" can be a chore. Have been using disposable blades over the years and more recently (past 5 years or so) began using an electric razor. I woke up one day and at 74 decided to begin wet shaving again. My first wet shaves began when I was in the military in the med 1960's. Intrigued by the myriad choices available in razors, blades, creams, soaps etc., I thought I should take a tour of the internet for some advice. Of the numerous channels out there, I found yours to be the most helpful and friendly. I have decided to begin my foray into wet shaving with the following accoutrements; Merkur 34C Heavy Duty; Omega Hi-Brush Synthetic Shaving Brush; West Coast Beacon Black Synthetic Shaving Brush; Proraso Shaving Cream Menthol; Ogallala Bay Rum Shaving Soap; Sampler Blade Pack and several other related treats. I can see already how a daily "chore" can quickly become a "hobby and passion". If ever I lose the passion for wet shaving, I will return to your site. What do you think about my choices for a "new" beginner to the wet shaving world? P.S. - Where did you go to college to earn your engineering degree? I have tried numerous times to see if I could identify your alma mater from what appears to be your graduation ring, but to no avail.

Another great shave Ken, thank you. I have the Merkur Futur in Chrome and Gold, and it really is a cracking razor once mastered. I have suffered the same problem as you with the head in the past. The head can go on either way around, there is no alignment marking - but just ensure that it 'clicks' into place before you proceed. All the best.

I've had both shots, and the worst I got was a sore arm. I'm not sure what caused your parents issues, or if you're being truthful, but there's no widespread problem with the vaccines that should cause anyone to hesitate.

The feedback sound on the Futur is awesome. I love mine. It was one of my first razors. As for the cap, it doesn’t matter what way you put it on, you may have just not pressed evenly when placing the cap that first time. Happens to me too sometimes. I really don’t know how people like PaulH shave with that razor on setting 6. Great shave Ken!

That's what I use, a gold Merkur Futur with Merkur Super blades. The razor still looks like new, clean it after I use it. Does a great job!

Great shave. I have the polished chrome version for a few years now, still cuts me at lower settings lol. At the higher settings I found this razor to be absolutely one of the most aggressive razors out there

Thanks for your shave today. I did have the futur copy, but gave it away as it was just too aggressive for me. I suspect I would have to use the futur on setting 1 or 2 all the time! I had my first covid vaccination on Saturday and will recieve a second in 3 months. I had flu-like symptoms on Sunday but was fully recovered by Monday. Keep safe, and catch you on the next one.

Love your videos, Ken...Great shaves! Just started wet shaving -- thanks to you with the Merkur 34G. Sensitive skin here, and I switched from Schick Hydro 5 because I just couldn't take the insane cost of those cartridges. Congrats on the vaccine...just got my second Pfizer last Sunday. Just a little lethargic after 24 hours then right as rain.

I had a Merkur Vision as my first razor and put a Feather blade in it. Not a sensible thing to do on account of the blood! Moved back to cartridges until I discovered your channel and tried again with a Muhle R89. I had my vaccine 2 weeks ago, next day had aching legs and tiredness for 10 hours then fine. Thanks for all your advice and reviews.

I have the gold Futur in my line up. I can’t honestly say it’s one of my favorites. I really enjoy the old tried and trues- DE89, 34G and recently, the King C Gillette! I would put the Futur in a category with my Muhle R41. I just DON’T need such aggressive razors for a really good, close, comfortable shave but understand others might... cheers Bud!

HI Ken, always love your vids.My last purchase was the 34 g"old". I have the gold merkur and love it. We always want something better or a new toy. for the readers i have sensitive skin. the 34 G is tame compared to my Mercur gold. i love the sound of the feedback on whisker. it reminds me to slow down "grasshopper". Light touch, patience it is just an absolute fine shave! Just my 2 cents. P.s. been bearded since March.....skin will probably revolt when I pull out my merkur!!! LOL

I do find it a little annoying when the adhesive is on the razors edge, so I tend to run hot water over them at an angle until it comes off. But silver blues felt harsh to me at first, but was most likely my technique in the beginning. These days i don’t mind them, depends on the razor. I’ve had my eye on those two soaps!!! Can’t wait for the videos!! Perhaps a comparison to diver down later on down the line?

What i started noticing when i get nicks, its the blades with the wax on the blades to hold it in the paper. The wax on the blade makes the blade (wavy) when installed in the razor. (Not a flat surface.)

Don't worry about the top cap positioning, it can go both ways. You just didn't snap it all the way in. Try it and you'll see.

Nice shave Ken. Really enjoyed my recent razor purchase the Merkur Progress 500. Hopefully will be my last. I really would like a Timeless and recently heard Muhle is making a R41 in stainless steel. Oh and PAAs double open combs really got my interest. The rabbit hole never ends mind you I get excellent shaves from the razors I already have even my Weishi.

Great shave. My mom told me that the vaccine she received was the Pfizer one, and she’s not showing or complaining of the side effects from it. I finally got my first vintage razor as I bought the Gillette Travel Tech at an antique store. I cleaned and sanitized it for shave use, and I can’t wait to pull it out for a shave in the future

I’ve just received the gold futur today , tried it on setting two with gillete nacet blades no razor burn not cuts no irritations give me a bbs with just one pass flying like butter on my skin very surprised kensurfs, just don’t mind negative reviews about aggressiveness of this babe people, just buy it and see the function and 😳😳 surprised, wowwwww unbelievable

I notice I get tagged a few times on my Gillette Slim, though it's not even on the gap(one side is a little more gap than the other). I probably need to have it tuned up so it can shave properly. It works as is, just not too comfortably.

If you like lime soaps, I think it's Castle Forbes' best. I do like the Silver Blue blades, I've heard the Futur is aggressive, so it may be that way round. :)

I had the full finish first because the polished and hold were cold out. This one looks pretty cool. I had trouble a few years ago shaving under the nose but this time it was ok👍👍

Glue spots are very annoying. Also, for us older fellas going color blind, we have a difficult time removing the wrap from the Gillette WS blades as the writing camouflages the folds of the wrapper. Very frustrating, wish the blades companies would consider that.

Nice shave Ken💈💈 The Futur is too blade forward for me, but each his own right. I could never get a comfortable shave with it so passed it on. The blades however work good in the right razor, usually used in a milder razor on my end. Castle Forbes is a great product IMO, expensive but results are nice. My Merkur Futur lasted only 2 years of use before the plating on the head started to rub off. (Underneath is zamac, so it's pretty much doomed.) I bought a stainless steel DE to replace it.

Hi Ken! Castle Forbes is produced by my Clan Chieftain, Lord Forbes. I buy my products directly from him at the castle in Keig...lovely place for sure. I find this soap works best with a large synthetic brush. My favorite scents are the Lime and 1445; just stunning. Post shave on this soap/cream is superior. I watch your videos, but being lazy as to commenting. Must be age related, huh? Have you seen the new Ford Mustang Mach 1? I think better than the GT350...maybe even better than the GT350R. Good you got the vaccine. Made me feel hungry and tired for about 3 days. Take care.

Got my first dose of the Moderna vaccine yesterday. I was surprised when I was told that I could get vaccinated but from what I read California is now in the third phase of vaccine distribution and us government employees are some of the people who are supposed to receive it in that round.

I know this is a newbi question. I was looking at the instructions for my Simpsons shaving brush and it says go side to side and not in a circle. Is that why you didn't use a bowl?

The instructions are there to help protect the brush (in particular when new). It's ok to splay the bristles a little whilst bowl lathering or face lathering as long as you don't mash the bristles right down to the handle which can break the "backbone" of the brush and lead to reduced life of the brush. They dont xall that razor the "potato peeler" for nothing! I have the brushed finish model. Was my second razor but it scares the bejesus out of me. I usually keep it set to 1 or 0. Not a fave of mine. And yes, it is Rich Hansen's favorite.

My guess is that vaccisnation stations are covered by the same patient privacy laws as a doctor's office/waiting room or a clinic/hospital, where you probably need a signed permission from everyone in the picture. Ehich would slow things down. So I get the camera ban.
