I've had this watch for over two years now without any problems. Of my 30 watch collection this one surprisingly gets a lot of wrist time. It's comfortable, solid, very legible and pretty versatile.

They seem to make beautiful watches for great prices. The specs just aren’t quite there for me though. But then again, not everyone is looking for those specs. Which is what makes this hobby so great. Everyone has a different view of what is a great watch. Thanks for the great review.

2:58 you can notice a typical problem of Tongji movements with subdial at 6 'o clock. When the watch is positioned vertically, the hand suddenly "falls" under its own weight by 2 seconds, when it is around 10-15 seconds. This is caused by the big and inaccurate play between the small seconds gears (it should also be considered that the small seconds are indirect - the Tongji was born as a central seconds movement). Unfortunately it happens on all movements of this type, I have three T-Winner watches (ultra-low end watches, 15 euro shipped on Aliexpress) and they have the same problem, which can be alleviated by using quite thick grease between the two gears.

Excellent review of a very good watch. I bought one two or three years ago and although it doesn't get that much wrist time, I always enjoy it. I have the conventional case version with that dial and my only criticism is that the second hand in the sub dial is a bit short unlike the version you were reviewing.

My non small seconds version is for sale on ebay atm if someone wanted to pay a bit less, it's a great watch, the case is just fantastically wrist hugging. I'm after the Hamilton version, a little smaller but I love that textured dial.

Good review 👍. I think it may be a mineral crystal, my one isn't acrylic, but I agree, sapphire would be great. It is a shame that there isn't a more trusted movement for them to use, but at least the price reflects this choice. The case design is the highlight for me, the size and curve is nicer than the originals from CWC and Hamilton.

At least it would be nice if they used a known movement, let's say from Seagull, so if it stops working we could change it with a new one.

@@vasilis_k_97 I completely agree. I bought the centre seconds version of this watch and the movement packed up after three months. I ended up fitting a vh31 quartz instead.

I have the same watch with the more traditional case for some months now. It works nice so far with 0.2ms beat error and +2s/day. I absolutely love the way it looks. Hopefully the movement will keep up those ratings.

Merkur do even value better midcentury dress watches on leather or BOR bracelet for well under $200 aud. Though I'd say it's the same handwound movement.
