Holiday Inn, Eau claire, wis. 1971. I was a huge fan of Merle Haggard at the time and had I think every record he put out up to that time. Merle was doing a show in town and staying at the Holiday Inn. I was closing the bar and ringing out the till, when I noticed a very familiar figure walking through the dining room. Excitedly, I approached him and said, 'Mr. Haggard'. With that he turned around and said he was looking for his room but had gotten turned around. I told him there was no one in the bar, and I would be proud to buy him a drink. "I could sure use one," he replied. With that we went into the dim lit bar, I poured him a triple shot of Crown Royal, and we had a great conversation for about a half hour. One of the highlights of my life!
Mr. Merle Haggard is the best country singer of all time. His voice melted my heart..❤️ Do you all know that he was born April 6th 1937 and passed April 6th 2016. Not many can come in and go out on the same date.. Love you Mr. Merle Haggard ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Country music of the 50s, 60s and 70s was spectacular and breathtaking. It was like a mountain range, beautiful and captivating. Without doubt Merle Haggard was the biggest of that mountain range, absolutely the greatest!
Im just dabbling in country music and I'm really digging Merle haggard, Johnny paycheck, willie nelson, and now I feel like a kid in a candy store hearing hits after hits and I do like the older 70-90's country, definitely can feel the music gotta check a concert next.
The first song I heard was White Sport Coat by Marty Robbins in 1957, the first song I learned was Cold Cold Heart in about 1963, and in 1968 I heard Merle Haggard and I realized country music was adult entertainment not bubble gum like today.
When you’re George Jones’ favorite singer since Hank Sr., you’ve done something right. I’m more astounded by The Hag’s greatness each time I listen to him.
God I love me some Merle!!! True Legend!! RIP!I play your music often Merle you will never be forgotten! So glad I have so many of your songs and all the good ole songs of others like Jones, Vern Gosdin Marty Robins Hank Williams and Jim Reeves just to name a few!! I am thankful I can listen to you all still. They have ruined country music today and these so called pop country singers will never be legends. When there gone I won’t remember their names!! Your living on Merle and God Bless! Maybe I will see you again one day!❤️
