Chief of Police Konstantinos Nuses said on Friday that the department transitioned from Ford to Dodge in 2022 after not being able to acquire vehicles due to the impact of the pandemic and ongoing supply chain issues.
It was killing their CAFE with those big, thirsty engines. Big rear-wheel drive cars were on a long sales decline, being replaced by SUVs and smaller vehicles.
@@landonriley9226 Unlikely Ford can bring them back cheap enough to make a profit, with the last dies and tooling sold or scrapped. Ford would also have to recreate the production lines and everything else to start making them again; not likely to happen.
In my opinion: the oil cooler should have been aluminum OR a high grade plastic (such as ABS grade plastic) from the factory, not (what was probably installed/used) cheep plastic that * *MIGHT* * (Emphasis on might) work on the regular model; since this is the police model (Dodge calls them “PURSUIT”; GM & Ford call the police model something independently different), the standards are higher.
@@ScottRothsroth0616 If we're talking about the combination oil cooler/oil filter housing, those fail wholesale in the civilian market. I had to do one on a 2014 Grand Caravan for a relative and if I never see the inside of a 3.6L Pentastar engine, I'll be a happy man. LOL. It wasn't a hard job, just very, very annoying and a lot had to come apart. I don't think the new part is much better and I don't think the aftermarket part "solves" the problem either.
I work for a city police department in southern California. I service all the Patrol vehicles there. The department picked up two of these durangos. After 2 months of them being on the road. The first one over heated with engine failure during a Pursuit. The 2nd one, last week over heated and stalled while idling on scene dumping coolant all over the street. Idk what's going on over at dodge but they need to get it together.
I thought the same but the Hemis got Camshaft issues that'll ruin your motor as well, it's all junk anymore & Stellantis is putting the last nails in the Coffin for Dodge.@@P2Feener305l
Stellantis: Let’s get rid of the Charger. Why? Stellantis: Because it’s a reliable vehicle that has been proven to work for countless years. That’s why. Because logic.
@@tehsnipatres208 let’s offer a police package Dodge Hornet instead, with a twin turbo 1.3 liter 3 cylinder made out of a solid chunk of recycled plastic and paper mache.
Dorman makes an aluminum replacement oil cooler. It's just like the oil coolers used in Mercedes. All aluminum and a thick plate separating the coolant and oil.
Get the upgraded Dorman brand cooler. Stop wasting time and money at the dealer. Dodge doesn’t need to work on a fix, they need to install the Dorman cooler.
Getting rid of the Charger & Challenger will be Stellantis’s downfall. Watch. Why you’d stop production of the Charger Pursuit when it has worked for years is beyond me. The Charger & Challenger were both a big money maker for them.
Fords are the same $hit junk won’t get out of their own way parts flying off the vehicle going down the interstate and in the car wash, junk!!! Durango is for sure the best option for all around police pursuit vehicle hands down. Looks, comfort, speed, room, dependability. Durango ALL the way if I’m rolling around in a mobile office 10 to 12 hours a day it’s gonna be a Durango or a Tahoe! Oh and yes Tahoe / GM LS motors!! Same $hit, cam eating engines!! Anyone who has one knows it!! That’s the plan y’all build a vehicle to sell America that last until the warranty is up then force them to buy a new one!!! Wake up America!
We own a durango RT. Absolutely love the thing, handling, power and overall ride. But the dealership support for warranty work is freaking horrendously bad!
@@tteotyep8412 I figured it was around the front of the radiator like Normal but I didn't know till I was stopped at a stop sign & heard a Pop & opened the door to check out under the hood & stepped in 2 qts of oil that leaked out all over the transmission!
Am I mistaken or did they order Durangos with the V-6 as pursuit vehicles? All the Durango pursuits I’ve seen have been the Hemi and they all have aluminum oil coolers!
It won't take long for word to get around Police and Fleet Agencies that Dodge Vehicles are failing and it will probably snowball into other sales as well. Stellantis will lose a huge amount of business as they well deserve to. If Fleets won't buy them because they are flawed why should a Consumer even consider one? At this point I've heard so many negative things about Stellantis I would be surprised to see them still even selling vehicles in the U.S. several years from now.
THE SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE OIL COOLER WITH THE ALUMINUM REPLACEMENT...and what can cause early oil cooler failure is in the process of oil changes.....yes oil changes..the oil filter is part of the oil cooler......and over torque specs when replacing the old filter causes the seals under the unit to leak. Oil....onto the lower valley of the engine under the lower intake..which can cause some antifreeze to leak sometimes also. I have replaced a few of these....it's not a big deal......just replace the plastic oil cooler with the aluminum replacement
They are not unsafe, this is yet another example of idiot administration. Other agencies will absolutely buy these vehicles they are awesome GM and FORD have the exact same issues even worse. I have rolled around for 10to12 hours in all of them and Durango is without a doubt the best option.
Stellantis should’ve kept the *Dodge Magnum* wagon in production to replace the *Charger.* It’s roomier for all their gear in the rear like an SUV but more maneuverable and aerodynamic bring closer to the ground. Great for a k9 officer as well. Give it both a V6 & V8 option for those high speed pursuits. The
If it ain't broke don't fix it. Police Departments have stayed with Ford longer than Dodge dating back to the 70s however Dodge is no longer what they used to be unfortunately and the brand no longer represents what they used to when it came down to Police Interceptors
Really dramatic selling them due to the oil cooler. Replace it with the Dorman metal one and you will be fine. Eco boost explorers have a lot more issues than the Durango's. I have been a master tech for 15 years.
@@ThomasGriffin-zn1rr Yeah I had a BMW 750i a few years ago with the N63 V8 motor. I changed the plastic water pump from a plastic impeller unit to an aluminum impeller. The plastic cooling lines with aluminum ones and installed a lower temperature thermostat. People need to think long term with their cars and not throw them away when one thing goes wrong.
@@IKhanNot I agree, I replaced the plastic thermostat Cover with an aluminum replacement as well while I was replacing the cooler. Had I known then what I do now I would've opted for a low mileage older vehicle without the hassle but I own this one & Upgrade the plastic timing cover as well.
Feedback has been Exemplary... Obviously they won't say the feedback was honestly crap and the vehicle is crap.. It's heavy, horrible to maneuver at higher speeds, terrible in performance and economy, crap drivetrain as we all know it and overall, it's a type of crap vehicle that should never be sold to any law enforcement agency. Just like the front wheel drive explorers.. Who thought that was a good idea? Cops need vehicles FASTER than the public, not faster than a ford focus!
Thise who say go with Ford or Chevy. Bad news for ya, they're having similar issues. It's not just one brand or another. it's across the board. Designed obsolescence. Engineered to fail, so you buy another to replace.
Every fleet built car besides the Exploder is garbage. Even the old Dodge chargers were great. The 08 Dodge Charger and the Vic were like the last official Body on frame design for fleet pursuit vehicles. They could have at least kept the Lincoln Town car or MGM in production. Really sad the state of decline this country has resorted to cheap chinesium.
Been in the repair industry for 26 years and these Chrysler , dodge , jeep engines and transmissions are Crap. Even the Electronics in them are crap. Wipe them with toilet paper and toss it in the trash. Check out the Jeep owner I bought a Lemon Song . Hilarious and true at the same time 🙄🙄🤣🤣
