MERRY CHRISTMAS! Our First Time Watching The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special REACTION (2022) 

The character Cosmo the dog is based on a true event in history. Russia sent a dog in a shuttle in space (don’t ask me what the reason was but it was basically a test). The dog never returned and I don’t think Russia had any intent on bringing the dog back, they were just using the dog as a test. That’s why the character sounds Russian.

So, Cosmo is based on Laika, who was the first animal in space. She was sent into orbit by the Soviet Union, which is why she has a Russian accent.

You gotta watch Footlose (1984) to understand the Kevin Bacon reference about saving a town with dancing. It is a timeless movie.

Everyone basically knew that Mantis was his sister even before this special came out. In Guardians of the Galaxy volume 2, when Ego was explaining Peter how he mated with other beings to get a celestial kid, there was a lady on the projection who looked like one from Mantis' species, which made the fans assume that she was Mantis' mother

Footloose, Tremors, Quicksilver, Flatliners, A Few Good Men, JFK, Hollow Man, Sleepers, Murder In The First, and many dozens of other films. Check out a few.

Sooo many good Kevin Bacon movies!!! An underseen one I always thought he was really good in was Death Sentence... Also, he was great in The Following (tv series), even if it got a little convoluted as it went on... He has so many good random movies though, he was in Footloose, Tremors, and Friday the 13th, all cult classics!

This Groot is actually the son of Groot from the 1st Guardians, and when he saved everybody and died at the end….the little baby sprout Groot that’s grown up to this jacked Groot, is “OG Groot’s” son. Blew my mind when I heard James Gunn say that lol

Technically, you guys watched this out of order, but it doesn't really mess up much except when you watch Thor: Love & Thunder, Thor is still with the Guardians since endgame and Groot hasn't got thick like he is here yet. You could also watch the Hawkeye series for Christmas, but Black Widow comes before that. Kevin Bacon, in addition to being a movie star for decades, he also has a band with his brother, called the Bacon brothers. Cosmo, the dog, is Russian because the soviets launched dogs and other animals into space when they were developing their space program.

I enjoyed this more than Gog3. Just loved the mantis and drax focus. From infinity war: Rocket "how much for the arm?" Bucky "it's not for sale" Rocket " oh I'll get that arm"

Also to take note that it's first time for Mantis and Drax visiting Earth properly taking in a tour while looking for Kevin Bacon. They did appear in Endgame but left after Tony's funeral.

Yall skipped WAY ahead for this one, this is end of Phase 4 material and serves as a lead in to Guardians 3. But great reaction as always, Merry Christmas to yall both. Also if yall want a hilarious Kevin Bacon movie to watch, check out Tremors.

Mantis is so adorable

Merry Christmas guys! 🎄🎁 One of the best Marvel projects and I didn’t expect it to be a Christmas special. I love everything about this movie and now it’s become a staple Christmas movie that I’m going to continue to watch every year. I’ve definitely got the intro Christmas song in my Holiday playlist, and I usually don’t listen to traditional Christmas music unless I have no choice. This one is a brilliant exception though. I kind of suspected that he and mantis where related after she said that he raised her, then Ego revealed that he had mated with millions of different species to try and create powerful offspring. I think I remember seeing a woman that looked identical to Mantis in his magic infused illusion as he was explaining it all. It would be obvious that Peter would be related to all of them because of Ego so it was weird having that headcannon confirmed when I watched this. I think being alone for so many years, and avoiding going back to connect with the blood family he has left ( his Grandfather, if he’s still alive), having a half sister that he’s already accepted as found family is that much more personal and special and I hope that from this point on they will continue to grow that bond between them as much as any other two characters. I’m sure it’s been said, but I think Cosmo is a character that is inspired by a Dog Russia sent into space that died in an unfortunate accident while in space. He lives on through her. Cosmo is definitely going to rise in your rankings of favorite characters in Vol. 3. 😄

He was great in Diner where he played a wild, crazy youth who liked to drink. He was in a fun monster movie called Tremors. Other movies he's in - JFK, A Few Good Men, River Wild, Mystic River, The Woodsman, Stir of Echoes, She's Having A Baby, Criminal Law, Apollo 13, Hollow Man, Flatliners & X-Men: First Class. He also has a cameo in Plains, Trains & Automobiles.

Cosmo (short for cosmonaut, a Russian astronaut) was sent out on an early experimental space launch where she was presumed lost but somehow fell into a wormhole and eventually came into possession by The Collector) This is from the comics

Kevin Bacon is most known for the lead role in the movie Footloose. He also starred in X-Men First Class as the bad guy. As well as The Tremors movies franchise. 😂 The Fonz played by actor Henry Winkler was the leather jacket wearing, motorcycle riding cool guy on ABC's show Happy Days along with Ron Howard (Ritchie Cunningham), Anson Williams (Potsie Webber) and Donnie Most as Ralph Malph. 😂 Rocket isn't interested in body parts per se but he is into prosthetics. Particularly cybernetic prosthetics. Like the inmates prosthetic leg, Bucky's arm and the cybernetic eye he gifted to Thor. 😂

I honestly don't understand how people didn't put it together that Peter and Mantis were siblings! Ego took all his kids when they were young and Mantis says he took her as an orphan when she was in her larval form, he killed Peter's mom so he was also an orphan. I'm guessing he killed all the mothers to prevent anyone from looking for the kids.

The Christmas Special is soooo good. I totally agree about Nebula. She's great now in everything that she's in. She was so funny in this one. :) It was cool to focus on Mantis and Drax for a bit..... they made such a great duo and just went crazy in this one... so funny :) For the Kevin Bacon movies, I'd have to say "A few Good Men" and "Stir of Echoes" are definitely my faves. I definitely definitely recommend these ones if you haven't seen them....just two awesome movies. :) Merry Christmas for you guys and Happy New Year. And the movie overall is emotional but the spoiler besides watching this special in the new saga. This final movie is also not connected to the new story arcs of the multiverse saga

Dog sounds Russian because the character was an homage to the first dog in space. During the space race the Russians didn't want to test their first rockets on live cosmonauts so they sent a dog. Laika was launched in 1957 and orbited the planet. They never bothered bringing her back. Sad story.
